You take it out of the box, attach the base (3 screws), put the included batteries in the remote, hook up the cable, plug it in, hit power, answer a few questions and it starts to automatically scan for channels which takes 10 minutes or so.
Voila, you're watching and listening to TV. If you get a HD signal, they come in fine. For that you'd enter 5 for standard def. channel 5 and 5-1 for the HD channel 5. Easy.
The audio is, well, it's not great but it does allow you to plug in speakers or an AVR if you like. There are also 2 HDMI, component, and compositite video connections.
Again, nice little TV for $150. If you want to spend more I'm sure you can get more features but how many features do you want in a 19" TV?

(More customer reviews)I got this for Christmas in 2008 (i think). Have had SD signal programming coming through since I got it, and it sounds and looks fine. I have my Xbox 360 plugged in running at 720P, doesn't look too bad, not fantastic, but not bad HD.
Only problem is that it seems that the pixels are slowly dying away, only a few a year, but its not noticeable from a distance.
Other than that its a pretty standard TV, nothing fantastic, but it gets the job done.

(More customer reviews)This tv is beautiful and easy to set up.The worst of it is that it's best viewed when fully vertical, and the prop in the back isn't long enough for that, so I needed a piece of wood under it to raise it. It doesn't have its verticality worked out - unless you mount it on a wall. It has outlets and inlets for seemingly any device, and suggests hookups. It's been a daily part of my life for a month, and it's beautiful, and easy to control and hook up. I would highly recommend it.

(More customer reviews)I compared the picture quality of the Toshiba 19AV600U side by side with Samsung (at our local Best Buy) after tweaking both to their maximum quality and the Toshiba had truer colors with accurate flesh tones, probably due to the 10 bit color. The sound was also much better (and louder) than other TV's of the same size. If you can live without the headphone jack, then this will be a great choice, especially for a small bedroom or kitchen.
One more thing that impressed me and my daughter was how the TV cleaned up the standard analog cable channels, apparently due to the noise reduction feature, which we put on high. Some of the channels even look as good as digital or HD. The 19AV600U also has (2) HDMI jacks and is a great looking little TV even when it's off. We mostly buy SONY but was settling for Samsung (since Sony is not that impressive in this size range) until I ran across this little jewel.

Cons: Don't buy this set if you use an outdoor antenna with rotator. The set does an "autoscan" to acquire and memorize all analog and digital channels with the antenna pointed in one direction. If you rotate the antenna to another position, you can manually enter analog channels into memory from the remote's keypad, but NOT the digital channels. In order to view the digital channels at the new antenna heading, you must perform the "autoscan" again... takes about 2 minutes... and the "autoscan" erases and replaces the channels memorized from the original antenna heading. Verified this performance issue with Samsung Tech support. Verified this flaw with sets in two dealer showrooms with Samsung HDTVs. No solution available. Sony and other sets worked fine for manual digital channel entry. This is a serious drawback for an otherwise good set.

(More customer reviews)We just got this little gem for our kitchen and it's just wonderful! The automatic Plug & Play setup found all the DTV, cable, and DTV air channels automatically. No need for a cable box with our Comcast cable service but you'll need a box if you want premium cable channels, on-demand, etc.
The LCD panel sits on a clear stalk which attaches to a nice oval base with a swivel-tabbed screw. No tools needed. It then fits into the hole in the base of the LCD and it can be tilted front to back. Since we use it in the kitchen, we have it tilted back. The swivel is stiff at first but it works well and tilts a few degrees off the vertical back and forward. When it's first attached, it appears to tilt forward so just firmly hold the base and push the monitor back.
The sound when set to Standard mode can seem a little tinny but it's better in Movie mode. The picture always needs to be adjusted at first since the standard settings are always too bright and too saturated. Reducing the contrast and the color setting helps produce a more natural picture. The tone is set to Warm2 but I find setting it to Normal works better. There are lots of ways to tweak the picture and the sound to achieve pleasing results.
NOTE: Amazon says this set has RED Touch of Color and that's WRONG. It's CHARCOAL.
This is a perfect LCD TV for small spaces and kitchens. We love it!

(More customer reviews)I bought this TV a couple of weeks ago primarily for watching DVDs in my bedroom. While I hooked it up briefly (via HDMI cable) to my DirecTv HD DVR just to check the picture (great with both SD and HD programming), most of my experience with the set has been with it connected to a Samsung up-converting DVD player.
Color and contrast are spot-on. Adjusting the variable backlight, brightness, and contrast controls yields perhaps the best picture quality I've seen from non-BluRay DVD. Ther are 3 picture pre-sets-Dynamic for viewing in a bright room, Standard for normal viewing, and Movie for watching in a darkened room. Sound quality and quantity are perfectly adequate. Vertical and horizontal viewing angles are relatively generous. While there is not an over-abundance of inputs-one HDMI, one S-Video, a single set of component and composite, and a pc input for use with a computer, that's typical for smaller-screen TVs.
When I purchased this TV, there were no reviews available online, so I was prepared to return it if it didn't meet my tastes or needs. But it has greatly exceeded my expectations. For viewing from a distance of 3-5 feet it's perfect.
Well, maybe not quite. The menu text size is a little small for my middle-aged eyes. The glossy cabinet is pretty light-reflective, as is the screen, if you're watching in a room with a light behind you. And the picture settings apply to all inputs, so you can't store a different set for, say, watching TV, DVDs, or Video games. And the tiny light-touch and poorly marked control buttons on the right side of the cabinet are too easily pushed inadvertently when you pick the set up to reposition it.
Still, those are minor beefs, far outshadowed by the excellent over-all performance of this TV. If its 19' size is adequate for your needs, I highly recommend it.

VIZIO M190MV 19-inch Full HD 720p LED LCD HDTV Review

(More customer reviews)An LED/LCD HDTV for under $200 was unthinkable a year ago. Vizio gets points for marketing new technology at low prices. But all is certainly not well. First, the good: the picture is so crisp that my years of skepticism about and resistance to blurry LCD (and now LED) TVs was removed--really fine detail, clarity, brightness, and an amazing 20,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, without harshness or reflectivity.
But there are big problems. I tried *three* of these units, and all had the same issues, none of which the Vizio personnel would even admit they had heard about (except the firmware update, obviously, described below).
First of all, the firmware version may need updating: if the "last channel" button on the remote works randomly, and an image-size setting called "normal" is a tiny picture at the center of the screen, click "Help" on the remote and check the firmware version under "System Info." If it's anything under Vers. 1.49, go to vizio.com and download and install the M190MV update according to the on-line instructions. The firmware on all three auditioned sets needed updating--and the set was purchased and exchanged between late December 2010 and late February 2011!
Another glitch: TV program information is incomplete. Each click of "Info" on the remote reveals more about the program. However, the playing times and program lengths are random from channel to channel. Setting the TV's internal clock has no effect. Cable or OTA broadcasters include this most basic piece of information in their signals but this TV can't read it. Vizio Customer Service was completely ignorant and unhelpful (remember, I tried three identical TVs), as it is with virtually everything. Also, channels change very slowly, and the remote is narrowly directional, as well as floppy and wafer-thin with flush, hard-to-press, usually inaccurate or nonfunctional buttons.
Then there is the sound. A wafer-thin TV can't be expected to have decent sound with no resonating cavity; the sound is reminiscent of a transistor radio, ca. 1965. No setting makes any difference in quality. The TV also has no external-speaker outputs, and there isn't enough power coming out of the headphone jack (inconveniently located at the bottom left back) to drive *powered* computer speakers. Even hooking up the analog L/R outputs of a DVD player to powered speakers and the TV with a splitter is useless because it results in a slight delay/echo (speakers get the sound first for some reason); this is absolutely unheard of and unacceptable! The ONLY way to get listenable sound is to connect the optical digital output to a separate amp or sound bar (one hopes); heavy-handed marketing persuasion almost doubling the cost of the TV!
None of the picture presets yield realistic colors: "vivid" comes closest on first glance, but it is so intense and saturated, with 90% back-lighting (!), that screen burn could occur in no time and visual details are distorted by glare. There is a "Custom" setting which can drive you to distraction. It contains an adjustment for "Color Temperature"--re-apportioning the Red, Green, and Blue gain; when one has gone as far as possible, b&w is still untrue and has a reddish/brownish tint (even disconnecting the color components of a three-cable component DVD connection, leaving only the basic b&w signal!). B&w DVDs are very unsatisfactory. Actually, even the colors are all off: blues are often violet, and at the same time, faces can have too *little* red and seem pale or greenish. I'm not sure how combination this is even possible. All this is compared against two well-adjusted 2003 Samsung CRTs.
The LED edge back-lighting is designed very poorly indeed. In all three units I tried, unless the brightness level was absurdly high, I could see faint white light at the left and right edges of the screen, and less faint blue light on the lower edge, when the image was a darker one. This is not helped at the bottom by a VIZIO logo illuminated in bright and fluorescence--one of the most idiotic things I have ever seen.
Typical of LCD/LED but still annoying, only straight-on viewing is possible, especially up and down. Moving your head seriously alters the brightness and even visibility, unlike plasma and old CRT TVs. LCD designers should have solved this by now but evidently have no monetary incentive for doing so.
This HDTV is inexpensive but is just so sloppily designed that it should be avoided even as a starter unit, despite the crispness of the images. Try another brand--though the angle viewing on LCD/LED will still be an issue. And if you need anything smaller than a gigantic 42" screen, plasma is not an option so you're stuck with the LCD/LED angle-viewing problem or your old SD CRT. Modern technology, huh?!

Philips 19PFL3504D/F7 19-Inch 720p LCD HDTV Review

(More customer reviews)After my previous 13 inch Sharp LCD TV died recently, I was in the market for a new small LCD TV for the kitchen. After shopping around I purchased the Philips 19PFL3504D/F7 19 inch LCD HDTV from a B&M Target store; this is the same TV available here either from Amazon itself or sold through Amazon by target.com/ITC. IMHO this set competes with other 19 inch sets such as the Toshiba 19AV600U 19-Inch 720p Portable LCD HDTV, Black and Samsung LN19B360 19-Inch 720p LCD HDTV, Black, which cost $45 to $80 more than the price I paid for the Philips. (Due to reliability / customer service concerns I did not consider any of the numerous no-name or store brand TVs available.)
First things first, at present the Philips requires a firmware upgrade (available at the Philips website) to eliminate an annoying high-pitched hum that occurs when the TV is powered off. If you have a computer and a USB flash drive this is an easy fix. Hopefully this will not be required on future shipment of the TV.
Setup of the Philips was very straightforward, and includes a guided setup which displays several test images and has the user select their brightness / sharpness / color preferences. This appears to be a faster way to get a decent picture than having to manually guess what backlight / sharpness / brightness / color / tint settings are needed. Of course these manual adjustments are available if needed. After 20 minutes to initially scan analog / digital channels, the TV was ready to go. The QAM tuner was able to pick up all of the digital cable channels (SD and HD) present; due to the distance from broadcast towers I could not check OTA performance. Unwanted channels can be "skipped" via the Setup menu.
The HD picture was excellent, with a bright picture, saturated colors, and good contrast. The SD picture was obviously a step down, but analog and digital SD channels were reasonably good. There are several options to present SD content stretched to fill the screen, but I preferred to stay in Normal mode and leave black bars on the side for SD content. The sound of the unit is fine, even though I was surprised to see that the speakers are located on the bottom of the TV (the pictures on Amazon make it look like these are front facing speakers). I had no issue getting adequate volume out of the speakers, and the sound quality is good considering the small size of this TV.
The Philips tilts forward a bit and tilts backwards a bit more, which is useful if viewing the TV from above or slightly below. The horizontal viewing angles are very good, no real degradation of the image when standing to the left or right of the TV. Viewing from above is OK up to about 45 degrees. Viewing from way below can become a problem, so if mounting this TV high up (say on a wall mount) make sure you can tilt it down towards the viewer. (Note: most TVs I looked at locally exhibit the same issue when viewing from below - some at a much smaller angle than the Philips.)
The Philips includes 2 HDMI inputs, component input, S-video / composite input, and VGA input. There is both a digital audio jack (coax) and headphone jack. Other standard features include sleep timer, parental controls, and sound equalizer. The two features I wish this TV had was a channel label feature (particularly useful to label the myriad digital channels this TV now picks up) and some type of Favorites feature to quickly tune to certain channels; the Toshiba mentioned above has these features at a higher price. I also have some concern over the long term reliability of this TV, as older 19 inch Philips models have some reliability complaints on here. I'll update this review if needed (hopefully not).
In summary, after using this set for a while I would say that this is a fine TV for the price, particularly if you are able to get the unit on sale. It is missing a few features from higher priced Toshiba and Samsung offerings, but has fine picture and sound at a price competitive with the no-name brands.

(More customer reviews)This is a well built arm. It is intended to be mounted to a wall (just find a stud) and then your smaller monitor/LCD TV mounted to it. The arms swing nicely right to left. The 'tilt' on the monitor bracket is very stiff - a good thing if you don't want your monitor looking at the sky or the ground after a few hours! Just remember, when hanging a monitor you still have to deal with cables and power. It comes with mounting hardware (Screws, offset sleeves, and more.). I recommend it.

(More customer reviews)This is an inexpensive integrated DVD and 19-inch LCD HDTV. So I wasn't expecting the best quality.
With default "middle" settings, the colors are washed out and too bright. Also, faces appear a little too pink. I fiddled with the brightness, contrast, color and tint settings and found a reasonable compromise. Not great but OK.
The volume of the TV and DVD are quite different. The DVD at 100% is about the same as the TV at 50%. When on my treadmill I have the TV set at about 80% (turning it up any further seems to have little additional increase in perceived volume). It's just barely enough to hear. The DVD is hopeless even at 100% and will not overcome the volume of the treadmill at all. This issue is common for sets of this size, so I wouldn't consider this a unique issue.
The volume for playing CDs has he same issue. The audio quality playing CDs is absolutely horrid: tinny and compressed. Even with headphones.
Functionally I don't like the way the DVD works versus the TV. It would be nice if I could bounce between the two at whim and pick up where I left off. Unfortunately, switching to a non-DVD function basically turns off the DVD completely, so when you come back to it, you are starting over and have to scan your way back to where you think you left off.
Channel switching with digital channels is an issue. This works OK but sometimes there's a delay. It works best in analog channels, with fairly little delay. But in digital channels it can get really fussy. You go up channel by one and you can wait a few seconds before you finally get signal. If there is no signal, or not a perceivable one, switching to the next good channel or typing it in can take forever. A solid minute before the set becomes responsive. Pretty bad. Not sure what causes that.
For aesthetics, I would prefer the cable connect below rather than the side. Coax cables are fairly stiff and need room to bend, so it looks rather ugly hanging out the side of the TV to give it room to make it's way around.
UNBELIEVABLE! I left an objective review on Favi's website where they had a couple of very positive reviews of he product. I wrote exactly what was working well and what wasn't. It was up for about a day, then they removed it! They are biasing the reviews on their site. No email or anything from their support department. I provided all my contact info.
I will NEVER buy another Favi or recommend them to anyone.

The picture is excellent. The viewing angle is excellent. I researched alot of 19" LCD TV's and decided on this one. Many other 19" tv's have a poor viewing angle...this one does not. The picture is clear. You will not go wrong with this TV. I have mine connected to a small radio shack Hi-DEF off-air antenna for the kitchen. I was amazed that I gets over 20 HD channels on it. The antenna is small and mounted outside. I would really compare this TV to Sony, Samsung. Its just as good. Not to mention the price..wow..it was about the same price as the bargain, off-brand TV"s. You wont go wrong with this little beauty! Youll see every pimple on American Idol! Whew hooh!!!!

(More customer reviews)PROS: Kinda surprised that I'm the first person to write a review for this great 19" HDTV from Samsung. I guess 19" (actually, 18.5") monitors are not all that popular as they're generally too small for anything but a smallish space. In my case, I use it in my office adjacent to a pair of Samsung 2233 21.5" monitors that my wife and I use.
The 933HD+ is a great little HDTV/Monitor that's just perfect for the space I have. The colors are vibrant (I'm using an HDMI connection from my Comcast cable box) and the refresh rate is fine for football games and other high-motion broadcasts. The speakers are another matter (see below) but I bought this monitor for its picture, not for its sound. I've also used the analog D-SUB connector to hook this up to my computer as a second monitor (with a digital DVI connection going to the Samsung 2233SW). Works great for Netflix streams! The screw-in monitor stand was trivially easy to attach. Overall, a great small HDTV at a great price.
CONS: The biggest issue with this monitor is the underwhelming speakers. There just isn't much low end from the stock, tinny speakers. I knew this in advance and my solution is to just use a an extra set of Boston Acoustics computer speakers (along with a sub-woffer) using the headphone out 3.5mm jack on the back of the TV. Now it sounds great! The remote works, but it is hardly an icon of sleek design. Another gripe has to do with the Ultra-Mega shiney black finish. The finish is so polished that it reflects everything. Right now, I can see the reflection from all the Christmas lights in my house, and frankly I find this somewhat annoying. A matte-black finish would have been MUCH, MUCH better. Also, this things shows off fingerprints and dust like there's no tomorrow.Also noticed that depending on the viewing angle, the color vibrance and brightness can vary pretty significantly. This is the case with all LCD monitors, not just this one. But no big deal-breakers here.
OVERALL: For the price, I don't think there's a better value out there. The cons I noted have *nothing* to do with the performance of the monitor, either. Rather, they are cosmetic issues that are totally ignorable. I wish there were some after-market height-adjustable stands that attached to the base on these monitors. I find them to be just a little too low to the table for my tastes. Maybe Samsung will offer something like this as as accessory down the road (assuming they standardize on this screw-on based for all monitors/HDTV's in this class). The buttons on the side of the monitor are hard to use, but thankfully you don't need to interact with them very much -- set 'em once, then forget about 'em.

The reason I purchased this one is that it is unique in that it has forward facing speakers. Most small TV's have downward facing speakers and in a large room they are much harder to hear. This TV is perfect, small, loud volume and has a great picture. I also like how Vizio packs their small TV's because they are easy to re-pack and the box can be used many times. The base plate also comes off easy.
Highly recommend.

(More customer reviews)I was tasked with getting a small TV to put in my parents' kitchen. After reading lots of online reviews and looking at some sets in local stores, I finally decided to take the leap with this unit even though there were complaints of sound quality and small viewing angles. I have several friends with larger Samsung LCDs and they all have been very satisfied, so I trusted the brand.
I'm rather glad I did. This TV now sits on a counter between the main kitchen and the dining area, and while it's obviously not as clear from every angle as it is straight on, its horizontal viewing angle is at least as good as other LCDs I've seen and better than many. We don't really test the vertical viewing angle much since it's waist to chest height, but it seemed acceptable to me when I sat on the ground in front of it.
I was only marginally concerned about the sound since they have the option of passing the audio through to the kitchen zone of their distributed audio system, but the speakers hold up well for what they are. Don't expect the same sound that comes out of the sound bar of a 42-62" TV since these speakers are appreciably smaller, but they fill the fairly large kitchen/dining area just fine. Don't know if I got a great unit or it's just quieter in our place than other reviewers', but I don't see us having to turn it up much higher than 60 out of 100.
Can't really comment on the overall picture quality as they're just running standard definition to it at this point, but the colors are great.
Very much recommend this model to anyone looking for a small basic set.
