(More customer reviews)This product is truly an example of "You get what you pay for". I purchased my 2nd Samsung LED TV. The first was 50-Inch and the most recent a smaller 40-Inch. I hung the first 50-Inch Samsung with no problem paying the $125 (Best buy over $200) on line for the Samsung Hanging kit. I thought I would try the $25 off brand kit this time saving some money. After all, the components to hang the LED TV are pretty simple. Well, the TV / wall spacing mounts would not get tight enough to secure the mounts to the TV. The screws provided were to small for the provided anchors. When screwed in they would just continue to spin and not tighten. I should have known better then to expect the same quality for $25. I ended up throwing away the kit and ordering the Samsung kit.

(More customer reviews)My requirement for a television is quite simple: plug it in to the cable box and have it work the first time; then turn on the sports event of the day, e.g. Mets or Yankees, Jets or Giants, etc. The Samsung 46 inch LED TV does that very well. You plug it in, it works.
This TV does more with less. It weighs only about 40 pounds plus another 10 pounds for the stand. Compare that with the older Samsung 950 model of the same size which weighs 70 pounds. The elegant stand allows for easy rotation. The TV is only a little over one inch thick! Power consumption has been measured by reviewers at about 105 watts. The 950 model comes in at 180 watts.
The picture is great. The contrast ratio, rated at 3,000,000 to 1, exceeds that of older LCD TVs. The black areas are dark and the picture has an almost 3D quality. There are four preset picture options. I chose the "normal" setting. The next higher setting, "standard", makes infield grass look almost dayglow. I do not think that there is a need to have any further adjustment done on the picture. However, there is an automatic dimming of the overall brightness for dark scenes. For instance, when the credits of a movie run against a black background the lettering becomes dimmer. This has no effect on sports, but does effect dark movie scenes.
The screen surface does reduce reflections but does not eliminate them entirely. The black frame is shiny and does also reflect some light. Rotating the screen to the best angle helps.
The remote provides choices for four picture size variations. I use "16:9" for the HD format or "wide" to make the non-HD, 4:3, video fill the screen. That loses some of the 4:3 picture at the top and bottom edges, but the picture quality is still good.
The sound also has four preset choices. Although, the internal speakers are not bad, I decided to use my sound system for the audio. The TV has an audio output connection, but the TV remote volume control only allows variation in the sound level for the internal speakers. The audio output stays at a constant level. I got around this by taking the audio from my cable box directly to my sound system and controlling the level with the cable remote. This works.
Although Samsung provides a version of the instruction manual on a USB drive with the TV, I found it easy to download and print a pdf of the manual from the Samsung support center. Having the printed manual is helpful. See my comment for the web address of the support center.
After one month, I still really like this TV. It is great for sports. An added bonus is that my electric bill has actually gone down.
Note: This review was written for the 6000 model. The 7000 model differs from the 6000 model in its I/O capabilities. Recently some people have reported that the 7000 has a better picture. If you do not need the extras, go with the 6000 and save a few dollars.

1st off - there is no buzz on my TV at all. When the set is mute or low I hear nothing at all. People say the sound sucks and even though it's not mind blowing I use the set speaker more than the surround sound system. To me the TV sound is quite fine and no worst or better than any old school TV we use to own. Why do I use the TV speaker so much? Simple. When people are trying to talk in the room, the phone rings, the kids are playing in the room or in bed, etc. the surround sound is often too much. Simply put the TV speakers are quite fine and should satisfy anyone but a audio snob. The TV is very loud once you pass 1/4 of the sound range (#25)...so you will always be able to hear it.
Playstation 3 and BlueRay looks amazing on this TV. With the Playstation 3 the wireless internet was simple to hook up and works without a glitch. It was easier to get running than the Wii internet.
We have comcast cable and the remote controls the TV, cable box and Surround Sound easily. With a standard Comcast remote I can do just about everything you need to do like switch from TV to the Playstation 3, control the Surround Sound, etc. Just push the "TV" button on the Comcast remote and hit the "Info", "Menu" or "TV/VCR" buttons to see what you can do. There are others too, just experiment. This makes switching any setting on the TV simple and with one remote.
As far as glare goes I have the same amount on this TV as my old CRT TV. I do close the shades or curtains at times and it's no big deal.
Ok so I found one thing to complain about - when you hit mute a little icon appears on the TV screen to let you know and it doesn't go away. To solve this I usually just lower the sound to zero. Problem solved.

This is a fantastic HDTV, and the extra features with internet access make it perfect (pandora radio, even youtube). The picture is excellent from any angle, multiple inputs allow connections from any source. One thing that isn't mentioned is that the set will turn itself off after four hours if there's no input, that is set as a default. It was purchased for my elderly mom, and she loves it. Oh, and it's only a couple inches thick, and so protrudes from the wall even less than a picture frame!

(More customer reviews)I have been researching televisions for quite some time now and was originally going to go with a Samsung 4 months ago but when I found the 2009 line would be coming out I figured I'd wait and boy am I glad I did. When I first saw some reviews on Cnet I was a bit concerned, even though they listed the 40B7000 as their top choice they stated some cons regarding the viewing angle and some issues they noticed with the LED's being visible sometimes. This made me decide that I would view the screens in person as opposed to just purchasing on Amazon as I intended to do and really didn't think I needed to see in person. Never the less I'm glad I did because any fear I had was immediately irrelevant once I saw the set in person. Needless to say I saw none of the issues mentioned on Cnet and the set blew me away that I couldn't wait any longer and purchased right then! I have had the set for about 2 weeks and I kick myself every time I turn it on, everything looks just AMAZING!! It is the most beautiful TV I have ever seen. My mother and 2 of my friends who were in the market for TV's came over and all of them are purchasing the same set. I plan on getting the 55'' when I move into my new house! There are so many features I haven't even been able to figure out yet. You will not be disappointed with this product. Thank you Samsung!!!

2. Can be a safe and secure mount if you put some effort (and a few extra dollars) into it.
Cons: 1. Provided plastic wall anchors are not acceptable.
2. Poor instructions.
3. No fancy-pants decorative cover for the part that goes behind your TV.
I highly recommend watching the youtube instructional video for the Samsung version of this wall mount. The instructions included with this kit are not helpful and could even be misleading. The video will show you the proper way to install the mount and show you the primary differences between the Samsung version and the knock off. Here are the obvious differences in order of importance: 1. The drywall anchor in the Samsung version is very sturdy and you will want to buy one to use with the knockoff (or two, depending on whether you can hit a stud or not- you can only hit one stud on a standard wall because the mounting discs go 8 inches apart on the wall). DO NOT use the plastic ones provided with the knockoff. The one you will want to buy is a 3/16" Toggler Snaptoggle rated for over 250 lbs. This mounts the aluminum disc very securely. I got 2 for $4. Also if you are hitting a stud, do not use the wood screw provided as it strips very easily. 2. Samsung version has a rubber grommet that goes around the aluminum disc where it attaches to the wall. It appears to protect the wall paint from the wire. I figure who cares, you are already drilling holes in your wall. 3. Samsung version has decorative "samsung" caps that go over the aluminum discs. You cannot see these once you hang your TV.
Other than those things, my only concern was the plastic that holds the wires in place as a few reviews have mentioned these breaking. Do not over tighten them as there is a gap under the plastic. This gap allows you to knot an extra wire (110lb rated in home depot picture hanging section for $2)around either the main bolt that also holds the plastic pieces into the TV or the smaller screw above it. I used the smaller screw and also needed a 4mm steel washer. Doing this gives you a secure emergency wire that also goes over the aluminum discs in case the plastic pieces fail to securely hold the included wire. I feel confident that with all this, I have saved myself a hundred bucks and have a very securely mounted set (UN40C6400). I hope this helps.

(More customer reviews)Had my Samsung UN55B8000 TV a couple of weeks now. It has more than lived up to the hype. Hooked it up and put on a blu-ray disk. Even the delivery guy's jaw dropped, and he's delivered/set up hundreds of TVs.
TV is only inch and half thick and only weighs 60 pounds or so.
In fact, it is sometimes almost too good. When viewing people on HD you can see every little mole, scar, wrinkle, stray hair, makeup, five o'clock shadow, makeup line, etc. I'm sitting here watching the news and I can clearly see tiny pieces of lint on the guy's black suit. I'm guessing the talking heads of tomorrow are all going to have to have much better complexions.
If you like to tweak your TV this one provides a lot of different controls. There are already some websites that will give you what they consider good tweaks to maximize the pic. You can also look for the B7000 tweaks. Looks pretty darn fantastic right out of the box so if you aren't a techie, don't worry about it.
Sounds..not particularly good or bad, but I don't want TV speakers taking up space anyway. If you are going to spend this kind of money for a TV you should be using your stereo system.
Some reviewers were complaining about the number of inputs. Again, how many is enough. I run my PS3, XBOX360, IPOD, and the Dish box through my Denon and so I only use one HDMI.
You can plug it into the internet. No set-up, just plug it in. First thing it did was download 12 updates to itself. Have no idea what they did but ...didn't cause any problems. It automatically loads up some of Yahoo's widgets. Fun to try but...not something I have really gone back and used much. Also has some built in content...recipes, artwork, etc. that I haven't bothered to look at.
You can plug in USB drives and view content directly off the drive.
I long ago got rid of my roof antenna. I bought a little Turk indoor antenna and plugged that in so I can pop over into over-the-air signals and watch TV. It will automatically search and find the on-air channels. It even downloads some kind of TV guide from the internet for the channels it finds.
I also wanted to see if there was any signal degradation from Dish. I haven't noticed the HD degradation with Dish that I had with Comcast. The way Comcast packed the HD signals you could see a real difference between OTA and the packed pics.
Samsung also provides software which allows you to use your PC as a server. Then you can display your pics, music, etc on the TV. Took a little playing around but was easy compared to some of the others I've tried to use.
I've played games with both my PS3 and the XBOX360. No problems. No pixelating. Did not bother to change TV over to game mode. I haven't fooled around with the 240Hz function. I just leave it on standard.
I'm sure there are other features I haven't tried. With the ability to update itself over the internet I have no doubt they will teach it even more amazing tricks.
I've set up my Harmony 880 Pro to control all my devices including the IPOD. IPOD menu/info will display (through my Denon) on the TV.
All of the above features are great but the main thing is... the picture is just absolutely mind-blowing wonderful.
So, fantastic TV. I am VERY happy with it. Obviously I highly recommend it.
((Now I'm watching Wall-E in HD and it is pretty amazing.))

I have to admit that I was a bit apprehensive about mounting a $3K TV using such minimal hardware, but the materials and construction of the mounting system is very high quality. The ultra slim wall mount takes full advantage of the TV's thin (1.2") design and only adds a half inch when installed. Therefore, the total depth from the wall is less than 2". Awesome! If you're going to wall mount the 6000, 7000, or 8000 series LED TVs, this is the way to go.

It looks great, very slim, clean look. In bright conditions the picture is great and I really don't feel as though this running at 60Hz degrades the quality at all so don't worry about that.
The bad..
Flashlighting - in a dark environment like watching a movie in the dark this set exhibits horrible flashlighting - the light from the leds in the edges leaks onto the screen washing out the picture. Deal breaker so I returned it and got the 6800 which can dim these leds enhancing contrast and eliminating the flashlighting.
Also of note is that the controls on the TV are impossible to make out because they are black/grey on the black bezel.
So if you can find one that doesn't leak light or only watch with the lights on it will work for you, if you want to watch in the dark you should go a different route.

Check avsforum: many users, including myself, are a bit unhappy about what may be called flashlighting, or clouding. What may be an inherent problem with thin, edge-lit LCD's in general (worse as they get larger), the backlight is not of consistent brightness across the entire display. When the screen goes completely black, there is a sort of X pattern on the screen, which is slightly lighter than the rest, across the entire panel. It's only noticeable when fully black, or on credits, as far as I can tell right now. Overall it may be a reasonable tradeoff to have a thin screen, but one any buyer should be aware of up front, especially when they are not inexpensive.
I also don't think the ambient light controls for backlighting work well enough. I have a lot of light in my room during the daytime, and I have to manually adjust the backlight up during the day, and back down at night. Apparently the auto setting is just too limited.

(More customer reviews)I've owned this television for a few weeks now, and I've been putting it through a battery of tests using a variety of different sources and room lighting conditions. To get right to the point, I am returning it -- it will be picked up this week -- and waiting for either the UNC8000 precision dimming edge lit led set, or perhaps either the XBR-HX900 or XBR-LX900 from Sony. The C7000 is a good TV. It compares favorably -- if not signficantly so -- to any of the edge lit led lcd's that Samsung released in 2009. However, it doesn't hold a candle to the UNB8500 that was released late in 2009. It is also outperformed by Vizio's latest (552), the Sony XBR 8, and even LG's LH 90 gives it a run for it's money and outperforms it in a few important areas. Essentially the performance of the C7000 is either matched or exceeded by multiple televisions that cost significantly less. If you are not a videophile and do not concentrate on picture performance in a completely darkened room, I'm sure this television will suit you just fine. However, if you are a videophile and/or picture performance in a completely darkened room and accurate reproduction of theater film viewing is very important to you, this television is not for you. This TV exhibits many of the same problems that plagued Samsung's 2009 series of edge lit led's -- namely, a lot of light shining through from the corners, top and bottom, and sides of the picture while viewing in a darkened room -- and does not perform the way you would hope for a television that costs this much. Samsung did improve upon the fluctuating back light problems of last years edge lit led's. This television does not have a fluctuating back light problem at all. However, I must come back to the issue of light shining through from the edges of the screen. It's a big concern for anybody who wants to reproduce a natural theater experience and view films the way they were meant to be seen. You simply cannot recreate that experience with this television. When you view a film -- or any other content -- in a completely darkened room, it is impossible not to notice the light shining in from the edges. That is a huge problem for a lot of us. I will say that when you are viewing a film in a bright room, this television is an outstanding performer. It is also an excellent performer for viewing sporting events, animated features, and other lively bright content in a brightly lit room. Of course, most of us do not wish to pay $3,300 to only be completely happy with our televisions when we are watching them in a brightly lit room. The light shining in from the edges also creates the potential to create a lot of problems with 3D viewing once we have sufficient 3D content available. Imagine trying to immerse yourself in a 3D viewing experience and not be able to focus on the 3D atmosphere due to the fact that there is light shining into the viewing area. I just don't see it working. It seems that it would be a major obstacle in viewing 3D content. Imagine going to see Avatar in 3D or IMAX 3D and having light shining into all of the edges of the film. There's just no way that it wouldn't distract you and take away from your viewing experience. I foresee this being a huge problem for 3D viewing once we have the content. I will discuss some of the positives of this television because I don't want anyone to think it's a bad television. I would have really given it 2.5 starts out of 5 but Amazon doesn't allow for a half star so I went with 3 because the positives probably do outweigh the negatives on this TV. The color accuracy is what we have all came to expect from Samsung, which is to say it's flawless. The black level is outstanding -- if not up to par with the local dimming led sets such as the 8500 and the XBR8, or the Pioneer Kuro 151 plasma -- and does not have the fluctuating backlight problem. The black level is definitely better than last years edge lit led sets. The video processing and motion resolution is beyond reproach. It appears that this particular feature is probably comparable the 8500, which is the only lcd in history to be able to resolve all 1080 moving lines. It will be interesting to see if this television can do that once the reviews come out and the video processing has been tested. This television handles 24fps content perfectly, and reproduces the proper cadence of film based content. It is definitely a good television, it just has some major flaws, and is outperformed by a few sets that cost over $1,000 less. The potential for 3D viewing problems definitely exists, and Samsung needs to find a way to cure the problem of having light shine in from the edges of the screen.

(More customer reviews)I was searching for a 1080p HDTV to fully appreciate my blu-ray player. My 4-year old 40-inch LCD (Samsung) is 1080i and it now looks dated thanks to newer technology. My new TV must be 1080p, aesthetically gorgeous, preferably LED and preferably 50-inch+ under $2,000. This Samsung UN55C5000 certainly fits the bill. Refresh rate was almost irrelevant since differences in picture quality between 60hz (series 5) and 120hz (series 6) were not convincing enough for me to burn extra dollars. I am not sure how 240hz would compare.
I have had this UN55C5000 for three weeks now. I connected it to a home theater system and Xbox as well as to my media center PC as a secondary monitor. The picture quality is, perhaps as expected, absolutely mesmerizing. It is just so good that my guests often mistake desktop background pictures for real printed drawings. Definitely the best in its class, in my opinion. After playing with the picture settings for a while, I realized the factory default setting was just good enough.
Aesthetically speaking, I couldn't be happier. The design is very slim, clean and simplistic yet elegant. After all, even when turned off, it looks like a piece of art hanging on the wall. Whoever visits my house, the first thing they do is praising the TV. For some people, it takes a few long seconds to realize it is in fact a TV. It is so thin and light, screaming to be attached to the wall. All the hookups are carefully laid out for a clean look.
LED TVs are known to consume less energy. I can tell that my new Samsung produces noticeably less heat than the LCD. I have no comments on sound. I turn off the TV speakers and use my home theater.
The only downside I can think of is its remote controller. It has glowing big buttons (they have backlight) on a strikingly boring shaped body. I think it is designed exclusively for older people with big hands. It looks odd next to the TV aesthetically.
I definitely recommend this Samsung to those looking for a 50+ inch TV. I would say not to settle with something for less.

Caveats:
*Many reviews question sound quality on small TVs. I don't have a problem with it (it's the kitchen) and there are 4 settings to change the clarity. If listening to music, you would notice a lack of bass.
*Had been told you don't need HD on small sets, wouldn't make much difference in picture quality. Not so. Use it in HD, the standard cable feed was terrible. HD is wonderful.
*Many reviews rail about the lack of tilt on small TVs. This one is 90 degrees straight up and that's it.
*Need to watch from directly in front of it. Can't see it clearly from off on the side.
*Didn't realize it comes with picture-in-picture. To get it to work, however, I have to have a dvr recorder installed by my cable company. Will do eventually.

currently have two Plasmas in the household. I am a big fan of their picture quality, black levels, motion handling, and input lag (PS3 games).
Began around three months ago searching for a larger TV, as my 50" plasma just wasn't cutting it for me in terms of size b/c we sit 14' away from the screen. Unfortunately, my built-in entertainment center width was a major constraint. No plasma larger than 50" could fit (the 54" G25 Panasonic was 0.5" too wide!!). I began to look at LEDs as they were built with thinner bezels and could thus squeeze into my entertainment center and still have a diagonal of 55".
I was very concerned with a few items when i purchased this TV:
1. Picture Quality (potential) Problems
a) Flashlighting - read anywhere on Edge-lit LEDs and this is probably the #1 problem that comes up. Please note that with this TV i do NOT watch in complete darkness. Watching in complete darkness tends to exacerbate any flashlighting or clouding problems you may see in an edge-lit set. As for my set, I can definitely see some flashlighting from the corners on letterbox stuff or very dark scenes. I am looking for it though. If I had not read about flashlighting onine I probably would have never noticed. My wife thinks I am crazy. The flashlighting may go away once I get a chance to calibrate the set (I only tinkered with the settings a little) but I think either way I can live with it (and probably will forget about it in a few months)
b) Black Levels - the reason i bought the 6800 instead of the 6500. The 6800 has "Precision Dimming", Samsung's edge-lit workaround to true full array local dimming sets. Did I buy into marketing hype or was the extra money worth the precision dimming? I can't say for sure since I never owned the 6500, but I am happy (but NOT at all wowed) with the black levels of the 6800. I felt my old Plasma black levels were better. 4:3 content or letterbox content sometimes has "glowing" black bars instead of inky blacks. For the most part the black levels are sufficient
The 6800 definitely has better colors and depth to it though. Certain shows look drop dead gorgeous on this TV that i never felt that way with my old TV, most likely due to the color reproduction and brighter display of this LED compared to plasma.
2. Input lag for gaming - I am a HEAVY online FPS gamer (PS3). That's all I do on my PS3. COD, Killzone, etc. you name the FPS and I am playing the online multiplayer, and playing it a LOT. The "twitchier" the better. I've never played games on an LCD/LED TV before and have always read that LCDs/LEDs can have terrible input lag compared to Plasmas. I was extremely worried about how my gaming would be on this LED tv. I think I lost countless hours of sleep over this one, with Black Ops and Killzone 3 on the near horizon ;). Well I am very pleased to say that with Game Mode ON, I do not notice any input lag difference from this LED from my Plasma. Modern Warfare 2 plays very snappy and fast like I am accustomed to. This was a great relief!!! With Game Mode OFF and AMP set to Clear, I could tell a little input lag but it was not anything that would get in the way of any non-FPS/Music games (i.e. any RPG players out there probably would be ok with AMP on). With Game Mode ON I did not notice any abnormal blurring or skipping of the picture...I felt everything about the game playing experience was on par with my old plasma.
3. Motion Handling - read online about the Samsung LEDs and you will find many people complaining about skipping/stuttering in the picture w/ this year's version of AMP. I wont get into all the details since if you are considering this TV you probably have already read some complaints online. Watched hours of football this weekend and all the plays and scrolling ticker I could not see any skipping or stuttering. I have AMP set to "Clear". For movies, I have AMP set to OFF and noticed a handful of times where it skipped a frame. If I had not been looking for it I probably would have not even noticed. Motion gets an A in my book and I don't see any discernable difference from my plasmas. Blu-ray playback on my PS3 @ 24hz looks good! (AMP turned off)
4. Off-Angle Viewing - i didnt think i would have an issue with this, but i surprisingly kind of do. Our kitchen and family room are kind of one huge room (open) so often when we are cooking/cleaning dishes we watch TV too. Granted, the viewing angle from the kitchen is pretty extreme (I'd put it at 20/30 degrees if 0 degrees was directly parallel to TV) but my old plasma (like all plasmas) did not lose any quality from the kitchen. This set washes out pretty badly. We obviously dont watch anything "important" while in the kitchen so i can live with this gripe.
Conclusion:
When you feed this set good material and are sitting directly in front (which for me and my wife would be 95% of the time) the picture is very good in my opinion.
Aside from being 55" (which a huge plus) and being more energy efficient, I am not sure this LED TV can top anything that Plasmas can offer (cheaper, better blacks, better uniformity, same or better PQ, etc). If my entertainment center magically widened by 2"-3" there is no doubt in my mind I would pack up this LED and return it immediately for a Panasonic 54" G25, 54" VT25, or 58" Samsung C7000 plasma. No doubt (and I would save a lot of money too!). But given my constraints and my want for a >50" TV, I am happy with the purchase. As more and more time passes by I am growing more and more fond of the set. It is really good looking and the picture quality most of the time is great. I hope the build quality is good and this set lasts me a while, but just in case I will get an extended warranty as well.

*UPDATE 11/5/10*: TV is still running well (knock on wood ;) ). I just wanted to post my PS3 settings here, just in case it helps anyone. Remember, my PS3 is via HDMI with GAME MODE ON, so any picture processing is turned off by default and can not be turned on (i.e. Auto Motion Plus is turned OFF). These settings are based off settings I've found online plus changes from using the Disney WoW calibration blu-ray.
Mode: Standard (game mode forces standard)

TV is still running great (knock on wood again!). I am still very happy with my purchase.
However, announced at CES just a few days ago was Panasonic's 2011 line up for Plasmas, which includes sleeker bezels and finally plasmas that come in 55" screen size!! I am officially envious...however, not sure if Panasonic made the bezels slim enough to match my entertainment center width. Anyways, I just wanted to let everyone know that Panasonic will have 55" Plasmas for 2011!!

Frequent shopper here on Amazon but I've never bought anything so large or expensive online before. When I got the notice that the TV shipped using CEVA I was kind of worried, since there seems to be a lot of posts online about frustration with CEVA. First tip I kept seeing over and over is to call them right away to schedule a delivery. Very true. I ordered on a Sunday, got shipping confirmation from Amazon on Monday. Monday night CEVA's tracking system was up with the tracking number provided by Amazon. I called them first thing Tuesday morning and set up delivery for Wednesday. Very helpful and nice staff over there at CEVA. Delivery window was 9AM-1PM, however they came well after 1PM. Luckily my wife was home all day, but if I had taken time off to wait for them I would have been pretty upset that they didn't come during the window. No harm done though. My wife said the delivery men were extremely nice. I did not want them to set it up even though they offered to my wife. TV box was in pristine condition. CEVA gets an A from me.
Note to TV shoppers: AVS forums are a great place to look for helpful tips. Wonderful community over there. However...I will advise that you do not spend TOO much time there, as it may make you second-guess any decision you end up making. Every TV has its ups and downs...you just have to pick your poison. In my opinion, plasmas have less "poison" to pick, but that's just me. Order from Amazon and you'll have a nice return window in case you dont like something. Remember, just because someone on the internet likes/dislikes something about a TV says nothing about that same thing will affect you.

The Samsung 32" LED-LCD TV is a great unit, when used within a very limited fashion.
The LCD panel, as best I can I can determine is of the S-PVA variety, which provides good viewing angles, minimal color shift (assuming minimum viewing distance recommendations being followed), and good color gamut reproduction (>85% NTSC). However, this TV has some very serious flaws that make it a poor choice for many of the would-be purchasers that want a new bedroom TV or intend to use this as a computer monitor (as I do).
The first of these flaws is the edge lit LED backlighting. While it makes the image very vibrant (too much so until you calibrate the monitor properly), it also creates a VERY serious backlight bleed problem. On my set, on a screen that is completely black (minus some random area that isn't black - more on this below) I can see very large, very annoying, and very prominent light penetration from the edge mounted LEDs. While virtually unnoticeable in motion image viewing, it is slightly noticeable in static image viewing of moderate contrast, but is glaringly obvious when dark static imagery is displayed, or dark scenes viewed in movies/games. This phenomenon is so prominent that you can tell exactly where the bleed is, even during scenes with motion in them. One would not expect this to be present in a 32" display like it can be in the larger displays that have a larger (and brighter) set of LEDs.
The next problem is input lag. Activating the 120 Hz AutoMotion Plus mode makes playing games or even basic computer use impossible. There is a very distinct and frustratingly long 200ms (millisecond) delay in video image processing. Samsung knew of this ahead of time, which is made very obvious by the fact that the optical digital output has default delay setting of 100ms (the average time delay of the input lag). This unfortunately is only remedied by the activation of the Game Mode setting (Menu -> Plug&Play -> General -> Game Mode). Game Mode disables AutoMotion Plus, and the DNIe processor, leaving you with only basic brightness, contrast, white point balance, and backlight control (it also sets the picture type to Standard). This effectively turns your TV into a glorified basic LED backlit LCD computer monitor with speakers. When Samsung says "picture may be degraded", they mean simply that your TV will act as a barebones computer monitor with only basic functionality - the picture can still be relatively fine tuned via sharpness and the above mentioned controls, but lacks any enhancements from the DNIe processor. Unfortunately, this is the ONLY way you can use the TV as a computer monitor without pulling your hair out. It is also the only way you can play video games also - the input lag makes all but the least time-sensitive RPG type games unacceptably "out of sync" with the user's input. The one bright spot in this mess is that the image is still very clear, very crisp, and surprisingly smooth considering both the size of the display and the 60 Hz refresh rate.
Hinted above, the next problem is a serious flaw in the design of the TV that will be a deal breaker for many video game players. That problem is this: When the TV encounters an ALL BLACK signal, it doesn't just create black pixels within its LCD panel. Instead, it ***deactivates the LEDs themselves***. The LEDs are reactivated once any non-black information is received. This becomes a very apparent problem in games as many have cutscenes, and even live action scenes that fade to black momentarily. This causes the TV to turn its LEDs off completely and reactivate them only once it gets some non-black signal information. Unfortunately, there is a slight (25ms or so) lag when this occurs, and the user can actually miss the beginning of the next scene in a game, as that scene is cut off due to lag time inherent in reactivating the LEDs. This creates a very unnatural look and feel to the use of the TV. While LEDs are nearly instantaneous in their switching, this should not be a feature of the product. Ever. There is a HUGE difference between a backlit black image and a disabling of the LEDs completely. It totally destroys smooth scene transition and continuity. This is one problem Samsung can fix easily with a firmware update that lets the user disable this "undocumented feature".
The last of the flaws for this TV lies in its stand. The first problem with the stand is the visual design. The last thing you would want right under your TV is light being emitted via reflection, causing you to have distractions during viewing, but this stand does just that, as it is a polished aluminum type stand that WILL reflect light from the display. Their previous line's rectangular stand did not have this problem. The stand also has another nagging issue, and that is that it is insufficient for the TV's breadth and weight. Despite the TV being slim and not too heavy compared to conventional C/CCFL backlit LCD monitors, the TV leans forward about 3-5 degrees, even with the stand securely fastened via the five screws tightly. This causes colors near the bottom of the screen to appear washed out (faded about 20% compared to the center of the screen) unless the user(s)' eyes are at a level slightly below the screen's vertical centerline. The stand's lack of a tilt function (and way to lock the stand in place once it's adjusted) is simply unacceptable in this day and age of TV/monitor mounting technology. The "one size fits all" approach of the stand limits how and where you can effectively place this TV if you are unable to mount it to any of the varieties of wall mounts. Even a back-weighted mini-VESA table mount would be preferable to this mount, provided it wasn't polished aluminum.
This TV's LCD panel is bright, crisp, and remarkably clear itself. It would be nice if the panel wasn't glossy, as that does reflect ambient light somewhat, but this isn't a killer flaw like the ones mentioned above. The features that this TV has are very well done for the most part (streamed video format issues aside), and you do get a lot of display capability for this size class.
However, I cannot recommend this TV to anybody that plays games, or intends to do any computer work on it. The backlight flaws are serious, and the backlight bleed especially is horrendous, and makes this TV seem like a first generation product instead of the latest and greatest. This is one of the few Samsung products I've seen that goes below mediocrity and feels like corners were cut left and right on the basics, which gimp the esoteric features of the monitor. Also, the AutoMotion Plus 120 Hz mode actually interferes with the natural motion blur inherent in filmed video, causing a kitchy effect and creating an image that has virtually no depth to it at all and feels like you're watching full motion cardboard.
For the pricetag on this TV (approaching $1230 retail after taxes/recycling fees), one would hope that Samsung would have at least done some QA on the LED backlight before releasing this product. it feels rushed and overpriced considering the glaring flaws in the LED technology used.
Note of clarification: The LCD panel itself is great, and is a vast improvement over previous models. It is the LED *backlight* system that is flawed and needs to be addressed. Also note that "LED" TVs do not use LEDs for pixels. The video image is generated by standard LCD technology, with the LED part being the backlight, replacing the bulky CFL bulbs in previous generations of LCD displays. LED backlight advantages are near instantaneous switching (but not quite instantaneous as noted above), and they do not change colors over the span of their life like CFLs do.
My recommendation for purchasers is to find a Samsung display that uses what is called "Full Array/Local Dimming LED Backlighting". This type of LED backlight is rear mounted instead of edge mounted, and can be dimmed locally, providing exceptionally accurate color rendition with virtually zero backlight bleed. If you are like me and need a 32" TV/Monitor for specific purposes and/or reasons, save yourself some money and frustration and get the LN model instead of the UN model variant. This model's backlight flaws are too great to justify its exorbitant pricetag.
ADDENDUM:
I have found a way to help alleviate some of the backlight bleed and lessen the LEDs' turning off during black scenes. Here are the settings you'll need when using an HDMI connection:
HDMI Black Level: Normal
Shadow Detail: -2 (Default)
Gamma: 0 (Default)
Color Space: Native
Black Tone: Dark (Darker and Darkest work just like HDMI Black Level [Low] and shut down the LEDs) (Default)
Backlight: 14 (Default)
Brightness: Must be greater than 45 (46-100 will work)
With these settings, you will be able to maintain a very good picture quality while drastically lessening the backlight bleed, and lessening the effect of the LED switch-off during black scenes. Samsung's manual, website, and eveywhere else this TV is posted on fails to mention that the HDMI Black Level is the key to the LED turn off. When set to LOW the LEDs will turn off to simulate perfect blackness, which is bad during games. When set to NORMAL, the TV acts like a regular LCD monitor **if the Black Tone is set to OFF**. NOTE: This setting works in conjunction with Black Tone. I actually returned a plasma I had purchased in order to get this TV and I am very glad I did. This TV will require some playing around in the menu settings and the settings of your input source (HD TV cable box and PS3 for me). Once dialed in though, it shines. The previous reviewers are telling the truth about the glossy screen, it will rainbow on you with heavy light coming in from windows or anything else that's bright and pointed at the TV, however if you plan on putting it in a dark room like I did, its extremely nice. I could have gotten the smaller 46" version with the matte screen to eliminate this rainbow glare but this glossy screen gives deeper blacks if used in the right conditions and that is exactly what I wanted. The only down side to this TV besides the reflective screen is the input lag. It's not as great as some other LCD's out there but to be honest I'd rather have this slighter higher input lag while gaming than give up all the other qualities this TV brings to the table. You are going to be hard pressed to find an LCD out right now that does everything as well as this TV, but with better lag. So as long as you're ok with ~50-80 ms input lag in game mode, a screen that is really meant for a darker room, and can take the time to dial in all the settings, this TV is will make you one happy camper.
