(More customer reviews)Ok let me start off by saying this TV is awesome, I bought it as a family gift for Christmas it's in a family room. It makes the room look so much bigger (should state we had a projection screen TV, it was huge) this TV is on the wall and positioned great. Enough about that, lets get down to why people read these reviews. The picture is great i don't have the high definition channels yet but I have a lot of Blu rays and from that aspect I couldn't ask for anything better. The picture is so clear you can see the pores in people's faces. The settings for the TV are good too, usually to get the best picture the TV has to be on vivid (that will burn out the the TV out really quick) that isn't the case here I have the TV on cinema and it's bright enough for me. The sound is OK it's loud but when I watch movies I like to think I'm in the movie, I bought surround sound and that fixed that problem. I buy everything Sony because the Bravia sync works great you don't have to program the remote it's all done for you as long as you hook it up through HDMI. Now the TV has tons of inputs no need to buy an input extender. It has four HDMI one VGA and two component inputs, (all the inputs are on the side of the TV for easy access except the two component inputs are on the back of the TV) which I hate because the TV is on the wall and there isn't anyway to get to them without taking the TV down, but if you don't plan to put the TV on the wall you won't have a problem. All in all the TV is a great buy I would highly recommend purchasing this item, The product is great and the price is very reasonable.
On a related note I would also recommend purchasing a warranty from square trade, The prices beat the store warranty buy at least sixty percent and no shipping your giant TV and waiting two weeks for it to be returned. They come to you and do all repairs in home for all TVs greater that thirty seven inches.

(More customer reviews)I bought this TV at Costco this past weekend, I searched online for reviews before buying the Vizio M420VT model but there was not many reviews on this TV. I took a chance and took one home. So far the TV is working out great. Enjoy the LED edge backlighting technology because it creates a very sharp contrast. I did notice there is a slight lean with the screen towards the floor, so I took the stand off (metal bracket) and added some felt to the front part where the screen goes.
Overall the TV looks good with crisp images.

(More customer reviews)I bought this TV after a lot of research and deliberation. I saw the LN46A540 at Costco and I liked it. But at the same time I realized that this TV didn't have the 120Hz feature. Prior to that I had talked to the sales guys at Circuit City and Best Buy and they had told me that Auto motion plus was really worth spending my money on. So when a friend of mine bought the LN46A650, I borrowed it from him for a few days. I then
went to Costco, bought this TV and put both next to each other in my house and played the same blu-ray movie on both.
Honestly there was no perceptible difference in the picture quality. The blacks on both were almost equally dark and the colors equally rich. In some very fast moving scenes, the judder elimination was slightly noticeable on the 650 but that was only when I viewed the movie from a distance of 4 feet or less.
From a distance of 15 feet (where I normally view it) I didn't notice any difference at all. I concluded that it was not worth spending an additional $800 (Best Buy's price) on the 650.
There are also some things I hate about the 650.
The remote control - The rotating dial sucks. Try navigating through TV menu using it and you'll be as frustrated and furious as I was.
Firmware issue - The 540 did not have the firmware issue that plagues the 650 series. With the 650 it was so frustrating to find that a TV, brand new out of the box was turning itself off at regular intervals. I can't understand why Samsung can't apply the patch even before shipping the TV. The firmware problem has been around for a while now.
I spent $1499 (after the $200 discount) on the 540 from Costco and I'm very happy with it.
The only reason why I gave a 4 star rating is because the sound quality is lousy. But the 650 was no better either. I was getting better sound quality on my $600 32 inch Sharp. Samsung should really do something to improve the sound quality on their 500 and 600 series since they are charging so much for them.

I got this from Costco and had the chance to compare the Toshiba side by side w/ the comparable 46" Sony, Sharp, Vizio & Samsung. The Toshiba & Samsung had the best picture quality & details in the blacks. No contrast ratio spec that I could find, however the darks have more detail than the Sony, Sharp & Vizio. The only difference between the Samsung & Toshiba was that the color on the Samung looked better, but for the price the Toshiba was the way to go. I've had it for 2 weeks and have not had any problems with it. At first I thought the menu screens were a bit basic and inefficient compared to the Sony menus, however after some time it actually is quite intuitive and has convenient shortcuts. I especially like how to switch between inputs, channels through favorites and or the channel history. I am very happy w/ this LCD TV.

The screen starts to go out and you get a ghosting and dark effect for the first half an hour while it is on I would not recommend this TV to any one.

(More customer reviews)First of all, I've done tons of researching before settled with this TV. The brands I've considered are Samsung, Toshiba, Mitsubishi and of course Sony. I'll list the reasons why I end up choosing Sony.
1. Picture quality. This set has a jaw dropping HD picture quality, and its BE2 engine does an excellent job processing non-HD signals. The highly rated Samsung's A650 also has excellent picture quality, but have to compromise with its reflective screen. Why deal with reflections when you can have a non-reflective screen with just as good pictures?
2. Sound quality, this is by far the best sounding LCD TV in the crowd I've been researching for. Most people own a theater sound system, so they think this is a non-issue. I own a theater sound system too, but I only turn it on when watching DVDs or play certain games. It is just not as convenient, and power efficient to have just a single TV running. So sound does matter.
3. TV Guide, nice touch, great for users without a cable box, none of other brands have this feature yet, except maybe Mitsubishi, but not nearly as nice.
4. PIP and P&P, this feature is available even in composite video and S-video, unlike Samsung, its PIP available only in PC, HDMI and Component inputs. Similar models from Toshiba and Mitsubishi don't even have PIP.
5. Good Value. Sony 2008's TV line up has significantly priced lower compare with its previous models. The V series represents the best value in its lineup. The S series is cheaper but lacking BE2 video processing, TV Guide, and P&P(Picture and Picture), just to name a few. Move up in the line up you get W series with 120Hz. 120Hz is really more of a hype than anything else. This set is already equipped with motion flow and 24P True Cinema, 120Hz make little to no difference. It does not seem to justify the extra $300+ premium. If you absolutely want this latest technology, go with the W or Z series.
With all the features you need, and excellent picture quality and sound, you can't possibly go wrong with this Sony set.

I was able to look at this right next to a $1150 Samsung LED unit, and it was only 5-10% less impressive than that TV, except that this one is a LCD! Another great feature was that it has audio outputs. I'd purchased a lesser TV and returned it because the audio wouldn't sync up with the HDMI, so people's lips weren't in sync with the sound of their voice on my surround system. Having audio outs fixed that problem. I could brag on this TV for a while, but the most concise way of saying it is that I don't watch TV much, usually DVD and BluRay, a bit of HD Animal Planet maybe. Haven't justified spending money on a new TV before, but this one was simply too good a deal to pass on, too impressive a picture for the money ($649). When I researched it, they were going for over $1000 just a few months before. From the quality of both the sound and the pictures, I tend to think it was worth that price as well!
Summary: Great deal, first-rate product at a discount price. No regrets!

(More customer reviews)I got this TV a little bit over a month ago and have put in about 100 hours of viewing I would guesstimate. After that time I would say the TV has an incredible picture. Some people said the color variation was a little off but I haven't seen this. I did setup the custom picture setting by using the THX video optimizer included with newer pixar movies and star wars films. This made a big difference in overall picture quality and was very easy to do. The brightness of this display is impressive even when first turned on. The CCFL backlight seems to come to full brightness very quickly and evenly distributes the brightness extremely well. Color representation appears to be dead on with all types of media (cable, blu-ray, dvd, ps3, xbox). The motion plus feature is great when watching sports but can cause some juddering effects while watching non-sport content. The response time for video games is also a plus with no visible judders but this is with game mode turned on. The tv really does have the deepest blacks I have ever seen on a LCD panel, especially one that is not LED backlight. I have options turned on to increase blacks and increase the degree of difference between light and dark areas of the screen. Blu-rays look absolutely stunning and upconverted DVDs look pretty good. I use an external audio system so I can't really comment on the sound of the TV but I would imagine it's on par with other TVs. All in all it is an awesome TV with a very solid build and great looks. The TV has a lot of inputs which is a plus and the TV guide is great (if you would use it). The only other thing I would like is to see the TV with a glossy display to see if the color pops even more. I would definitely recommend this TV but would also recommend taking some time to setup the picture settings and experimenting a bit to see what looks best for the type of content your viewing.

Sony Bravia Z-Series KDL-46Z4100/B 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Black Review

(More customer reviews)I have had a Westinghouse 1080p 42inch monitor for a few years and have really been pleased with it. However, with the new features on the market (120hz, 24p, etc) I was ready to upgrade. I initially ordered a Samsung LN46A550 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV. The picture was actually really good on this set, but the glare on the case was VERY annoying. It also lacked the features I was looking for in a new set, but I tried it out because the price was so good. The glare was too much to put up with, so I sent it back and started to research Sony's since they are one of the few sets on the market that you can still get without a glossy case.
I sure am glad that I found Bravia Z series! WIthout going up to an XBR, the Z series is the way to go. If you look at the specs - most of the high end features offered by the XBR are already in the Z series, so it is a really good value when viewed that way. It makes sense why the Z is not offered in a 52 inch size - it would probably really impact sales of the XBR. What a great looking TV (both the picture and the case). I have been extremely impressed with both the blacks on this LCD as well as the vivid colors it produces. The amount of picture calibration offered on this setup is remarkable - especially compared to my old Westinghouse. I find the 24p mode on Blue Ray disk to be quite impressive - it really adds a whole new level of enjoyment to watching Blue Ray movies. The 120hz mode is also wonderful when watching football. I really cannot say enough good things about this TV - spend the extra money that the Sony brand demands, and you get what you pay for.
Although I did not have the issue with this TV, there is a lot of discussion around the Internet about a sparkle issue that this TV has. Be advised that this was an issue, but Sony has released a firmware update that resolves the problem. I have done the update and everything is running great.
If you are on the fence between this and the Samsung LN46A650 (which is in the same feature class as the Sony), be aware that the Samsung has a very glossy screen - not to mention a sure to be dated red outline on the case. This really kills one of the great features of LCD's! The only Samsung I would even consider against this Sony is the Samsung LN46A550 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV, but it lacks 120hz, 24p, and has that hideous glossy case. It seems to me that there is no viable competitor to the Sony Bravia Z-Series KDL-46Z4100!
Another side note... When my TV was delivered they also picked up the Samsung for return. The delivery guys were telling me that they have to pickup Samsungs EVERY day because people are returning them. He said they have never had to pickup a Sony. This is proved if you look at the used/new link under the Samsung and Sony's - you will see tons of open box Amazon Warehouse Deals on the Samsungs - but none on the Sony's!

Toshiba REGZA Cinema Series 46XV545U 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV Review

(More customer reviews)I decided on the new Toshiba XV545U after extensive research, mainly for the overall design, combination of features and SRT technology.
Delivery Service: I ordered direct from Amazon.com and the TV arrived the day after I placed the order (amazing); the "white glove" service was great - the guys handled it with care and brought it straight into the room where I set it up. Came in perfect condition.
Ease of Set-up: I turned it on right out of the box with the default settings (most settings default to "auto") and the picture is great - the new AutoView feature takes care of most adjustments for you, so it is very simple to get up and going.
Picture Quality: I have the TV hooked to a FiOS HD DVR box and Sony 350 BlueRay player via HDMI, and a Wii via Component Cable. So far, the picture looks fantastic overall. HDTV quality is excellent and BlueRay is awesome as expected. However, SRT is the real differentiator, as standard DTV signals look very good; have not tried a standard DVD yet. SRT does not seem to improve the quality of the Wii picture that much, but it is still good. The 120Hz implementation is also well done, as I do not see any motion blur.
Matte Screen: the screen is a matte surface and does a great job of minimizing glare.
Sound Quality: the sound is better than I expected from the SoundStrip technology - you do not even see the speakers, but the sound is decent (for built-in speakers).
Design: the TV has a nice, rich look - very clean lines with the new double skin thin-line bezel and high-gloss black cabinet.
Overall -- highly recommend this TV!

Easy out-of-the-box setup. As other reviewers mentioned...Turn off light sensor!!! Sony should disable this feature. It really does make the picture quality look really bad. Thanks to previous reviewers for mentioning this. You save me hours of grief.

(More customer reviews)This was my first LCD TV purchase; I bought it after being quite impressed with the picture on the floor model at Best Buy, and nearly blown away by the clarity of the sound coming out of the speakers. (The latter was an important factor for me, because I don't want to invest in a home theater sound system just yet.) After three weeks, it hasn't disappointed at all. HD cable programming looks great, my Xbox 360 (via HDMI cable) looks and plays fantastically, and I'm somehow even getting a decent picture out of my old crappy DVD player. Standard definition cable programming is hit and miss; some channels look a lot better than others, for reasons I'm unsure of, although even the worse ones are certainly not bad enough to stop me from watching and enjoying them too. The sound is indeed amazing; I can turn down the volume to near-minimal levels and still hear everything that's happening on-screen (speech, music, and ambient noises).
I'll note that there are three HDMI inputs, not two as the "Product Details" section above seems to indicate.
Finally, I'll note that the two negative reviews below (as of the time of this posting) deal entirely with Amazon's delivery service; they say nothing substantive about the TV itself, which is a shame, because in my opinion this set is very high quality and (at its price) therefore a very good value.

(More customer reviews)I had been apprehensive about pulling the trigger on an LCD TV for months now waiting for all these promised LED LCD TVs to become available from various manufacturers. With Samsung hitting the market first and disappointing most of us with their outrageous prices and availability with gloss screens only, they were quickly removed from my list of potential purchases. LG then hit the market with their model, which is very impressive, but with a $2400+ price tag, it was still a bit too much for my budget. Then there was Vizio which still hasn't been able to apparently get the bugs out of their LED LCD TVs that were promised in June, then September, and now October. So needless to say they were removed from my list.
This model of Sony hit the shelves roughly around the same time as the Samsung LED TVs. Its specifications were pretty good, and the promise of low wattage similar to the LED LCDs was very attractive. What I wasn't happy with was the fact that this is an 8-bit LCD panel as opposed to the 10-bit panels that the other manufacturer's models used.A local retailer finally had the Sony in their show room, so I could see if the 8 bit panel made a difference, and after spending over an hour comparing its picture detail and clarity to the Samsung and LG models, I could not see anything negative about the Sony. In fact, to my eyes even the contrast differences between the LED models and this ECO series was negligible, and definitely not worth the extra price tag for the LED models. The color was also more natural on the Sony than the Samsung and LG models that were next to it. One of the most noticeable segments they had running was a cooking channel scene where the cook was making some broccoli dish. The broccoli on the other sets was almost fluorescent, but on the Sony it was a perfect medium dark green. I was sold.
Now with the KDL-52VE5 dropping from $2100 to what it is now, I decided I had waited long enough. Since my local retailer could not come close to Amazon's price, I purchased it from Amazon. The set arrived within a week with the free shipping, and I have to say that the shipping company (Pilot) that delivered the set was great. The delivery man was very friendly and helpful. He quickly unpacked the new set, helped me take down my old (325 lb) 36 inch tube TV from its stand, placed the new TV up on the stand, and powered it up to verify that it was working. Great delivery service.
Now that I have the TV at home, I am 100% happy with the purchase so far. I was worried that I would be disappointed with the contrast ratio once I played a movie at night, but I couldn't be happier. A 100,000 to 1 contrast ratio is just fine. I am very picky about how well a television handles black (as well as color), and this set produces blacks even better than the HD CRT set that it is replacing. The color is amazing. Playing any Pixar film with this set in vivid mode will blow your mind (or at least your kid's minds). I haven't had the time to tweak each of the picture settings, but I have to say that right out of the box this thing is amazing. I have simply been switching between standard and vivid depending on what we are watching and I couldn't be happier with just these factory setups.
The sound from this is fine for watching anything that you don't feel like firing up your surround sound receiver for. It is very clear, and has very good range for TV speakers.
I then had to test the power consumption with my kill-a-watt plug in meter. With the set in vivid mode, with the light sensor on in a daylight lit room, the set averages just 145 watts. In a dark room it uses even less, since the sensor automatically turns down the backlight level. Only 145 watts for a 52 inch television with 120 Hz motion correction. I'm impressed!
As far as longevity goes, only time will tell, but since this basically a standard Sony LCD with just a more efficient backlight setup, it should be fine. If things do go wrong in the future, I will make sure to update this review.
Anyway, if you are on a sub $2000 budget and want a great 52-inch TV that won't jack up your electric bill, then this is the one to get (unless you want to wait yet another year).

(More customer reviews)First things first, THEY FIXED THE AUTO-CONTRAST! I have nothing but good things to say about this TV. Do not be fooled by the 1 star ratings. All those 1 star ratings complain about the auto contrast/brightness feature which could not be turned off, but SONY FIXED IT ALREADY in the newer units or a software update via sony.com will add the controls to turn the function off.
With that biggest gripe fixed, this TV has outstanding visual clarity and the color saturation is beautiful. Black levels are excellent on this non glossy screen. You can't go wrong with a Sony and the software update shows they are listening to their customer base. No dead/stuck pixel, great viewing angles, 120hz refresh is great for sports, but in my opinion, not for movies. Excellent TV, I would buy another one of these without hesitation, superior when compared to the other brands that offer the same features. The Bravia V series lives up to the Sony name and quality standards you would expect. Deserves all 5 of the stars it's rated.

(More customer reviews)Love the HD picture quality (PQ) of the Samsung 52B750, but don't watch TV in cave and don't want to deal with all those reflections off a glossy screen? Well, the Sony 52Z5100 is the answer. HD PQ with the Z5100 is excellent with great black levels, but without the "shaving mirror" reflectivity of the screen during dark or black scenes. We were looking at the 52B750, based on reviews and seeing it at UE, but after testing our viewing room at various times of day with a glass picture frame and our "bright screen" LCD notebook, it was obvious that the reflections would drive us crazy over the life of the TV. We have two older HDTVs, both with matte screen and we don't miss the reflective glass screens of the old CRT TVs. The 52Z5100's screen is best described as semi-matte. Un-powered, the screen is reflective though dull. Power it up and there are essentially zero reflections, even with very dark scenes. What ever Sony has done to defeat reflectivity and minimize glare, it works very well.
As to performance, PQ with HD sources (OTA DTV and Dish HD) is as good as it gets, absolutely excellent and easily equal to the Samsung B750 (we viewed the Z5100 side-by-side with the B750 and the XBR9 at UE and couldn't discern any difference in HD PQ). Blacks are excellent and shadow detail is the best I've seen on a TV. No flashlights, clouding, or uneven lighting across the screen. Color realism and saturation are excellent. Viewing angle is average or typical of CCFL LCDs, which is about 45 degrees off center. Not bad and much better than the LED LCDs, which could be important if you plan to show off your new HDTV with a Super Bowl party next February (not everyone can sit right in front of the TV to see great PQ, like they have to with the LED LCDs).
We're just thrilled watching Starz and Cinemax HD movies, prime-time HD drama on the major networks, any live HD broadcasts, and especially any live HD sporting even broadcasts. The WOW factor is back! Can't wait for the NFL season to start. We watched the men's and women's French Open finals via live, OTA, HD DTV, with the Scene setting set to "Sports (MotionFlow on High, 240 Hz) and it was like we were standing behind Roger Federer on the court. BTW, the on-board ATSC digital tuner in the Z5100 is excellent. It is obviously of the latest generation as it is the most sensitive and most stable of any of our DTV tuners, including the Zenith CECBs we bought for our old, remaining CRT TVs. If you buy the 52Z5100, try hooking up an antenna to it and see what you can get. The uncompressed live HD from an OTA antenna is something to behold.
PQ from non-BD DVDs is excellent. Upscaled DVD movies on my Sony 1080p upscaling DVD player look as good as many of the HD movies on the pay HD movie channels. I don't have a BD player yet and with the PQ of my upscaled DVDs, I probably won't get one until the price drops substantially.
PQ from SD sources is a mixed bag. It really depends on the source. Decent 480i stuff comes across excellent, but some older video and movies look pretty bad and the MPEG Filter and CineMotion filter don't do much to help regardless of which setting you use. I'd give this set Average to a little above average on SD PQ. Using the MPEG filter set to Medium or Low improves bad SD video over no filter at all.
I'd rate the on-board sound system as above average for flat panel HDTV sound systems, even though I typically us the sound from my DD7.1 sound system. I don't do games, so I can't comment on that.
As for the internet connectivity, I'm not impressed. I've surfed through most of what is offered and it isn't worth much. A nice universal remote comes with the set. On-screen menu is poorly arranged (not intuitive, not logical, redundant in places).
Overall, I can't see anyone being disappointed if they buy this LCD HDTV and your friends will be impressed as well.

(More customer reviews)I spent over a year researching AND trying out flat panels to find what, in my opinion, is the best deal for a premium LCD HDTV. By "premium" I mean a full HD set, over 40", 1080P display and, very important 120HZ which VIZIO calls "smooth motion". It turned out that the one set that met all my requirements, BEFORE price considerations, was the VIZIO SV470XVTa1 120HZ set. The picture is BLAZINGLY crystal clear, colors are perfect and, VERY IMPORTANT if this is to be the users primary display, is the benefit LCDS enjoy over plasmas...NO GLARE or REFLECTION off the screen! Just check out any LCD vs plasma set on display in most any store..you could comb your hair in front of a plasma and it reflects almost every light in sight. NOT so with LCD. Now here is the BEST PART of this review...you can buy a brand new VIZIO like mine described above for UNDER $1300. In some cases I've seen under $1250. You can not beat VIZIO for the best deal on a premium LCD HDTV...period! (Oh, yes, FOUR HDMI ports also!!!) One more point...VIZIO professes to be "Made in USA!"
