(More customer reviews)Never really concentrated to much on the sony products because of the prices of them. For the money, you can get a larger sized samsung like a 32", or for the same size TV you can save big bucks by going with a westinghouse or other bargain priced TV's sized at 26" which is ideal for a bedroom. After purchasing a 26" westinghouse and not being extremely happy I bought a 32" Vizio. Still not satisfied, I left the bargain TV basement and took the plunge and bought this TV. Wow, what a difference. At $300-$400 dollars more than the westy, I'm not sure if it's that much better if tied to a budget, but if you've got it (cash), get it (sony). As far as specs go, read the description, but rest assured this TV is really nice. Sound is better than expected for a 26", menus are nice, picture is B.A. On XBOX 360, the best and most graphically demanding game is by far Gears of War. This TV makes it look incredible. The darks are dark enough in the spooky parts unlike other TVs I've tried out which looked washed out and lame. This set really makes the whole thing look alot better. I have been switching between the 3 presets (vivid, cinema, standard) and haven't made any tweaks yet exept for turning on the dynamic lighting. I'm sure you could make the picture even better with some adjustments but it's unnecessary.

(More customer reviews)This is a great TV. I purchased this television from Best Buy, and was happy with it until I noticed the auto-dimming feature. After reading about it online, I've noticed tons of people having the same issue. Fortunately it can be fixed (relatively) easily. All you need is a compatible flash drive (you can check the Sony Support website for a list of compatible flash drives - I used 4 GB Sony Micro Vault), and a PC. From there you simply go to the Sony Support website and download the update/patch for the TV which completely eliminates the auto-dim feature. I got the link by accessing the chat service on the Sony Support site. The PC part is important; If you have an Apple computer, you won't be able to successfully install the update. I implore anyone who has issues with the auto-dim feature to download the update - it gets rid of the problem.
Pros: Great value; contrast ratio; 1080p; 40 inch screen.
Cons: Without the update/patch there is the auto-dim feature; only 60hz
Overall: I loved the TV at first, then hated it when I noticed the auto-dim, now love it again now that I downloaded the update. I would recommend this TV for anyone looking to upgrade to HD.

This TV has the Bravia Engine 3, not 2 like the spec sheet on this page says, so for the money, you are getting a top notch product. SD signals look like crap, because they are crap, its not your TV's fault, its your cable provider, but HD looks amazing. I have not been having any problems with the black levels, as described in other Sony reviews, and the colors are rich and vibrant. Plenty of inputs on this set. I currently have my macbook (watching HULU and other video streams, picture looks great) via DVI to HDMI, a PS3 (which is giving me the true 1080p experience for Blue Ray Discs, which is what I base my color and black observations on) and a HD cable box also taking up another HDMI port. I still have not even used 1/4 of the inputs provided. The cinema mode when watching movies adds a warmth to the picture that gives you a movie theatre experience without the "true white" LCD overexposure.
If you are looking for a GREAT tv at a semi-affordable price forget about Samsung and Panasonic, Sony is where its at for all around value, oh and you don't get that glossy screen which drives me nuts! Sound could be a little fuller, but by no means is it bad. Besides, if you are going to spend the money on a nice set, you might as well get a nice stereo system as well.
PROS- GREAT PICTURE, GOOD VALUE, GREAT COLORS, GOOD MODE SELECTIONS (PICTURE), LOTS OF ADJUSTABLE ITEMS, PLENTY OF INPUTS
CONS- AUDIO SOMEWHAT LOW, 240HZ ADVANTAGES REALLY HAVE YET TO BE SEENS AS THIS ONLY AFFECTS INPUTS THAT THE TV CAN CHANGE OR UPRES (IE CABLE).
ALL IN ALL I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS TV TO ANYONE SHOPPING FOR A NEW FLATSCREEN.

(More customer reviews)I just bought this model, and I also own a Sony 40" S model. I was tempted to get Sony's S model in this size, but the M is a newer model, and $50-$80 cheaper. Picture quality is, overall, equal to my larger set, (though fleshtones are more natural on the "S") which cost twice as much. However, I was surprised that it does not come with the stand attached. Not a big deal, but I've never seen this practice before. Also, unlike the S series classy flat black matte finish, this M model has the "Samsungy" glossy piano black finish. Again,not a big deal..but still. Anyway, despite all my nitpicking, it is the picture that really matters, and in that area, this set delivers in Sony tradition..excellent. For the money, a great set, a great value, but it will remind you it is entry level, something the S models did not do...of course, Sony's least, is still better than it's competitors best.

We have had other LCD HDTV sets, but this one far exceeds the picture quality of our other sets. Easy to set up. I got a wall mount for this size set and the entire installation took just a few minutes. Highly recommended and worth the extra money.

(More customer reviews)Love the HD picture quality (PQ) of the Samsung 52B750, but don't watch TV in cave and don't want to deal with all those reflections off a glossy screen? Well, the Sony 52Z5100 is the answer. HD PQ with the Z5100 is excellent with great black levels, but without the "shaving mirror" reflectivity of the screen during dark or black scenes. We were looking at the 52B750, based on reviews and seeing it at UE, but after testing our viewing room at various times of day with a glass picture frame and our "bright screen" LCD notebook, it was obvious that the reflections would drive us crazy over the life of the TV. We have two older HDTVs, both with matte screen and we don't miss the reflective glass screens of the old CRT TVs. The 52Z5100's screen is best described as semi-matte. Un-powered, the screen is reflective though dull. Power it up and there are essentially zero reflections, even with very dark scenes. What ever Sony has done to defeat reflectivity and minimize glare, it works very well.
As to performance, PQ with HD sources (OTA DTV and Dish HD) is as good as it gets, absolutely excellent and easily equal to the Samsung B750 (we viewed the Z5100 side-by-side with the B750 and the XBR9 at UE and couldn't discern any difference in HD PQ). Blacks are excellent and shadow detail is the best I've seen on a TV. No flashlights, clouding, or uneven lighting across the screen. Color realism and saturation are excellent. Viewing angle is average or typical of CCFL LCDs, which is about 45 degrees off center. Not bad and much better than the LED LCDs, which could be important if you plan to show off your new HDTV with a Super Bowl party next February (not everyone can sit right in front of the TV to see great PQ, like they have to with the LED LCDs).
We're just thrilled watching Starz and Cinemax HD movies, prime-time HD drama on the major networks, any live HD broadcasts, and especially any live HD sporting even broadcasts. The WOW factor is back! Can't wait for the NFL season to start. We watched the men's and women's French Open finals via live, OTA, HD DTV, with the Scene setting set to "Sports (MotionFlow on High, 240 Hz) and it was like we were standing behind Roger Federer on the court. BTW, the on-board ATSC digital tuner in the Z5100 is excellent. It is obviously of the latest generation as it is the most sensitive and most stable of any of our DTV tuners, including the Zenith CECBs we bought for our old, remaining CRT TVs. If you buy the 52Z5100, try hooking up an antenna to it and see what you can get. The uncompressed live HD from an OTA antenna is something to behold.
PQ from non-BD DVDs is excellent. Upscaled DVD movies on my Sony 1080p upscaling DVD player look as good as many of the HD movies on the pay HD movie channels. I don't have a BD player yet and with the PQ of my upscaled DVDs, I probably won't get one until the price drops substantially.
PQ from SD sources is a mixed bag. It really depends on the source. Decent 480i stuff comes across excellent, but some older video and movies look pretty bad and the MPEG Filter and CineMotion filter don't do much to help regardless of which setting you use. I'd give this set Average to a little above average on SD PQ. Using the MPEG filter set to Medium or Low improves bad SD video over no filter at all.
I'd rate the on-board sound system as above average for flat panel HDTV sound systems, even though I typically us the sound from my DD7.1 sound system. I don't do games, so I can't comment on that.
As for the internet connectivity, I'm not impressed. I've surfed through most of what is offered and it isn't worth much. A nice universal remote comes with the set. On-screen menu is poorly arranged (not intuitive, not logical, redundant in places).
Overall, I can't see anyone being disappointed if they buy this LCD HDTV and your friends will be impressed as well.

Sony BRAVIA NX 800 Series 52-Inch LCD TV, Black Review

(More customer reviews)Ok, I've been through 5 (yes five) TV's in the past 3 weeks since our original Sony rear projection died. We originally purchased a Sony EX700 series TV to replace the dead TV, however due to extremely poor viewing angles we returned it. We then had two Samsungs (UN55C6300) which were both defective so I decided to go back to Sony and get this TV (KDL52NX800). Here's my thoughts:
The Good:
The TV is absolutely beautiful to look at, when it's turned off. The "monolithic" design of the TV is very appealing and looks great. The picture quality is also very good on this set, although you can do better than what this set offers. The screen is fronted with a pane of glass, which adds to it's appearance as well. Internet widgets work great and a recent firmware update (automatic) made Netflix perfect. The menus are intuitive to use as well. The TV offers a vast array of inputs (4xHDMI) along with a blue-backlit remote control to control it all. Colors are awesome on this set and far superior to two Samsungs we've had prior to this set. The great colors are due to Sony's factory settings that are closer to THX than Samsung's.
The Bad:
This is my second Sony in as many weeks. We started off with an EX700 series but with it's rediculously narrow viewing angle we returned it and then went to Samsung. However, after two defective Samsungs we're back at Sony - this NX800 series. While the Samsung has a much wider viewing angle we gave up on the brand after receiving two defective units. The viewing angle on this Sony NX800 is similar to the EX700 - very narrow. At about about ~20 degrees off center things start to wash out. Also, the picture quality is not quite as sharp as the Samsung that we had however, after some adjustments the PQ can be improved. The remote control includes a cool blue backlight, but unfortunately the buttons are black plastic so you cannot read any labels (though you can see button layout). Lastly, the pane of glass on the front of this screen acts more like a mirror sometimes than it does glass. We've become accustomed to closing blinds and dimming lights while watching TV to overcome the reflections.
In general, we're quite happy with this set despite it's major drawback which is narrow viewing angle. You'll see the same complaint on most LCD's today - especially larger ones - however, the Sony seems to be the worst of the bunch. We'll live with it. Out of the box required very little color alteration to get it looking good unlike the Samsung which took me hours due to their "hot" color scheme. We did turn off MotionPlus to get rid of the "soap opera effect" that the new 120hz and 240hz TV's have so that was easy to overcome.
Having spent hours researching TV's I think Sony may be a better choice than other manufacturers despite their narrow angles. So much of this TV "just worked" right out of the box - including getting it working with Media Center (which was a serious PAIN with the Samsung). These sets are discontinued (last years model, replaced with NX810) so they can be had at pretty good pricing on the web and also at your local retailer.

(More customer reviews)I first bought the Vizio 42 inch VIA with internet apps. The TV just did not seem responsive at times, and you could not hook into your home network. I noticed this Sony and read into it. It allows you to connect to your home network and access video, music and other files off your home computer. It also has about 60 or so apps. A few months ago this TV was around $2000.00. I bought it at Sam's Club for half of that price. Amazing picture quality, way better than the Vizio LCD. So for abouth the same price as the Vizio 42" LCD, I got a 46" LED LCD SONY HDTV with all the things I wanted. Also the TV comes with the WIFI adapter to connect wirelessly to your home router. I believe the first shipment of this model did not come with the adapter and had to purchased seperately for around $75. So that is a nice addition. This TV is perfect for my family. Since we have gotten rid of DISH and cable. I just use windows media center to record all my favorite shows and then watch them by accessing them through the Sony Bravia Network connection on the TV. Also have a $9 Netflix subscription to stream videos instantly so the kids get to watch their shows as well. Since we are hardly home to watch TV with 3 children and full time employment, my wife and I decided to go this route. Much cheaper for us!

If you believe CNet, this TV, and other models such as the ex400 and ex700, suck. Nonsense ! I was originally planning on buying a
50in Samsung Plasma, until I found numerous complaints on line about them breaking down. So I decided to go with Sony, and I'm glad
I did. (BTW I also have a nice 42in Samsung Plasma with what I considered to be a pretty good picture)
This model has almost every conceivable feature you would want, a generous amount of inputs, extensive to the point of more than what the average person needs as far as picture options, a nicely designed remote control, and an absolutely stunning picture.
Yes, there are better sets out there, but for the money I spent, I think I made the right choice.
Since I'm not particularly interested in Internet content or Widgets playing on my TV, I can't comment on that aspect.
Each and every input on this set can be memorized and contoured to your liking. Another great feature is the energy saving mode,
and an actual on/off switch, wherein no power is being consumed at all.
The only real criticism and negative comment to be made is..... the picture dims immediately on any type of off-angle. Common with
LCD and LED sets, this one in particular seems very prone to this effect. The brightness and contrast are like cut in half as soon
as you move away from the TV. I don't have mine mounted on a wall, just a common TV stand, so the best viewing angle is directly
in front, which, compared to my Plasma sets, is an anomaly. Guess what ? I don't care.....
One distinct plus is, the matte screen, which does a good job of negating ambient room light reflections. The LED screen is just
as bright and colorful during daylight hours as it is at night in a darkened room.
All these complaints I read about local dimming, motion flow, 120hz, blah blah blah, this set looked great right out of the box.
You really can't ask for much more than that.....
