(More customer reviews)I just picked one of these sets up a few days ago at a club store after seeing its price just a couple hundred over the LC-46D65U I've had my eye on for the last year or so. The screen is good. No dead pixels, no blurring issues that I can see, and best of all, no perceptible input lag with my xbox. (this is the feature of the Aquos sets that was my primary interest in them)
Out of the box, the image quality was quite good but in need of tuning. The colors are not oversaturated as with many televisions. The menus are intuitive and easy to use so it took just a few minutes to adjust the temperature to what looks right to me. However, after 3-4 attempts, I still haven't struck the right balance with the gamma, contrast, and brightness. I am a little bit of a nut over these, however, so I wouldn't consider it a fault of the set. Overall, I would say the image quality is excellent.
Sound quality is terrible. I mean, it is embarrassingly bad. I have never heard a TV with worse speakers. And the TV that this is replacing is an Olevia that couldn't play in stereo without major distortion. This set is worse than that. The sound is tinny and shrill. It is about as high in fidelity as the cheap transducer in a laptop computer. There are menu options to adjust the bass and treble up and down, but even with treble cut as far as it'll go and bass set to the max, there is little to no change in the atrocious noise noise this thing puts out. The best I can guess is that the expectation by Sharp's marketing and engineers is that this set was never meant to play its own sound. Graciously, there are audio out jacks on the TV. If you have a home theater set, this is a non-issue. If you don't, be sure to budget in a decent set of powered speakers. The built in audio is simply unusable.
The input/output jacks are plentiful. I count 5 HDMI's, 2 YPbPr's, 2 RCA's, a VGA dsub, an s-video, and a serial port, as well as a stereo 1/8" jack, and as I meantioned, it has the ever-so-necessary audio output jacks, both in RCA and digital form factors. One HDMI port, one RCA input, and a USB service terminal are situated on a side panel, keeping them easily accessible for temporarily installed devices. The rest of the jacks are on the back of the unit, off to one side, with the power jack on the opposite side. It would have been nice to have these closer together and nearer to the center of the chassis. The included power cord is a measly 4 feet. I had to reorganize my runs around my entertainment center to accommodate this. It's not a major issue but it is needlessly annoying. If you don't have a plug immediately behind the set, you're going to need an extension cord.
The remote is neither the best nor the worst I've used. It's an awkward shape and I don't like the positioning of the channel and volume buttons but the buttons have a nice feel and the controls are instant and responsive.
All in all, I would say that it is a good set. The case looks good, the picture is crisp, clear, and fluid, and it's loaded with everything necessary to be the centerpiece of a solid home theater system. The minimal screen lag is great for gamers. The terrible treatment they've given the audio system precludes this set from being a standalone piece, however, and if your interest is in getting the most TV for your money, remember that this is not complete out-of-the box, and the savings it offers over comparable quality displays may well be eaten up in the purchase of a listenable audio rig.

(More customer reviews)My new Sharp Aquos LC52D85U 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV arrived in 4 days, and 3 days early from the Video & Audio Center, in perfect shape. The courier helped me unpack, set up and place this monster on its stand. Great service does not get any better than that. I first plugged in the HDMI connection to my RR HD-DVR and then the power plug, sat down & and struggled to find the HDMI connection I had used in the onscreen menu - there were so many inputs it was trial and error(didn't read the manual, no time!). Finally I landed on input 4 which was the live HDMI connection - the channel was set to a full HD channel and had a Fleetwood Mac concert recorded in 2004 playing in full glorious 1080i. I could see every strand of fly away hair and split ends on Stevie Nicks. Frankly I almost soiled myself because I was not expecting THAT degree of picture quality. I am still getting goosebumps from this beauty. This HDTV is just magnificent. The picture is bright, crisp and free of any banding issues. I can say without a doubt this TV will please even the most finicky of consumers. Tech types can tweak away at the hue and saturation controls to their hearts contect, color temperature, active contrast, fine motion are all customizable. The set even makes 480i HBO broadcasts look almost like HD quality.
I have been reading online reviews and customer experiences for over 3 months on all brands of HDTV's prior to pulling the trigger, and I can assure you that you will not be disappointed with this HDTV. I am reluctant to touch the fine tuning picture controls for fear of messing with the already perfect, gorgeous picture right out of the box! One of the reasons I ruled out other brands such as Samsung was the lack of a matte screen to combat reflective glare, as my living room has two banks of floor to ceiling windows & also with cathedral ceilings, facing south. Thus I was concerned with buying just an expensive mirror. It is so sunny in my viewing area an old CRT set was unwatchable during the brightest morning hours - not so this Sharp HDTV. The anti-reflective surface completely eliminates any bothersome reflections. The viewing angle is just about as advertised, I can stand almost 75 degrees to the side and still can view the screen. Just an amazing set. I liked the way the TV will indicate the screen resolution upon changing to a new channel, I find this to be a nice touch. I really liked that the user can alter the range of the OPC and power saving feature so as to limit the degree that the set will automatically reduce brightness in a dark room.
An aggressive price, & free shipping just clinched it for me; I had already decided on the Sharp. This a just a great HDTV, if you are considering this set at all, just go for it.

(More customer reviews)I have owned the Mitsubishi LaserVue since May 24, 2009. I could not be more satisfied with this TV. Blu-Rays look flawless with natural fluid motion, even with fast paced action scenes. The brightness of the image far surpasses the LCD and LED-LCD competition. Dark scene detail is the best that I have seen. My previous set was an early Samsung DLP. Reviewers have commented on the narrow viewing angle of DLP-type televisions. The viewing angle on the LaserVue is far broader than any DLP television, especially laterally. Even vertically, the viewing angle is better than my old Samsung DLP. My LaserVue sits on a BDI Deploy Max 9640-1, Extra wide Open TV Stand - Gloss Black stand, about 19 inches high. Wii games are playable twelve feet away without problems in viewing. The placement in my family room is on the long wall ( 24 feet ) and an excellent image is viewable from all seating positions. What really separates this TV from the competition, however, is the color rendition. Of the three color settings, "Natural", "Bright", and "Brilliant", I keep the TV mostly on "Natural", and even at this setting, the color is astounding. The "Bright" setting is used only when there is extreme ambient light, such as when there is direct sunlight streaming through the blinds behind the TV. The "Brilliant" setting seems to extrapolate the color into a range broader than originally intended or recorded. The Blu-Ray of the movie WALL-E looks incredible on this setting.
I must make some comments about a very positive experience with Mitsubishi as a company and the customer service that I have received. My first LaserVue did have a defect. The picture would occasionally shift in tone, as if the color temperature had been changed from cool to warm. I contacted my dealer, who in turn contacted Mitsubishi. I received telephone call from both a Mitsubishi customer service representative as well as an engineer from company headquarters in California. My set was replaced within a week and I received follow-up calls ensure that all was ok.
Many people are put off by the price of this television. I purchased the LaserVue and the stand at a very high-end Home theater store in Houston, where far costlier televisions were on display. One evening, near closing time, I was the only customer in the store. Most of the high-end televisions have promotional Blu-Ray DVDs playing to demonstrate the strengths of their products. My salesman allowed me to play these DVDs on the Laservue. It was really no contest. After this exercise, the LaserVue really seemed like a bargain, especially when considering that there should be no degradation of the image in the life of this television.

(More customer reviews)i absolutely love this tv!! its my first HDTV (i couldn't make sense of investing in one while my tv worked fine) then i passed this Samsung at Sam's (it's been out about 6 wks) and had never seen anything like it. this tv really stands apart from others - the clarity and depth is unbelievable! and the blackest black i've ever seen on screen (i'm the last of family and friends to purchase). needless to say, after resisting for a few weeks, i finally ditched the old tv and got this gem.
i've been enjoying it for a little over a week and am still amazed by how stunning it is. not to mention, there's so much it can do! i haven't explored everything... i have the internet hooked up but not my pc. i bought mine at sam's, for 100s less than you can find online. for viewing product demos, visit the samsung site. oh, and it was super easy to set up, i did it on my own and i'm not super techy.
edit: just returned from a trip and after watching the hotel tv every so often, i can't tell you how floored i was when i turned on mine. still stunning, still love it, no regrets after 3 months :)

Samsung UN40B6000 40-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED HDTV Review

(More customer reviews)I originally ordered the Samsung LN40B650 and was fairly certain that I had made a good choice. I don't know why but I starting second guessing my decision, which led me to review the Samsung LED LCD televisions. While the reviews were not extremely glowing, the Samsung UN40B6000 looked like it could better the picture of the CCFL LN40B650 and I canceled the order for CCFL and went with the 6000 series LED television. One of the "cons" of the edge-placed LED televisions is a noted lack of screen uniformity but that is for larger screen sizes and I thought the 40 inch screen would not be as prone to that problem.
Some thoughts and observations:
1. The clear screen is very good - I have 3 windows, and a bright ceiling light; there are no reflection problems. In some of my earlier posted Amazon photos, a window reflection was evident on the screen, but not really noticeable in real-life viewing. I found, however, if I looked for the reflection, I could see it. I reshot the photos in lower light to better illustrate the performance of the UN40b6000. The first photo shows how good the screen image is when viewed directly on; this quality remains solid to 15 - 20 degrees of center. The image does lighten but I disagree that it rapidly deteriorates to poor quality even up to a viewing angle of 45 degrees; it's still a good image.
2. Out of the box the picture is good, but after using the settings recommended by CNET, with some slight personal adjustments, the picture for many Blu Ray pictures are as good as I've seen.
3. Despite the stated mega contrast ratio of 3,000,000:1, the gamma setting needed to be adjusted to at least +2 or +3 (highest) values to keep dark scenes properly contrasted. One interesting fact regarding the off-center viewing is that contrast for dark lit scenes actually improves.
4. The sound is NOT bad; the two UN40B6000 rear/downward firing speakers in custom mode produces respectable sound for a television set. Now, if you want theater-quality surround sound, then this TV is going to fall far short of such expectation, but what set would not? My suggestion is to go into sound mode; select custom, select graphic equalizer (set 100HZ to max; 300HZ to 3/4 range); set SRS Trusurround HD to "On" and give a listen. If you're still not happy, buy a sound bar.
5. The backlit remote is nice for nighttime viewing and is fairly user friendly.
6. The Samsung Blu Ray and UN40B6000 automatically recognize one another which may play a role in the exceptional picture that is produced.
The bottom line is that UN40B6000 produces a very good to excellent picture, and the sound is decent for a television set - is it worth the couple of hundred dollars more than its CCFL counterpart? I cannot say with certainty, but my hunch is that it is. However, where its performance may exceed say the LN40B650 is most likely limited to direct viewing +/- 20 degrees off center. After that the CCFL set may hold an advantage.

Update 9/25: I have read the reviews regarding limited viewing angles, but I have not noticed the dramatic degradation that has been observed by others. For comparison, I have placed 3 images under typical dark viewing conditions (note all camera settings are in static manual mode, no photo editing performed). The series of photos uploaded on Amazon do not come close to the actual picture on the screen in terms of quality, but they do demonstrate relative difference in picture color and contrast as the viewing angle is moved from center - please note photo placement captions. Overall, I am VERY happy with the UN40B6000 performance and have every intention of keeping it. The picture is outstanding when viewed directly, and may diminish with increased viewing angle, but it's more of an excellent to good, than a good to terrible. My wife keeps complaining that the picture is too good - that it's like watching a movie being made instead of viewing a movie - it does not make sense to me either.
UPDATE 1/22/10: In the comment section I was asked the set's height with stand. When I performed the required action by using a metal measuring tape positioned on the right side of the TV, the set went into store demo mode that displayed features of the TV - I needed Samsung technical support to get me out of the stored program. On the plus side - at 23:00, Friday night, I had a technician within minutes. Samsung did not understand why it happened but it did, and they directed me out of the program. FYI, I measured over the front buttons on the right side of the TV and I now believe the metal tape simultaneously contacted two buttons which initiated the store demo program - do not take a measurement in that fashion! If for some reason the store display comes on, from menu, go to "plug and play" and advance to section that has choices "store demo" or "home use" select "home use" to exit the program.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this Samsung after returning a 2010 46" Sony EX500. Sony was always a standard in quality for me, but something has really gone amis in the past few years. The television just lacked the deep black levels and crisp whites that make an impressive picture. That aside, this model Samsung was a downgrade in screen size, but a big increase in quality.
The picture is amazing. Although there are some issues with extremely fast movement, creating "artifacts", the picture quality is superb. The LED back-lighting is new in my household, so we weren't sure what to expect. The blacks are inky, and the brights could sear eyeballs if you turn the brightness to maximum. Compared to the Sony, changing channels is super quick and the remote control feels lighter and has a more intuitive layout. What's interesting to me is that the picture this Samsung produces is much smoother than what I've witnessed on any other TV. Whatever the difference their video-processing provides, I like it. This may sounds strange, but if you stare at this Samsung, versus almost any other maker, you'll be able to recall more of what you saw in the picture. Maybe the picture is easier on your eyes, but in the end it "just works".
Don't expect everything to be perfect though. In extremely fast scenes, the "artifact" issues are noticeable. There is also a screen uniformity issue on my unit where the bottom right and left tend to bloom with light when the screen should be deep black and the LED back-light is on. (Dear Samsung: if you can fix my unit, I'll up my score from FOUR stars to FIVE).
Overall, I would recommend this television for consumers looking for a 3-5 year television investment. 3-D televisions are going to be the next big thing, but if you don't want to spend a fortune paying off 3-D TV makers development costs, this is the TV for you.
