(More customer reviews)I have had this TV for a about 6 weeks. This TV has fantastic color and resolution.
This TV as indeed at "best buy" from a leading consumer magazine. I never considered a JVC
before. My brands were Samsung and Sony. But, after buying this JVC, I have become a big JVC fann.
Everyone who as seen this TV is amazed by the rich colors and excellent resolution.
We use a DirecTV HD box as a source as well as a Panasonic blue-ray player. Both give
perfect colors.
My next project will be to hook this TV up to a Fit-PC2 to create my own, very inexpensive
entertainment center able to play any movie any time.
I do not know what the one negative reviewer was complaining about. You can pay 2x for comparable
TV from Sony or Samsung.
I can't say enough good things about this TV. If you buy it, I am sure you will be happy with it.The only negative is that the styling is "unique" and takes a bit getting used to. The blue
light accents are a bit weird but, when you match it up with the blue lights on the DirectTV HD
DVR then it actually looks spectacular.

(More customer reviews)I just purchased this TV to replace a 56" first generation, HD-ready rear projection TV from Toshiba. It took some convincing to get my better half to agree to replace a working TV - especially since it was already a 1080i set - but now that we have the new set she's as blown away by the picture as I am.
Right out of the box, the picture is stunning. After it's properly set up, it's darned near reference quality.
The set has ample controls that allow you to calibrate the set well beyond the standard controls available on most sets. (I use Digital Video Essentials on Blu-ray to make adjustments... Highly recommended.) The set has inky blacks; vibrant, natural colors; and a razor sharp picture. It makes me want to re-watch all of my Blu-ray disks. Be aware though that when it comes to SDTV, bigger is definitely not better. That's not a knock against this set as SD looks lousy on all big screens. If you're just getting into big screen TVs, make sure you have high-definition sources. Otherwise, you might well be disappointed.
I also appreciate that the set has discrete IR codes for each of the inputs. It's makes the set easy to control with my Logitech Harmony universal remote. I can't comment on the sound though as I run all my audio through a high-end receiver but given the overall quality of the set, I'm surprised that other reviewers have given such low marks.
I did quite a bit of research before buying the set and all of the professional reviews rated the set highly. I'm happy to say that my personal experience has been equally as positive. My only gripe - and it's a minor one - is that the set doesn't support picture-in-picture or picture-outside-picture. Again, I hadn't used that feature on my old set for just about 8 years so that wasn't a deal breaker for me though.
All in all, I would not hesitate to recommend this set to anyone. Especially if you're looking for a big screen but can't afford the high price of a comparably sized plasma or LCD.

Vizio VO370M 37" LCD TV 1080p HDTV Review

(More customer reviews)I'm editing this review on January 12, 2010. I originally gave this TV a 4 star review, although it's very slow on startup. I figured, for the price I could live with that, because the picture quality was good, and I had no other problems with the set.
Well, that's over. I'm glad I haven't discarded the box this TV came in. This morning, it earned itself a return trip to Costco. After a few minutes of use, the picture fades to black! Audio continues, and I've checked that this is not a malfunction of the cable box, but of the TV. The picture returns either (a) on its own after a few minutes, or (b) when I hit the "guide" button on the TV remote. Thank goodness for Costco's reasonable return policies. I certainly got a dud. Slow at startup, I could live with. But not spontaneous "fade to black and then return to life" picture!
I will still consider buying a Vizio, as I've had great performance for more than a year, from another model VIzio LCD HDTV, and it's been a reliable brand for friends of mine for longer than that. But I'm certainly going to continue my habit of not tossing out the box right after buying a big ticket electronic item!

(More customer reviews)Set up my unit on 5/21 which I bought from a brick/mortar store (sorry Amazon!), after researching the hell out of it. My equipment includes a WDTV Media Player (HDMI w/optical out), Nintendo Wii (analog), HD HTPC on the make, and Denon AVR-590(two optical audio inputs and three HDMI inputs).
PROS:
- NO BUZZING! YEAH!!
- Great picture out of the box - will be fine-tuning things later, but early indications are very positive. Several units had more features but PQ suffered. With so many blu-ray players and HTPCs that stream Netflix/Pandora, don't get lured in by feature-laden units that fail to deliver great PQ.
- Media Play - plug in any USB or HD into the unit to watch video, listen to music, and view pictures.
- Input panel is easy to access - swivel base is a real plus.
- The manual states that it can connect to a home network and "can access the Internet through your LAN connection" - this one might be interesting if I could get a third party wireless USB stick to work. So far, no success - I'll report back on this one.
CONS
- No memory card access - will attempt access with a card reader.
- Cannot tell unit to show subtitles only when muted - 7 different versions available, but none of them allow you to read subtitles when it's muted.
- Lack of widgets - I really wanted the web widgets, but wouldn't sacrifice PQ. With the new HD HPTC almost finished and running WMC 7, it will interesting to see if WMC will be enough.
- Sound effects and music sound great through Denon, yet dialogue is sometimes difficult to understand - I suspect that is due to my inability to read the language known as Denon and to configure it accordingly. Audio is being passed through the Denon with a single HMDI connection to the back of the Samsung.
Manufacturers like Sony and Samsung make way too many units. Once you choose a manufacturer or a set of features you cannot live without, eliminate as many inferior units as possible. Then, find where your top 3 prospects are sold and get full demos on each including use of the remote. This was the only way I was able to determine that the 550 would work.
