(More customer reviews)I recently bought this tv acouple days ago. I had been wanting a plasma screen television for quite some time, and when I seen the price of this for alittle bit under $2,000 in a local advertisement I had to take a look at it.
When I went there I was quite impressed with it, visually it looked great, the design of the case and the picture quality itself. I asked the sales person alot of question but he didn't really know too much about it so it made me question the integrity of SVA, a brand which I had never heard of at the time.
I went online to try and find some reviews and information about it, but could only find these same reviews below on abunch of other websites, which didn't really help at all since you have 2 people saying they like it, and 1 person that posted twice about how it sucks and not explaining a reason why. After abit more research I read that the picture tube is made from a Samsung picture tube. I heard of this before where other companies like Dell import pieces of plasma screen tvs and construct them in one of their factories to keep the price down.
After visiting the store again, this time with my brother to decide on final purchase, me and him went over all of their plasma tvs and gave them our own bare eye inspection. Both of us thought that the SVA had a great picture quality compared to all of the other plasma screen tvs they had on display, and in alot of cases it looked even better than alot of the tvs on display.
When I bought it, the only thing that was bad was the stand was broken on it (which we recieved another stand) and for being a plasma screen tv and how thin it is, it is very heavy. The other thing is that it has no controls on the tv itself, there is no volume, channel, video select or even a television power on! (Although there is a main power turn on/off) So if your remote control breaks (and you don't have a universal remote programmed for it) it sounds like you'll have to order a new remote.
I read from a different review that someone was having problems with the remote control and that it had a "mind of its own". I haven't came across this problem at all, either that person had a faulty remote control, or was talking nonsense.
But still, like I mentioned before, I have recently bought this plasma tv, I haven't had any problems with it yet, and I had been looking up information about preventing burn-ins since I hear it plagues plasma tv's and I play alot of video games and intend to use it as a pc monitor as well.
Also another nice addition was that included ALL the hook ups you need. I am not sure about the exact amount of cords, but it include acouple of the same ones like 2 a/v cords, 2 normal left/right audio cords, 1 component, 1 s-video, 1 pc cord, 1 pc to component (which is really cool), 1 analog(?) cable, and 1 audio (you know like a head phone jack) to left/right audio cord. I thought that this was very cool since alot of tvs I had bought and other people bought didn't include, or only included maybe 1 or 2 cords.
I gave this a rating of 4 because like I said, I had just recently purchased this tv and still am testing it out. I wrote this review to help people get alittle bit more knowledge about this tv since I couldn't find much help about it online either. My biggest suggestion for anyone interested in this tv is to go to a store and take a look at it and compare it to other plasma tv's, make sure to check for burn ins and everything. When I was checking it out at the store they did not have the audio set up, only the picture cables were hooked up, when I got it home and tested out the audio, I was quite surprised at the quality of it since I heard alot of plasma screens with speakers didn't give good quality. But still I run all my audio through my reciever for surround sound, which the majority of people that purchase plasma tv's do as well, so you wont be worrying much about the audio on this... which I believe by looking at it, it has 4 sets of speakers, I could be wrong... but it did give off some nice sound for when I was testing it out.

(More customer reviews)I am not a very knowledgeable electronic buff - but have been fantasizing about buying a HDTV for a couple of years now.
Since the choices are so many, it was a fun job trying to find out about them - at the same time very confusing. Finally, I did decide on Samsung DLP - the only question was which model I should be going for :-)
The HLP 56" is just about right for my family room -- has a very good viewing angle, has no real issue with room brightness. The quality of standard TV via Satellite depends on the different channels. (I use component cable for Satellite and DVI cable for DVD) Some channels appear better than others. HD programs are fantastic. The default color settings were a bit to greenish for my liking. The TV is lighter compared to my standard 29" TV. The PIP feature is cool. The TV was almost "plug-and-play" - didnt need too much tinkering to get the basic features working (for normal non-electronic buffs who wonder if a HDTV has to be always set-up and tuned by a professional).
I also bought a Samsung Progressive Scan HD 841 DVD player -- a good combo with this TV. (And the good thing is that this comes with the DVI cable in the package)
Some Cons I noticed:
# The remote lacks a backlight feature - since I like watching my DVDs by darkening the room - its frustrating to grope around the buttons.
# There seems to be some humming noice - like a fan rotating when the TV is on mute (or volume very low) - not too noticeable - but present all the same.
# The feature wherein you can change the source or the TV display size make you cycle though ALL the possible choices instead of poviding a "drop-down" ike UI to choose the one you are looking for directly - this becomes fustrating if you are the type who constantly change you TV display and source (between Satellite, Antenna, DVD etc.)
# Very little to no documentation on fine tuning the system available .. what exists is definelty enough to get a nice viewing experience - but if u want more fine grained control - dont bother reading the documentation to find out how.
But all-in-all its a great TV and I hope to enjoy it for a long time !!

I bought this for my bedroom last week and am pretty happy with it. I have a 40" XBR2 in the family room and this model's picture is surprisingly comparable. I bought it through Amazon for MUCH less than BB or Sears. I do have a couple issues that prevent me from giving it five stars: first, it takes quite a long time for the picture to appear when you turn it on and switching inputs takes even longer than my XBR2. The other peave I have is setting the sleep timer; on most TV's there's a dedicated 'Sleep' button on the remote. On the S5100 you have to hit the 'Tools' button on the remote, select 'Clock/Timers', select your sleep time, then press the 'Menu' button to clear the on-screen menu. Wow! All-in-all, neither of those are that big of a deal, but the next issue is the one that's provoking me to call Sony Customer Service. There is a significant amount of noise in the TV's audio output -- especially at low volume. It sounds like the signal is over-modulated, but at higher volume levels it's not as noticable. I haven't tried a set of external speakers to see if the noise is still there, but I have tried component, composite, and HDMI inputs all with the same results. Perhaps I'll update this review with the results of my call to Sony.
UPDATE 5/1: I called Sony about the audio issue; they wanted to send out a technician. I opted to have J&R swap out the TV but the same exact problem exists on the replacement. I guess I'm going to take Sony up on their offer to send someone out. I can't tolerate this problem considering it is our bedroom TV and is often used at low volume levels.
UPDATE 5/19: I just finished packing up the unit to return to J&R, who have been great BTW! The Sony tech acknowledged the problem and said that Sony tech support would probably tell him to replace the digital audio board, but unless the board has been redesigned he didn't think it would resolve the problem. Sony Customer Service refused to help in any way; I asked for a refurbished XBR6 (last year's only 32" 1080p model) to replace this unit, and they said no. I asked for a discount on a new XBR9, and they said no. As the owner of several Sony products, including a 40" XBR2 and a 36" Wega, I am really quite surprised by Sony's unwillingness to help resolve this issue. My brand loyalty has been shaken, and I will think twice before I buy another Sony product. BTW, I'm looking at the Panasonic and Samsung 1080 32" models as a replacement.

(More customer reviews)I had been apprehensive about pulling the trigger on an LCD TV for months now waiting for all these promised LED LCD TVs to become available from various manufacturers. With Samsung hitting the market first and disappointing most of us with their outrageous prices and availability with gloss screens only, they were quickly removed from my list of potential purchases. LG then hit the market with their model, which is very impressive, but with a $2400+ price tag, it was still a bit too much for my budget. Then there was Vizio which still hasn't been able to apparently get the bugs out of their LED LCD TVs that were promised in June, then September, and now October. So needless to say they were removed from my list.
This model of Sony hit the shelves roughly around the same time as the Samsung LED TVs. Its specifications were pretty good, and the promise of low wattage similar to the LED LCDs was very attractive. What I wasn't happy with was the fact that this is an 8-bit LCD panel as opposed to the 10-bit panels that the other manufacturer's models used.A local retailer finally had the Sony in their show room, so I could see if the 8 bit panel made a difference, and after spending over an hour comparing its picture detail and clarity to the Samsung and LG models, I could not see anything negative about the Sony. In fact, to my eyes even the contrast differences between the LED models and this ECO series was negligible, and definitely not worth the extra price tag for the LED models. The color was also more natural on the Sony than the Samsung and LG models that were next to it. One of the most noticeable segments they had running was a cooking channel scene where the cook was making some broccoli dish. The broccoli on the other sets was almost fluorescent, but on the Sony it was a perfect medium dark green. I was sold.
Now with the KDL-52VE5 dropping from $2100 to what it is now, I decided I had waited long enough. Since my local retailer could not come close to Amazon's price, I purchased it from Amazon. The set arrived within a week with the free shipping, and I have to say that the shipping company (Pilot) that delivered the set was great. The delivery man was very friendly and helpful. He quickly unpacked the new set, helped me take down my old (325 lb) 36 inch tube TV from its stand, placed the new TV up on the stand, and powered it up to verify that it was working. Great delivery service.
Now that I have the TV at home, I am 100% happy with the purchase so far. I was worried that I would be disappointed with the contrast ratio once I played a movie at night, but I couldn't be happier. A 100,000 to 1 contrast ratio is just fine. I am very picky about how well a television handles black (as well as color), and this set produces blacks even better than the HD CRT set that it is replacing. The color is amazing. Playing any Pixar film with this set in vivid mode will blow your mind (or at least your kid's minds). I haven't had the time to tweak each of the picture settings, but I have to say that right out of the box this thing is amazing. I have simply been switching between standard and vivid depending on what we are watching and I couldn't be happier with just these factory setups.
The sound from this is fine for watching anything that you don't feel like firing up your surround sound receiver for. It is very clear, and has very good range for TV speakers.
I then had to test the power consumption with my kill-a-watt plug in meter. With the set in vivid mode, with the light sensor on in a daylight lit room, the set averages just 145 watts. In a dark room it uses even less, since the sensor automatically turns down the backlight level. Only 145 watts for a 52 inch television with 120 Hz motion correction. I'm impressed!
As far as longevity goes, only time will tell, but since this basically a standard Sony LCD with just a more efficient backlight setup, it should be fine. If things do go wrong in the future, I will make sure to update this review.
Anyway, if you are on a sub $2000 budget and want a great 52-inch TV that won't jack up your electric bill, then this is the one to get (unless you want to wait yet another year).

Sharp Aquos LC46D65U 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV Review

(More customer reviews)Shazaaam! We went from a 15 year old, 28-inch Hitachi CRT to this puppy and couldn't be happier. Granted, the cheap thrill is less than a week old (Boxing Day special) but the screen speaks for itself. Why didn't we jump at the better rated Samsung or Sony 46 inchers? Price! I honestly can't see that big of a difference -- if any -- in picture quality over the others and they normally cost hundreds more. To calibrate your 46D65U, start with the online CNET review of the LC52D65U and use the recommended settings given in the blog link. Then fine tune the levels as you get better acquainted with the big screen. The banding issue of the older models? Gone. Or at least I haven't seen any bands so far and neither have recent reviewers. I find the remote control very easy to use once you know where everything is and can't believe the reviewers who whine about the remote's size etc. If you don't like the color in a particular show or movie, it's extremely easy to pull the menu down on the screen and quickly adjust things to improve the picture quality.
We set this black beauty up in less than an hour (getting it safely out of the box and onto the stand took most of that time) and have been watching our old DVDs and VHS tapes as a test before purchasing a newfangled Blu-ray player. Sure the old stuff isn't as sharp as a 1080p hi-def source but it was still more than acceptable to our old eyes -- surprisingly so. In fact, I've decided to go with the Toshiba DVR7 DVD/VCR combo player with the upconvert feature so I don't have to abandon my huge pile of old VHS tapes and DVDs. If the DVDs upconvert to a better quality image that's even half close to hi-def we'll be more than happy. The VHS tapes will have to play as they are since they can't be upconverted. Hopefully, Blu-ray players will be significantly improved in the coming year or two and tempt us out of our old ways. [UPDATE: See my review of the Sharp BDHP21U blu-ray player...we went that route instead and are happy we did.]
Bottom line: With this TV you get a nice big screen and full HD capability. If you're traditionalists like us, you may be delighted to find that the LC46D65U also brings new life to old technology!
UPDATE UPDATE (early February): New firmware available online for the companion BDHP21U Sharp blu-ray player which will fix any current play issues with the latest blu-ray DVDs. What I LOVE about the Aquos Advantage is that they phoned me and personally alerted me to that new update after I lodged a complaint about not being able to view my WALL-E blu-ray several weeks ago. Tip to Sharp: Keep those firmware updates rolling in on a weekly basis, not every few months!!
Also note that if you are wavering between the Sharp LC46D65U and the similar 85U (the more expensive 120Hz model), CNET noticed no discernible real life difference in blurring between the two. Verdict? Save your money and go with the 65U. I watched the Superbowl with it and saw no blur. My family is loving it! UPDATE on blur comparison late March: Went into Best Buy yesterday for the latest Bond DVD and had a critical look at the 65U and 85U which were conveniently wall-mounted side by side. Quite frankly, I couldn't see any difference between the two in terms of color, saturation or blur during sports sequences including twirling snowboarders midair (and the 85U has 10-bit color and 120Hz). I did think the top-end 800 series Samsung beat them both hands down, but then it's more than double the retail price (and three times what I paid for my 65U on sale). Does that Samsung provide triple the viewing pleasure? Not in my (pocket)book!
I also note a recent reviewer handing the 65U a pitiful 1-star rating because it was "Very contrasty, lots of digital noise". Huh?? I suggest learning how to properly calibrate your set before low-balling this beauty with a trash score. See above for info on CNET link.
Along the same whining "1 star" lines comes a reviewer who says the unit is contrasty and pumps out heat. Well, again, I'd use the CNET review to tweak your settings. If that didn't turn your crank then go spend double or triple on another make. Pumping heat? I live in a cold climate and if the unit actually did produce heat, I'd be more than happy to report it! Holding my hand a few inches from the set, I felt virtually nothing. I should point out that all recent Sharps are Energy Star compliant and are produced in a solar powered "green" factory to boot. That's one of the reasons I bought a Sharp. Although plasmas are known to have better darks and contrast, they're also bulky, suck energy and pump out heat. Last week, the 65U was going out the Amazon doors for under a thousand bucks with free shipping for cripes sake. It may not be perfect, but you can't beat that for value.

(More customer reviews)I just bought this tv and had it installed yesterday! I was unsure wheter my TV rack would hold it (it was build to hold a 42"), but it's doing just fine! This TV actually feel almost as heavy as my 2007 42", which I suppose is due to new materials used.
The instalation is a breeze. It comes with a connections guide (in case you need one), and taking it out of the box couldn't be easier. You might think that getting a 52" tv out of the box might be something short of a suicidal thing, but it's actually very very easy! The whole box comes out from the top, leavint the TV sitting neatly on it's stand on the floor, ready to be picked up and be placed wherever.
After you plug it in, a settings assistant comes up, and helps you set up the picture the way you like it, without messing with numbers or complicated settings. You just look at which of the 2 pictures shown you like better, and select it. Do this 5 times, and you're set. Off course, you can edit all the little details later.
Installing all the channels took around 2-3 minutes, and I have about 200 channels, between digital and analog. No issues here.
It's also nice and fast to change channels. Like that. Some TVs take a long time to change channels, don't know why.
The picture is GREAT. If you've never seen the image of a 1080p 120hz TV before, check it out. Watching a HD movie on this is as good as it gets, and in my opinion, the quality beats other more expensive brands. Another nice feature is that the speakers are all in the back, so you don't see them, but they actually sound as good as if they were right there. Again, not sure how they do this.
All and all, very happy with this TV. Recommend for anyone who wants a nice movie experience at home, or enjoy playing Tennis with their Wii, and always complain that 42" "just isn't enough" :)

At 22" and 720p you could not ask for more other than a slightly larger screen at a slightly larger price. When I compare this picture with the same model 40" there is no difference other than the size. I do not know the pixel pitch of either TV; however, the normal sighted viewer cannot tell any difference in picture quality even though the 40" is 1080p vs 720p. This TV makes the perfect companion for working on a computer and viewing the TV next to it. Any TV can be torn to pieces for this reason and that but for the money and size this is going to be hard to beat. One item that I might find fault with is the potential cost imputed in the TV for the Touch of Color. That is a waste of money for me and could be omitted in other models if the cost of the addition is eliminated as well. Unlike the 40", I had little or no problem calibrating this 22" even though the controls almost mirror each other.
My final: enjoy; I am.
added 9-22-08: I neglected to include an important element of this purchase. Amazon sold the TV and I am overwhelmed by their attention to details. Every part of the transaction went perfectly from placing the order on 8-10 and delivery a few days later using free shipping. The same TV at big box is 20% to 25% more and you pay taxes and cost of visiting. Amazon continues to give the best bang for the buck.

(More customer reviews)This Sony was sold to me directly from Sony in exchange for a 5 year old 60" Sony that had an 'optic block' problem that would require an expensive fix. Sony had been repairing this problem for free but I had no way to know that until mine went bad and then talking to Sony they had switched to an exchange program where the customer would pay about slightly less than half the retail price. If you have a slightly older Sony that is putting either a blue color on the screen or a green one you might start directly with the Sony Style website and contact their support help to see what they may offer you. On one hand I was very sad to see my 5 year Sony develop a problem but on the other hand I have to give Sony credit for standing up to the known problem.
The largest TV offered in the exchange program was this 55" model or I certainly would have gone for the 60" because I prefer that size. That said this model has a better and more vibrant picture than my older Sony which was a premium model that I had paid over $4,000 for. So the bottom line for me is that this new Sony has a better picture for less than the old one even if you pay retail. My old Sony weighed 113lbs and this new one is around 65lbs so it is easier to handle. The remote is better and more intuitive. We watch this in a very bright room filled with natural sunlight during the day and this TV handles that very well with no glare. The speakers are nothing to write home about and probably not as good as my old Sony but we tend to watch movies with the sound coming from a quality sound system anyway. My old Sony was 1080i and this one is full 1080p which is an excellent picture. We get our signal from Dish Net which broadcasts almost exclusively in 1080i anyway. For movies we use a Samsung Blu-Ray player which works beautifully with this TV. In fact there is a type of automatic setting that the Samsung and the Sony have where when you turn on the Samsung the TV also turns on and then goes directly to the input from the Samsung. Very cool. Truthfully I can barely tell the difference from a good blu-ray picture and a good standard DVD. We tend to use Netflix a lot and always order Blu-Ray when available.
I thought the set up was easy and the available HDMI connections are excellent as my old Sony only had two HDMI inputs and this one has 4. We actually use all 4 with a DVD recorder, Dish Net, HD camcorder, and the blu-ray.
I would have no problem recommending this Sony LCD TV and in fact when I looked in the stores I thought the new LED LCDs seemed a little too bright. I do miss the 60" size but everyone who has looked at this picture has been in the 'wow' camp with it.

I found that the 19" was still a bit too small for my liking, and the 6 series did not have enough improvements over this model to warrant the $90 increase in cost (the LN22A650 was on sale at a local store for $550). I ended up buying this television for $460 from amazon, and I am very happy with my decision. The tv is a perfect size for my small bedroom, and the picture quality is superior to many other brands that I have seen.
Pros:
-Built in digital tuner can be used to receive FREE HD channels via OTA broadcasts when connected to an antenna (almost all hdtv's have this, but it's an important feature to note if you don't want to pay for cable)
-PC input (VGA) can be used to connect a laptop for viewing streaming or downloaded internet content
-Picture quality (free HD channels are amazing, and upconverted DVDs are also great)
-Aesthetics of the tv set itself (it looks pretty slick when paired up with a matching upconverting dvd player, the Samsung DVD-F1080 1080p Upconverting Compact DVD Player)
Cons:
-Only 1 HDMI input
-VGA instead of DVI input for PC
-SRS "surround sound" is disappointing; I just keep it turned off and turn up the volume
Despite the few complaints, I still give this product 5 stars, because samsung seems to have gotten all the more important details right with this tv. You can't really expect to get impressive sound from hidden speakers that are pointed downwards, though the quality is good enough for a small room. Highly recommended!

(More customer reviews)Well, I did not buy this TV from Amazon but found an authorized online retailer that had a fantastic price with free shipping. Let me tell you, I researched televisions for about three months straight. I had been debating between the Samsung LN52B750 LCD, which had a razor sharp picture and at the time was priced right. Aesthetically, it was a beautiful television in just about every way. My biggest hang up was that certain movies and shows looked too realistic (distracting) and not movie like, especially when watching animated films or TV shows and even with the 240Mhz refresh rate for motion, the motion in fast scenes felt a bit off or distracting. The picture was/is extremely bright and the features hit the sweet spot.
I had also been comparing the LN52B750 with several different plasma televisions, mostly from Samsung, several Panasonic Plasmas that were/are highly rated from several review websites and the Pioneer Kuro Plasmas. So, I read all of the reviews I could find on about 10 televisions total that were highly rated or new to the market for 2009. My buddy has the 50" Pioneer Elite Kuro PRO-111FD which I might add, has a beautiful picture! It is almost unmatched. Then I went to BestBuy and directly compared several lower model number Samsung plasmas and LCDs and the Panasonic TC-P50G10 50" plasma. I honestly do not see what the big deal about the TC-P50G10 TV is. The picture is okay, it even looked okay playing a Blu-ray movie, but I was not impressed. The picture was a bit green, the casing of the TV was not the most eye pleasing design and that huge Panasonic logo on the front "chin" with a grey back ground was not appealing to me. I also compared several LG Plasmas and LCD TV's for 2009 and the new Toshiba Regzas (nice picture for the price I have to admit).
Ultimately, it came down to comparing the Pioneer Elite Kuro PRO-111FD to the Samsung PN50B850 (which has one feature less than the PN50B860 Samsung, as no one had a PN50B860 on display that I could find) and was amazed at how awesome the picture detail, flesh tones, natural colors, fast motion, contrast, brightness and motion was on the two Plasma televisions. They are very comparable and I consider them dead on as competitors. I ended up choosing the Samsung PN50B860 having seen the PN50B850 in person at BestBuy. The PN50B860 has the Cinema Smooth feature which the PN50B850 does not. I got it for under $2k with free shipping online with the optional 802.11N wireless Samsung Linkstick (WIS09ABGN) for less than $60.
The picture on the Samsung PN50B860 is phenomenal. Not only is the picture on this TV one of the best I've seen after months of extreme research, I got the best price on it and it cost less than the Pioneer and the Samsung LN52B750!!! I've been watching Blu-ray movies on it via my Sony PS3 gaming console for the last few days through HDMI. Movies like Hellboy II and Casino Royale are stunning and unbelievable on this set!!! Motion resolution/rendering is phenomenal. I recommend it over the Pioneer Kuro because I think it is a bit superior in quality (build and picture), features, aesthetic and Energy Star rating. It's SUPER THIN! You would not be sorry for purchasing this set! It's simply stunning. The remote is surprisingly nice as well. I'm not a huge fan of Samsung's remote controls or TV interfaces (Sony and LG rule when it comes to remote control design an TV interfaces) but I'm happy with the one that came with the TV.
Audio is very acceptable in my book on this television. It's not super loud and robust but what television is, but for a small condo or apartment, it's perfect and very usable and enjoyable! The picture from the digital TV tuner for Over-The-Air broadcasts is pretty impressive as well.
Get it! You won't regret it! As for the other review regarding the buzzing...mine does not buzz at all. I'm guessing the person must be at a high altitude or may have received a bad set but this TV is pretty much flawless.
20091223 Update - Well, I have had this television for a while and I've had numerous friends asking for my opinion of televisions. They ask whether they should choose LCD, LED LCD or Plasma. I actually like all three technologies, but I have to admit I still prefer Plasma. This TV puts out a bit of heat I noticed but it is not that big of a deal. I still very much love this television and at it's current price is one of the BEST televisions on the market. Still have never heard a buzzing issue that others have talked about in this forum.
One Cool thing...Get the 802.11n Wireless Adapter. I was on travel for a while, came home and turned the TV on and I received an update notification on the screen from Samsung. I went to Samsung's support website to look for the update and it had not been posted yet. I have to say, I really like this feature of updating firmware automatically over the internet ON my television. I've also downloaded a few Blockbuster video's on this TV over the Adapter and it's a pretty pleasant experience.
In the end...no regrets on buying this TV. It's beautiful, functional, thin and the picture is literally just phenomenal.

Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P46G10 46-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV Review

(More customer reviews)This is based on my experience with the TC-P50G10, which is identical to P46 but with a larger screen. I bought it three weeks ago, and am very happy with it. I did a lot of research and tried out a number of TVs before settling down on this one, so I thought I would share some of the information and my experience with the TV, and hopefully make your decision in choosing the TV a bit easier.
First thing first. According to my research, the Panasonic G10 probably has the best picture quality among all TVs in mass production as of the time of this review (May, 2009). Most importantly it has pitch dark black level, scorching brightness, high color accuracy, and good motion processing.
I chose the Panasonic plasma over Sony and Samsung LCD for a few reasons. (1) Compared to 120Hz LCDs, Panasonic is significantly cheaper than Sony and Samsung. (2) I think the G10 is better in handling motion than the 120HZ LCDs. (3) The colors on the plasma are more appealing to me than those on the LCDs. (4) It has superior viewing angle. It looks perfect from any angle you will actually watch the TV without washing out the color, prserving the quality of the color.
The third point on color appeal is subjective and calls for description of subjective experience. There are lots of technical comparison of the colors on different displays on the internet, but my perceptual experience is that the colors on the panasonic plasma is very vibrant, punchy, tantalizing, and mesmerizing. The colors look like things in real life, but they are more intense than real life. A friend said "it's prettier than real, but not distorted. It is just like an enhanced colorful world." If you prefer high fedelity to real life colors, you can use the THX mode to tune it down to be very faithful to studio color measures. LCD in comparison is also very vibrant, but it doesn't look as realistic. It's more like computer graphics and less like colors of living things. Technically, this may have to do with the deeper black level on the plasma than the LCD.
Before the G10, I had the Panasonic Viera TH-46PZ80U 46-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV. Both TVs have very appealing colors, but I returned the PZ80U and got the G10 because the G10 has a number of important improvements over the PZ80U: it has a brighter plasma display, has a VGA PC input, lower energy consumption, and more accurate color. Also, its frame is more compact, so I can fit a 50" G10 into the space that would only hold a 46" PZ80U. In fact, the G10 is brighter and more contrasty than last year's top model Panasonic TH-50PZ850U 50-inch Viera 1080p Plasma HDTV.
What else do I like about the TV? It is very bright for a Plasam TV. According to tech specs and online reviews, it is the bightest plasma ever made. In Custom Mode, it is more than bright enough to watch in my room with direct sun light (sun light in the room not on the TV). In Vivid Mode, "you should prepare to put on your ski googles". In fact, it's too bright and overly constrasty and saturated for regular viewing. However, it is quite useful in displaying low resolution and low quality online video such as YouTube or Netflix Instant Watch. The extra boost in brightness, contrast, and saturation make the low quality online video look much more appealing and lively.
VieraCast is kinda cool. Not a deal maker but certainly not a drawback. I used third party firmware DD-WRT to set up a Linksys WRT54G2 Wireless-G Broadband Router as a wireless bridge. So the TV can get online without running a cable to my main router.
I find this TV fits my needs perfectly. But no TV is perfect, at least not for the technically savvy.
So here are the cons:
(1) The sound is mediocre. It is fine to watch a TV show, but lackluster to watch a good movie or music show.
(1.2) True Cinema 24-frame mode flickering is perceptually disturbing because the refresh rate is set to 48 Hz in the mode. It is a pitty because motion does look much more life like and less video like in True-Cinema mode. Wish the TV could run at 72 Hz.
(2) My PC only has VGA out but no DVI out. (This point does not matter for those with DVI out on their computer. A DVI to VGA cable will work fine) The VGA input on the TV does not support 1080 HD. It only supports up to 1280x768. Panny should not cut corner here. Although this problem doesn't really matter for video contents because most computer video resolution is less than 1280x768. And the pixel interpolation effect on the Plasma is more like a CRT and less like an LCD. So the set is reasonably good at displaying contents with resolution lower than its native res.
(3) VieraCast needs improvement. The content is still limited. The search function of Youtube on VieraCast is not as easy to use as on a computer. The Amazon video on demand price is way too high (but this is not really Panny's problem). I would kill for a firmware upgrade that enables Netflix streaming.
(4) The remote is not as well laid out as the one on PZ80. The 3 big buttons above the directional keys are occupied by the rarely used VieraLink, VieraCast and VieraTool. The commonly used Menu key is moved to a small key. Totally wrong choice of ergonomics.
(5) VGA PC input is paired with RCA audio input. I wish it is a 3.5mm (1/8 ") mini jack instead, which will allow a single cable cable integrating VGA video and mini jack audio. Now I have to use two cables.
(6) The stand does not swivel.
Regardless of the above drawbacks, overall I find this TV to have the best picture quality and price combination. The pros by far outweigh the cons. The picture quality of this TV is truly amazing, as such some calls it "The New King of Plasma." Anyone seriously considering an HDTV should take a look at this one, now that the Pioneer Kuro exited the market.
I highly recommend it.

Cons: Don't buy this set if you use an outdoor antenna with rotator. The set does an "autoscan" to acquire and memorize all analog and digital channels with the antenna pointed in one direction. If you rotate the antenna to another position, you can manually enter analog channels into memory from the remote's keypad, but NOT the digital channels. In order to view the digital channels at the new antenna heading, you must perform the "autoscan" again... takes about 2 minutes... and the "autoscan" erases and replaces the channels memorized from the original antenna heading. Verified this performance issue with Samsung Tech support. Verified this flaw with sets in two dealer showrooms with Samsung HDTVs. No solution available. Sony and other sets worked fine for manual digital channel entry. This is a serious drawback for an otherwise good set.

(More customer reviews)From reading AVS forum I was ready to pull the trigger on a Panasonic G10. Then went to Best Buy to see them in person and this thing was just so much nicer in every way. I'm sorry Panny fanboys but the picture on the current models just looks dingy. The older ones were much nicer. Maybe they made too many compromises for the "eco" thing. And WAY reflective. Anyway, the Samsung came today, no more calibration that setting it to "movie" mode (will wait til after break-in for that). Watching a show about quasars & pulsars on DirecTV HD Channel (720p) and we are saying "whoo" and "wow" just like watching fireworks. The colors are vivid, but not harsh (like LCD's can be). No banding, jaggies. Incredibly detailed, but smooooth. It's just amazing. Flesh tones so natural it's like you're looking at a real person. This replaced a calibrated Samsung 56" DLP, which I preferred to anything I'd ever seen before (had it's caveats but LCD RPTVs were positively hazy at that time so I went with DLP since the rainbow thing was rare and didn't bother me - kind of pretty actually.) But this just blows it away. It's like the fog has lifted. Hot? Yes, it's putting off some heat; but I live in a cold climate (SF) so no big deal. Buzzing? If you put your ear right next to it (the hard drive in my DVR is way louder) but then I'm essentially at sea level, supposedly higher altitudes worsen that. Reflections? Yes, but nowhere as bad as CRT or (ahem) the current generation of MacBooks. It's glossy but subdued. For the first time I have an in-home viewing experience superior to a movie theatre. Just can't emphasize how natural the picture is. I hope Samsung & Panasonic will continue this technology. I love LCD TV for the kitchen, it's fine for watching the news, and great on the computer for static images, but this is a true videophile experience. Like MP3's (which sound great) vs full uncompressed quality digital sound. I can see how (especially sports oriented viewers) might prefer LCD - it's bright, sharp, vivid (especially if you're looking straight on - not so great off center). But if you want to see subtlety in light, shadow, cinematography - this new tech plasma is the way to go. Maybe the key is you need a technology where the pixels are producing their own light. The last time a picture was so smooth, natural, detailed to my eye were the last generation of Sony CRT Trinitron Wega sets. Perhaps OLED will be the next step up but I'm very happy with this. And Amazon's price, white-glove delivery, return policy can't be beat.The guys from Pilot unboxed it and made sure it was working before they left. Hauled it up 2 flights of stairs. I can't believe this marvel of technology was cheaper than a decent laptop.

(More customer reviews)I originally bought the LN22B350, the latest unit in this series, but had to return it. You can read my review on it, but in short, it was because despite the literature stating that it has one composite AND one component input, it actually should read one composite OR one component. You could only use one or the other because they share the video input jack. So, after viewing an actual image of the input panel on this unit, I took a baby step back and ordered the B360.
Wait a minute! Amazon gave me a backhanded "upgrade" by erroneously shipping the LN22A450. The 4 series is better than the 3 series, but the A series is older than the B series. They were willing to let me keep it, but after doing a little bit of research I found that the technology has leapt forward since it was made. Among other things, it had only a 3000:1 contrast ratio whereas this one has 15,000:1. These days there's little difference between the massive numbers spun out by manufacturers unless you're in a high tech calibration setting, but when you talking one that low, it's not a good thing. So, one more swap and I got the LN22B360.
I really like this set. Unless you're an audiophile, there's not a single thing wrong with the sound. There are different settings and a bit of an equalizer to customize, and at the level of 44, the volume is excellent. People just need to understand that no manufacturer is going to put high end audio in a unit at this price point. The 22-inch set is not the one you want to pay $500 for, or should need that kind of audio. You're not going to get a lot of the bells and whistles you get with the bigger sets because that's not what people are using their small TVs for.
So after one that was too new for my old equipment, and one that was too old for the new technology, this one is just right. I chose Samsung for the on/off timer, of which this unit has three, and the options there are better than expected--select all days, weekdays, weekends, etc. The set-up was easy, the remote balanced (though no back light), buttons are a good size and arranged fairly intelligently. The smaller screen makes the 720p and 60hz non-issues. Since I don't pay for premium services, it was nice to see several channels airing in HD without a converter box. And on the down-low, I'm getting intermittent On Demand broadcasts, though I do wish whoever ordered them would take fewer potty breaks. Too much pausing and rewind. LOL!
I'm very satisfied with this purchase and hope to buy its big brother (46") in the future after I'm sure Samsung is the way to go (and I think it is).
UPDATE 12/22/09 -- Just wanted to add that I'm still liking this TV. It completely meets my needs and expectations, although the On Demand feed stopped, darn it!

The picture is excellent. The viewing angle is excellent. I researched alot of 19" LCD TV's and decided on this one. Many other 19" tv's have a poor viewing angle...this one does not. The picture is clear. You will not go wrong with this TV. I have mine connected to a small radio shack Hi-DEF off-air antenna for the kitchen. I was amazed that I gets over 20 HD channels on it. The antenna is small and mounted outside. I would really compare this TV to Sony, Samsung. Its just as good. Not to mention the price..wow..it was about the same price as the bargain, off-brand TV"s. You wont go wrong with this little beauty! Youll see every pimple on American Idol! Whew hooh!!!!
