I work for the Big Screen Store in Fairfax, Virginia. We just received this set. I have been in the industry for over 8 years now and have sold the best that Flat panel has to offer (Pioneer Elite, Sony XBR, etc). When I first un-boxed this set, I immediately adjusted the settings to accommodate the proper levels for our store HD feed. I was very impressed with the color, clarity, and black levels of the image. It was vivid, but still very natural, and skin tones were very good as well. As earlier posts have mentioned, YES the LCD is 64.5" Diagonal, which makes it a 65" TV. There are plenty of inputs available for all types of goodies. Setup is very easy as with all new Sony products, and with input sensing there is no need to cycle through unused inputs on the TV, thus saving time and effort when switching from CABLE/SAT to blu-ray. As with all TV's over 50 inches, DVD's look okay, and not because there is something wrong with the TV, it's just the limits of DVD video quality. You MUST HAVE a blu-ray player to fully take advantage of the set.
I must admit, I was a little concerned when I heard Sony and Samsung had inked a deal with Sharp to produce the 65" panels for them, but I am very impressed. THe Sharp model lacks a good video processor and thus cannot produce the image quality of the Sony or Samsung 65" LCD. Overall I am very impressed with the set.
As with all new Flat Panels, the sound sucks really bad on this TV. Even if you don't want/need surround sound, I strongly suggest a separate sound setup. Whether it's just stereo or surround. All TV's now have only 5-30 watt speakers, and most of them are built on the BACK SIDE of the TV set for aesthetic reasons, which is obviously not conducive to proper listening. I have sat in many training's for Sony, Samsung, etc. All the manufacturers have the same mindset, they don't care about sound, they assume everyone in today's age has at least a separate stereo system. Do you know that headphones run on 5 watts?!!! At 50% plus volume, it's like taking a nice pair of headphones off your head and listening to them at a distance. Do yourself, your ears, and the TV a system a favor and get a sound system!!!!

(More customer reviews)I recently experienced a household loss of our family's 50 inch HDTV we have used for the past 5 years. Our LG 50PX4DR-H was struck by lighting and was put to rest. I paid a hefty price for the LG back 5 years ago and wanted the best features and viewing experience I could get for a reasonable price. Before that, we had the Toshiba widescreen TW20F40 which was a great TV for it's time. My latest quest lead me to the Panasonic TC-P65VT25 which had the best viewing performance I could find. I reviewed the latest high-end models with LCD, LED and Plasma technology from Samsung, Sony, Toshiba, LG, Vizo and Hitachi, nothing but the plasmas were able to effectively display high speed motion without blurring. All has the latest features with widgets and some had a better implementation than others. Many had better physical dimensions with thin panels and beautiful frames, but I typically do not view content on TVs from the side or outside of the viewing area. I chose the Panasonic TC-P65VT25 for it's ability to display vibrant images and effective implementation of web-based accessible content... I was not concern with the 3D functionality, since I have a defect in my right eye which limits my site to peripheral vision. I did not expect that I could enjoy the technology since shutter glasses require viewing the content with both eyes where two images are displayed, one for the right and one for the left. As it turns out and to my surprise, I am able to enjoy the 3D content, just not as well as my family....
Well, the whole intent to submit my review is that the Panasonic TC-P65VT25 was priced to be close to $5K, but went to one of the local electronics retailers who worked a deal with I got it for $2.6K which was a good deal. I had to wait a week, since these TVs were selling like crazy. If you want the best viewing experience with quality design, you can not go wrong with the Panasonic. It's a great HDTV and with a viewing area of 65 inches, your engulfed in a viewing experience that is so close to theater viewing as it comes, but from a much improved visual perspective. Check it out for yourself and you'll see....

(More customer reviews)First, allow me to state that I am a long time Sony user (which is widely considered to make the best in televisions and other electronics). Well, this Mitsubishi HDTV can stand "toe to toe" with the Sony line, and it does it at a much lower price.
This television's High definition picture is awesome, and it's speakers are more than adequate!!! I have DIRECTV which only offers a 1080i signal (this television has an even better 1080p capability), and I am totally amazed with the crisp and clean picture. The picture is great from any angle and close up. You simply have to see it to believe it (especially if you like sports and movies). The cooling fan is extremely quiet too (can't hear it at all).
IMPORTANT - It should be understood that this television is made for a HD signal (720p, 1080i, or 1080p). Due to the overwhelming size of the screen, non HD channels seem blurry, and almost not worth watching. So make sure you spend the extra money for the HD channel packages with your cable or satellite company.
On a side note, this model also comes with an easy set up feature. It's a very nice... you simply plug in your dvd player, satellite receiver, Play Station, Xbox, whatever and it automatically senses it. It will ask you to verify that it is what it thinks it is, and that's it; no special programming or matching remotes. The television is extremely user friendly!
If you plan on watching predominately high definition channels and movies, buy this tv! You won't be disappointed!!!

(More customer reviews)First of all, you won't find a much better TV for the price that has the features this TV has. Out of the box it looked great. I had previously owned a 62" Toshiba DLP and a 60" Sony LCD TV, both of which I returned because I was not satisfied. Despite what others may say, this TV does better than the two TV's I just listed in relation to how regular TV looks. At 65" it does a great job of taking standard television and making it look good. The Toshiba did an okay job, which I attribute to the DLP chip and the Sony LCD was just plain horrible. Compared to the other two, this TV also is superior when it comes to the PIP and video functions. The Sony didn't even come with PIP and the Toshiba would frame the pictures with black bars which made the pictures smaller. This TV uses all of the available space for both pictures and you have options to reformat each picture so that one is larger than the other. Switching between pictures is a breeze.
Now to the reason I only gave it four stars... Out of the box the fan seemed to buzz a little more than the other two TV's I owned. I wouldn't say it's loud, but the buzz can certainly be heard when the volume is low. I looked all over the internet to see if anyone else had experienced the same problem, but coulnd't find any reviews that mention this. It may just be an issue with this particular TV. But then again, I am a picky person and find flaws in many things that some would think are acceptable.
Another problem is also not significant, but it is worth mentioning. I found that if you mute the TV, then turn it off while muted and turn it back on later, the TV will still be muted even though the volume level may be turned up. The first time this happened, I thought it was strange that it stayed muted when I turned it back on. I then tried to turn the volume up and no sound came out. The volume level would increase but you couldn't hear anything. I tried changing the channel, changing the input, checked the cables, and even turned it off and back on but still no sound. I then hit the mute button and finally the sound came back on. This is definately a glitch that some may never notice, but I hope it saves some the frustration I experienced. It does not do the same thing if you hit mute, then try to turn the volume up. It only happens if you mute, turn your TV off and back on, then try to turn the volume up. You must press mute to get the volume back.
Aside from the two pretty insignificant issues, it's a great TV. My brother also just bought the 62" Samsung DLP, which is a great TV as well. After owning and viewing these other brands, I definately think Mitsubishi and Samsung are the best by far. Stay away from Sony and Toshiba. The only reason I took the Mitsubishi over the Samsung was because it was 3" in larger.

I have had this TV now for about 6 months and thought I would provide an update... The "glitches" I mentioned above are really not glitches after all. Regarding the mute issue, that is actually listed as a function in the owners manual. I haven't had any trouble with it since. As for the fan, yes it seems a little loud when you first get it, but surprisingly it gets quieter the more you use it. There must be a burn in period with the fan. Overall, I have had no problems. I have looked at other brands to see if I should have bought something else, but nothing seems to compare. If you use PIP a lot like I do, this has the best format compared to other TV's. This will also outperform any LCD project TV when it comes to standard definition TV due to the DLP and 6 segment color wheel (most other brands only have a 5 segment color wheel). You can't go wrong with this TV!!!

(More customer reviews)We purchased the Sharp Aquos LC65D64U in early February, and have found the picture and everything else about this HDTV nothing short of amazing. We shopped extensively and looked at many other large screen flat panels, and nothing compares to this for the money. (Actually, I don't know how anyone could want a more beautiful picture at any price.)
We used our existing high-end surround sound speaker system (originally purchased several years ago for use with a Sony 60-inch rear projection TV, which was great in its day), but upgraded our old surround sound receiver to a new Yamaha RXV863 receiver to complement the newer digital technology. We have the Sharp mounted on the wall, and use a Playstation 3 for Blu-ray movies and a Cox HDTV cable box with DVR for HDTV reception, recording, and playback. We also have a Wii player connected, and its images also look great with this HDTV.
This Sharp HDTV was delivered via Amazon's standard truck carrier, and arrived on time in perfect condition.
This is one great HDTV. We highly recommend it!

(More customer reviews)Pros: 65" is a great size for my living room, and the picture quality allows you to feel that you're there. A seated newscaster looks the same size as if they were on the other side of a window. The custom pro pic adjustments make any source look great!
Cons: As with all plasmas, the light reflection can be annoying. It is certainly watchable in the daytime with the shades open, but a bit distracting. The THX mode default is "HD Size 2" 100% scan, which introduces some edge noise with some sources (cable)
Summary: I've been waiting for months for the 65 inch V10 to become available. Almost pre-ordered it online several times, but was leary of ordering before it was in stock. Happened into Best Buy on Fri Aug 21 and saw the 58" on display. Asked about the 65" and found out the store had just received one that day and intended to set it up for display the next day. After a short negotiation I had secured this first set for $3899 ($100 off MSRP) and had it delivered free on the following Tuesday. First thing I did after setting it up was to switch the picture setting from Vivid to THX and the picture was amazing. Flipped through a few channels and watched some dark scenes from shows on my DVR that I had been saving just for this purpose. The clarity in low light scenes better than I had imagined. I have played with the custom pro picture settings some, but haven't spent enough time to get it looking better than THX yet. I have enjoyed the Viera Cast features, especially the weather and YouTube. I was watching a movie on cable and started wondering what other movies had the same director. I paused the show, switched to YouTube and looked up the director's name and watched a few clips of him taling about the movie I was watching and a few others he had directed, then went back and watched the rest of the movie. It was nice to be able to do this without having to pull out my laptop. I was also impressed with the picture quality from YouTube, even when I put it on full screen (I don't think most YT videos are prepared to be displayed at 65", but it still looked pretty clear!) I haven't rented a movie from the Amazon download service yet, but I'll have to try it. I can't believe that the picture will equal BluRay though- which reminds me... For some reason it was nearly three days of watching this set before I remembered that I hadn't see a BluRay disk on it. I had been too caught up playing with the settings and Viera Cast and setting up my Harmony report (which is a little tricky to get set up for Viera Cast because I wanted the direction pad to control the DRV when watching cable and to control the TV when using VC, but I figured it out.) Anyway, I finally got around to putting in a BluRay disc and the picture went to a whole other level - like nothing I'd seen before. Going back to Comcast compressed 1080i HD signal after BluRay was like looking through a mist. Now I can't rent BR movies fast enough. I almost want to stop watching my favorite shows on TV and wait for the season to come out on BluRay.
Well, if you're still reading- I love this TV -I want to stop writing now, go close the shades and start watching.

(More customer reviews)I have had this TV for a couple of weeks now. I waited a month from the day I ordered it to the day it finally arrived.
This TV is not heavy and it was easy putting it up on the wall mounted rack. I was pleasantly surprised.
Let me get this straight to anyone who is concerned, the gold bezel is like a faint gloss on the bottom of the TV. Hard to notice. I am not certain why they put that light color on the set, but you have to strain to notice it. When set up on in my theater room, this is not noticeable in any way. Don't worry about it if you are dithering on purchasing this set because of the gold bezel.
The picture is stunning and excellent. It is the best picture I have ever seen on a set. It's got some interesting features, for example the TV has a built in ambient light sensor which ramps the brightness of the picture up and down based on the light surrounding the TV. Turn it off. It dulls the picture quality in darkness. I have found no way to make it useful.
Folks, this TV has two major flaws but there is a work around for the first so bear with me. The second issue, only time will tell.
First, the TV seems like it is designed to be the hub of all of your HDMI components. The folks at Sharp assume that everyone will rush to buy a Sharp AV receiver, Sharp Blu-Ray player, etc. and have them work together with their Aquos Link. They are dreaming.
In my setup, I use a Pioneer AV receiver, a Panasonic Blu-Ray player and a DirecTV DVR, Satellite Receiver. All is HDMI and state of the art.
I wanted to pipe all of my HDMI components through the Pioneer AV Receiver and send an HDMI video signal to the Sharp TV. Works fine except the Sharp TV pops up a message "An Incompatible Audio Signal Has Been Received, etc., etc.".
Folks, I turned off the audio of the TV (selectable from the Sharp Menu), turned off the Aquos Link and I still got the message. Turns out, the TV REQUIRES PCM audio NOT HDMI only!!!! Even if you turn off the speakers on the TV, it still pops this silly message up.
Interestingly, there are only two ways to get this message off the bloody screen. First, you can turn the volume off the Sharp TV down to zero. Voila! The message goes away. The other way is to find a way to disable a pure HDMI audio signal from your AV receiver.
Okay, I found a work around by turning the volume to zero, but you would think that Sharp would be more interested in working with different HDMI components that are not Aquos Link. Nope, they don't. Very disappointing.
There is a second flaw that I do not know if it will fix itself or not. The bloody set "pops" loudly every few minutes or so. It's like the plastic is settling when it heats up. It's a strange noise but seems to be reducing over time. I don't like this problem as I don't have a work around. Time will tell.
Hindsight being 20/20, I think I would get a Sony or Samsung 65 inch LCD knowing what I know now. They are more expensive by 25% or so, but these two issues should not be in a high end TV.

This is an update to my earlier review. One month after ownership.
Couple of things I would like to report. I have downgraded this TV to two stars.
1. The "popping" sound hasn't gone away. It's still popping as often as ever. This is very annoying.
2. I have 4 pixels that have gone bad. They are very noticeable on the screen. they appear as white lights on the screen on a dark background.
3. The screen wants to adjust itself when it thinks it is too bright a picture. Even when I have this feature supposedly turned off. When moving from scene to scene, this "adjustment" is visible and annoying. It distracts you from the movie.
4. One thing I forgot to mention in my earlier review, I attempted to pipe all the HDMI components into the TV (as Sharp seems to think this is the best way), then pipe the sound output to my Pioneer AV receiver via a fiber optic digital (can't output HDMI from the TV). The TV DOES NOT pipe the native sound through from the components. The result was a downgraded sound from the TV to the AV receiver. This is why I decided to keep the AV receiver as my component hub because I wanted to enjoy the surround sound as the sending component (Blu Ray) meant it to be heard.
My observation / advice is: don't buy this set. Sharp needs to work on the end product for a year first. Too many issues. Again, the picture is excellent. No complaints about the picture quality other than the dead pixel issue and goofy auto brightness feature that won't turn off.

More info on the dead pixels. Just had a warranty person from Sharp come by and he found 10 more dead pixels on the screen that are not as bright or noticeable. Hopefully sharp replaces this beast as that totals 14 dead pixels.
As far as the popping sound. I am told I will have to live with it.

Latest update - Sharp replaced the set quickly (they paid shipping both ways). Their shipping company helped take the defective set down and put the replacement set up.
Only one dead pixel on this set. Much better and acceptable.
No popping sound either.
I am much happier with the Sharp now that I replaced the defective set. One thing to remember is that my defective set was one of the first ones out of the new manufacturing plant. This replacement seems to work fine.Thank you.

After researching this purchase for months I was ready to purchase a new Panasonic 65" TC-P65S1 plasma. Then I read Panasonic reviews and blogs regarding black level degradation in less than a thousand hours of use. The problem scared me enough I decided to purchase an LG Plasma instead. Also, since our primary TV is a 50" Pioneer Kuro Elite we didn't feel it necessary to buy another high end model.
I first chose the LG 60PK750...however, we don't need wireless internet connectivity so I decided to save some money and buy the 60PK550. Mostly because of the reviews I read here on Amazon.
The TV was delivered by Amazons white glove delivery on the day they promised... as far as the time they originally promised...they were a little late. We give the delivery service Kudos, they did inform during the day that they would be delayed. Upon arrival I examined the TV closely found the display to be perfect and accept delivery of the TV. We've been watching the set for four days...here is the good the bad and the ugly!
The GOOD: My source is a DISH HD receiver, through an HDMI cable. When I first turned on the TV, like other reviews, the picture was just OK. However, after running the setup Wizard and then tweaking all the colors to taste for another 15 minutes the picture and the colors look very nice. Not as good as our Pioneer Elite...but close. When you factor in the price difference we paid for our Pioneer Elite...let me say you will boast about your picture on this LG Plasma. Once the TV is fully burned in, I'm sure the color rendition and picture clarity should satisfy all but the most discerning purists.

The BAD: I was surprised to find that this TV does not automatically detect the broadcast aspect ratio. My Pioneer plasma has this feature. I also have a 25" Hannspree LCD TV that also adjusts the aspect automatically. A TV in this class should have this feature...especially a Plasma that can still have image retention issues if the black side bars aren't adjusted off the screen to another ratio during viewing.
Another bummer is the remote control. It works well enough. Towards the bottom of the remote, there are four colored buttons. They are referenced in the owner's manual as "Programmable". However there isn't any instruction or another mention of those buttons anywhere in the manual.

Now the UGLY: On day two of ownership I noticed two dead or stuck pixels at the top of the screen. They are violet so I don't know what state they are in...except they are always violet. Today is day four and a third pixel died today... about six inches from the other two! I will be talking to Amazon tomorrow. I really like the TV and think with its picture quality it is a very good value for the money. However, my Pioneer plasma is two years old and doesn't have a single dead pixel. This LG plasma TV is now four days old and already I have three dead pixels.
Amazon customer service handled my dead pixel problem in five minutes. Thank God for Amazon, what incredible service. A replacement LG-60PK550 is on the way.
7-18-2010 Replacement LG Plasma arrived two weeks ago, the screen is perfect. Now with over 100 hours on the set, I finally played with the adjustments... WOW I don't think there is a better deal out there when you consider size and picture quality to dollar ratio. The best price I could find on Sony's least expensive 60" LCD TV was $800 more than this LG 60" Plasma. If you need a big bright clear TV with stellar blacks, true bright colors and at all that at over 600Hz, for less than $1,600... look no further, LG has got that TV!

(More customer reviews)I've spent the last 2 months researching my next television purchase. I'm one of those people that over-researches the pros and cons of any major purchase. I specifically set out at the beginning of my research to purchase a television for my finished basement. Since I can easily control ambient light pretty much any display technology was on the table - Plasma, LCD, LED-LCD, DLP, etc. I love the picture quality of DLP sets but ultimately decided to rule out that technology mainly because of the size (width) and the fact that I would eventually need to replace a bulb. I decided against traditional CCFL LCD displays too despite owning a Sharp Aquos LC46D84U. That essentially left me with LED-LCD and Plasma technology. After going back and forth I finally ended up deciding to go with Plasma. I think ultimately the deciding factors for me were the overall picture quality and cost.
I've been using my TC65S2 for about the last 2 weeks and I'm absolutely floored by the picture quality. I'm actually surprised at how much better the display looks than my Sharp Aquos. Black levels are incredibly detailed, inky-black that leaves my Aquos' display looking like it can only generate gray instead of a true black level. Out of the box the TV came on 'vivid' setting which makes colors impressively "pop" on-screen, however, it somewhat distorts flesh-tones and makes people appear a bit orange. I used my DVE HD Basics calibration disc and calibrated my TC65S2 myself. It's probably not as good as a professional calibration but I feel satisfied enough with the results.
The TV comes with additional pre-settings such as 'Cinema' and 'Game'. I've used both and I'm happy to say that the settings are actually useful. I use a PS3 for both gaming and watching Blu-ray movies. The cinema setting on BD movie playback tones down the overall brightness and gives movies a 'warm' color setting similar to movie theaters. The 'Game' setting is impressive too and maintains a good black level while increasing the overall color levels. I can honestly say that after playing God of War 3 on my Aquos and again on this set, it's like playing a different game. There are many areas in GoW3 that are extremely dark and I'm now noticing details that just weren't there with my Aquos. Everything looks cleaner, more detailed and colors are more accurate.
Aesthetically, Panasonic seems to trail Samsung, Sony and Sharp. While those companies have invested significantly in the looks over everything from their bezel to the remote, Panasonic maintains a cleaner and simpler look. Personally I don't have a problem with the subdued look - I'm more interested in the picture quality than anything else. That said the TV does have a pleasant piano-black glossy finish. That continues with the rather simple wedge-shaped stand that is included. The remote unfortunately leaves something to be desired. Perhaps most importantly it is not back-lit. Simple things like adjusting the volume in a dark room are easy due to the shape of the particular key, however, changing the input for example is not. I believe that the G-2x & VT Panasonic plasmas do offer a better & back-lit remote. After the first week or so I finally had the time to program my Harmony for my new TV and I won't miss the Panasonic remote at all.
The included television speakers are adequate but nothing impressive. Honestly, at 65" I think most folks that purchase a set like this are doing so for a home theater and have surround sound. I used the included speakers for about a day before I switched over to my home theater speakers.
Feature wise the S2 might be called "bare-bones" by some. Personally I was on the fence about getting a G25 or jumping up to the VT (3D) series. Ultimately though I think 2 things swayed me to the S2. First the size; I wanted to create a home theater setting and the G25 tops out at 54". Panasonic does make a 65" VT25 that is full-HD 3D, however, that set is around the $4000 dollar mark. With such limited 3D offerings currently on the market I just couldn't justify the price. Second, the extra bells and whistles in the more expensive sets like the G25 and VT series are nice though I'm not sure how often I'd watch YouTube videos or listen to Pandora radio on my TV. The Netflix integration is probably the best feature, however, I'm already getting that with my PS3. For someone looking for a TV with a great picture and not really interested in peripheral features, the S2 is the way to go!
Lastly, for those not aware Panasonic was recently in a bit of a scandal - at least as far as AV enthusiasts go - with their plasma sets. It seems that after varying degrees of usage Panasonic plasma TVs started losing their deep-black level. There is a lot of discussion on various AV sites about the severity of the issue but as noted by CNET's reviewing editors it does happen and it is an issue with the 2009 and earlier sets. For the S2, Panasonic is using a new Neo-PDP panel and it remains to be seen what will happen. This was an issue that nearly derailed my purchase of this set. However, after reading more into the issue and the fact that the change is gradual - not something that happens overnight - I felt like I could go ahead and make the purchase. I'll follow up in the months to come to this review and make comments as necessary. I'm hoping that with the 2010 sets Panasonic was able to mitigate the problem. Time will tell.
Other information:
- In the box this TV weighs in at 165lbs! The TV alone weighs 123lbs and 137lbs with the included stand. Be sure to have adequate help when setting up this TV! Fortunately Panasonic designed hand grips into the back of the set to make is somewhat less unwieldy.
- I've noticed that when using HDMI directly to my PS3 I can utilize some of the Viera-Link features. For example when I switch my television input to my PS3 it automatically powers on my PS3. Kind of a neat feature that I thought was only compatible with Panasonic products that are Viera-Link enabled.
- This features 3x HDMI inputs and 2x Component inputs. There are additional inputs for composite and SDHC. The S2 series lacks a lot of the additional inputs that you gain with the G2x or VT series like USB, ethernet, RS232C, PC, etc.
- For such a large plasma television, the S2 does not generate as much heat as I expected. Even after recently watching a long movie and then a World Cup soccer match the TV wasn't hot.

UPDATE 7/5/10:
One minor annoyance I just noticed today is that the volume controls are not unique to the input. Not a big deal if you're using a home theater setup as the TV volume wouldn't matter - just something that I noticed will tinkering around with my set.

True, some of the LEDs produce a crisp picture but at 2.5 times the price of a large plasma I could not justify the expense. The Panasonics certainly produce a great picture but are bulky and heavy. I also waffled on the Samsung 63" 7000 or 8000. These are elegant sets and their slim width is especially appealing but I don't think I'd really use 3D (for an extra $700). Perhaps for the next set, in a few years, sans special glasses. After what seemed like endless research and numerous visits to the local electronics stores to compare, I made the jump. I think what ultimately made the decision was Consumer Reports rating it #1, over even the 7000. Well, technically, the winner was the 550, the same TV as the 590 with a couple less features.
The TV was purchased through Amazon from One Call. Some of those reviews (not just on Samsung) had prepared me for the worst: screens cracked during shipping, plasma buzz, and plain duds. And to be once-removed from Amazon added some angst to the process. I am pleased to report that none of my worries were justified. I received my purchase of the Samsung PN63C590 two weeks ago, on time, in one piece, no buzz, no dud.
While not an expert I can certainly appreciate a gorgeous picture when I see it. Out of the box the color was quite good but I tweaked the settings with calibrations easily found on CNet. As the set has `aged' the picture became even better. SD looks about as good as it can, DVDs are very good, streaming Netflix good to very good with HD, over-the-air broadcast excellent, and of course, BluRay terrific. The sound is not bad, becomes great hooked to even a relatively low-end Samsung home theatre system. [It plays nice with the home theatre system as well].
This is my first plasma and as the owner of several, smaller, misc. LCD sets, I was most concerned about screen glare. The LCDs handle bright ambient light well. The new plasma is in a living room that is fairly bright during daylight. Again, that fear proved unfounded; the set compensates for glare. The big advantage of the plasma I would say is a far more realistic picture (even given the orange-tinged excesses of things like CSI Miami). Motion blur is not an issue; loved the passing of Aaron Rodgers.
While I would not normally write a review I know the tendency is for dissatisfied people to express themselves while satisfied ones are not as motivated. Anyway, I don't think you'd go wrong.

(More customer reviews)I've had this TV for 3 days now. I'm not going to go into great detail on the picture quality, because other reviews have commented on how good it is. The purpose of this review is to be a data point for a buzzing set. I have the latest firmware, the ferrite cores installed around the power cord, and the tv is sitting away from the wall. It BUZZES, plain and simple. If you're anywhere in front of the TV itself, it can be heard. If you move your head beyond the bezel of the TV, the buzzing goes away almost 100%. I sit 15 feet away and can clearly hear it during low volume. I'm trying to keep the volume loud enough to drown it out, but during quiet scenes I hear it. It's a very high pitched frequency. My parents cannot hear it (56 years old), but I clearly can (27 years old). My girlfriend can hear it but she says it doesn't bother her. It bothers me, to the point where I am not enjoying the TV.
I contacted ABT (one of the sellers listed here on Amazon) and they simply state "all plasmas buzz." While that is true to an extent, they don't buzz like this model. Both of my brother's have plasmas. One is a 58b550 that doesn't buzz like this, the other is a 60" Pioneer Kuro that doesn't buzz like this. I have a Samsung tech coming out soon, but I'm fairly confident on what will be said, either a) it's a normal sound or b) I'll need a complete new panel. I don't want either. I want to return the set and exchange it for the same model with hopefully a newer build date to see if the issue has been addressed. If not I'll move on to a different TV.
If you aren't able to hear extremely high frequency sounds, then you'll fall in love with this TV. If you can hear it, and you have the TV positioned so you sit in front of it at eye level, it will bother you. If you mount it above eye level so that the bottom of the bezel is above your eyes, you will not hear it.
I really wish this set didn't buzz. It's an awesome TV aside from the horrendous noise it emits. It's sleek, attractive, runs cool in comparison to other plasmas, decent black levels, excellent color reproduction, great video processing, but oh man, the buzzing.
I hope this review helps others to make sure beforehand that they can/can't hear this type of buzzing. Hopefully it will save you the headache that I am currently going through.

I have a Sony 46" XBR3 but have been dying to upgrate to at least a 60". So when I see Samsung has two 65"ers in their 2010 line up (the 6500 and the not-yet-released-at-this-time 8500), I knew that I have to get one of them now.
First a few disclaimers on my purchase decision:
1. I only want to buy a LED LCD from Sony or Samsung--it's a personal thing. No Plasma/regular LCD/projector. So there aren't that many choices
2. Ideally I would have bought a local-dimming LED LCD since it will have the best contrast/dark level. But it's not available for 60"+ and I don't see it in the horizon in the next 18 months.
3. I hang the TV on the wall and only use the TV for display only. So all the other bells and whistles on sound--I don't care and won't review here
4. while 3D can be cool, I think it's over-hyped and doesn't worth another $500-1K for the 8500. I also need the TV now so 6500 it is!
5. This purchase is a "upgrade" to my 46" Sony XBR3, which was a decent top model 3-4 years ago. I also bought a Samsung 46" b650 LCD last year, so some of my comments will inevitably be compared against these TVs.
Pros:
1. Aesthetics. At 1.2" thickness, this unit is super slick, especially if you hang it on the wall--a great visual asset to our family room. Viewing aside, the glossy screen actually makes the unit looks more elegant.
2. Picture quality is not bad, when you can overlook some uniformity issues in bright/solid color scenes (see my cons). No clouding/flash light issues in dark scenes that are common with some LCD TVs. Excellent contrast and in terms of viewing angle; I don't see any significant degradation even past 45 degrees. Cons:
1. There is only 1 big con IMO that makes this a 3.5-star instead of a 5-star The TV has some uniformity issues (vertical bands/lines of a different shades). This is especially blatant if you are watching bright scenes (i.e., watching the World Cup in a sea of grass green or in a DVD player menu when the background is supposed to be one solid color). At first, I thought this is due to a defective TV so I called AMZN for an exchange. (BTW, Kudos to AMZN concierge for the excellent CS.) But the 2nd TV also has the same problem, amid milder that I can probably "live with". I now think the problem is due to the edge-lit LED design as the bands seem to exhibit a pattern and especially obvious in the center (furtherst from the edge). Minus 1 star here!
(Other cons):
1. No wireless adapter included. Samsung, you just lost a potential customer who could potentially give you extra revenue from using the internet apps. Instead, you decided to nickle and dime me on the wireless adapter that probably worths $10 mfg cost (and no way am I buying it for $79-100).
2. For whatever reason, Samsung decides to use a glossy screen on all their LED TVs. My windows are behind the sofa so I see all the glares during daytime viewing. A downgrade from my Sony XBR3 or Samsung B650 which have matte screens. Minus .5 star here!
3. The chrome TV base is very cheesy and ugly. I am glad that I get to remove this for hanging the TV. It was also a pain to remove the base as well. In my Sony XBR3, you can remove the screws and the TV would still sit securely on the stand, so you can take your time to lift the TV and hang it. But the C6500 base is poorly designed that as soon as you remove the screws that secure the base, the TV would fall and have no where to go but up--a challenging task you if only have 2 people for the task.
3. It's impossible to access the I/O panel once you hang the TV (I have a low-profile mount). I don't understand why they don't leave a few extra ports on the side.
4. If I have to be picky, the remote looks cheap. It looks like a remote from a 10 year old VCR, totally not matching the sleek glass bezel of the set. I use an universal Remote so it's not a big issue for me.
5. Finally, this TV, like any other 120Hz or 240Hz TVs out there, has a motion enhancing feature (Motion Plus) that makes a lot of movies become video-like (instead of film), i.e., the soap opera effect. Some people likes it, most don't. Personally I don't but you can easily turn off the feature or I use the custom setting to keep the blurr reduction at 10 while reducing the judder to 4.

(More customer reviews)I decided on this TV because of the terrific price of it offered by Amazon (compared to Crutchfield an Vanns).
The first delivery was a disaster because the panel was cracked in several places. My other 50in 2010 Samsung had the same issue with the first delivery. So be warned that Samsung is not packing these sets well given their thinness. Another bummer was the set is made in Mexico and not Japan or Korea.
However that has been it. The picture quality is superb in 2D with all sources. Even SD looks good. The speakers are not great on the set but are serviceable.
This TV loves HD sources! You will be amazed. There are four HDMI inputs.
TV is very thin with a dark grey bezel (not the 8000 titanium).
I have not tried 3D yet. Waiting for glasses to lower in price and to get a 3D Blu Ray player.
All plasmas buzz to some degree and volume level. My set buzzes when a show is paused (DVR), but can't be heard otherwise. Some buzz so loud others return is (common plasma problem) - it is a crap shoot.
Important notes:
- make sure to update the sets firmware to the latest version (1025+), this will improve the 2D and 3D.
- break in the set by running a variable signal for 25-50 hours (constantly moving images - no ESPN) this will help reduce Burn in problems
- consider updating the set to C8000 model via the service menu, you will get all the 8000 features for free (like Cinema Smooth)

Check avsforum: many users, including myself, are a bit unhappy about what may be called flashlighting, or clouding. What may be an inherent problem with thin, edge-lit LCD's in general (worse as they get larger), the backlight is not of consistent brightness across the entire display. When the screen goes completely black, there is a sort of X pattern on the screen, which is slightly lighter than the rest, across the entire panel. It's only noticeable when fully black, or on credits, as far as I can tell right now. Overall it may be a reasonable tradeoff to have a thin screen, but one any buyer should be aware of up front, especially when they are not inexpensive.
I also don't think the ambient light controls for backlighting work well enough. I have a lot of light in my room during the daytime, and I have to manually adjust the backlight up during the day, and back down at night. Apparently the auto setting is just too limited.
