(More customer reviews)For the price and package I thought I had found a good all in one product to install in my kitchen with ease to stow away.
Upon unpacking this product brand new I found it to be very cheap plastic. I tested by plugging into my cable tv and found that it takes about 10-15 seconds for the unit to warm up to show a video picture. The next BIG complaint, is the volume is very weak. To the degree that if you were the only one in the kitchen and cooking and/or running the water at the sink you would not be able to hear even if it was turned up all the way. Then when it does show a picture it is of very very low quality. To change from TV to Radio or DVD it takes about 6-8 seconds between starting the new feature. The DVD drawer would not open all the way nor shut. This was a disapointment finding it defective out of the box. The remote control is suppose to have a magnet to place against say the refrigerator, it was missing any magnet from the packaging. The screws for mounting were missing as well.
I found a 15 inch LCD/HD Polaroid TV from my local Walmart for less money which out performs this by 100%.
This Coby product's performance/quality is not up to my expectations. Product was missing parts and accessories.
I would highly advise steering clear of this junk. This one was returned to Amazon.

(More customer reviews)I was looking for a replacement tv/dvd combo for our small travel trailer, and being historically a Toshiba TV fan, initially purchased a Toshiba 19LV61k, the latest model in basically the same such combo Toshiba has been producing for a number of years. I took it back immediately - great picture, but tiny speakers with volume so low that you could not hear what people were saying on screen from 3 feet away, even when you had it cranked to the max. Moreover, Toshiba provided no output for an auxiliary speaker system (other than a headphone outlet). After a lot of research, I purchased this Sharp. Unfortunately for me, Amazon did not have it at the time. The current Amazon price of $349.99 with free shipping beats what I paid ABC Warehouse by about twenty bucks (ABC is a great alternative retailer though). In any event, this combo is light as a feather, has a great picture, and ample volume. The model was introduced in January, 2009, and has all the current bells and whistles, including the option of surround sound (toggle it from the audio sub-menu; you will like it) and a coaxial audio output. So far (one month from purchase), we like the combo immensely, and would recommend it. From my research on line and examining different sets at Best Buy and other retail stores, I did not find a better alternative to this tv/dvdcombo in its size range, regardless of cost.
As of April 8, 2010, still going strong and giving good service

(More customer reviews)Looked at TVs for 3 months before making a decision after my 42" Panasonic Plasma died with a maximum of $1500 to spend. My first idea was to buy a Plasma again but I think it died due to how hot my room would get because of it, then I moved on to the LED TVs and wasnt impressed with the picture quality when I compared it to these 3 TVs.
I dont want to write a few thousand words so I am basically going to put this in a real simple explanation.
If your considering buying an LED LCD please go look at this TV or Samsungs LN650 or Sony HX701 I guarantee it will make you think twice about purchasing an LED TV based on the picture quality alone.
So why did I purchase this over Samsungs LN650 and Sony HX701?
Well it has a higher contrast ratio (Same as Sony), the response time is 2ms (Samsungs LCD & LEDS are 4ms couldnt find Sonys), it has a 240hz refresh rate (Sony has 240hz, Samsung 120hz)
THE MAIN PROBLEM WHICH I READ ABOUT IS THE AUDIO/VISUAL LAG via HDMI connection in both the Sony and Samsung TV. I have had NO PROBLEMS AT ALL and YES I DO RUN THE TV THROUGH A RECEIVER! (ONKYO HTR557) Ive watched HD, SD, DVD, and played Xbox360 with no audio/visual lag! I did notice this problem on the Samsung in 1 store. Also the Sony Model is a Canadian Model which you will only find at Costco in the US.
CONCLUSION: One thing that bothered me was that I couldnt find much information about this TV online but usually people will be quick to speak up when something is wrong with a product. The main thing I can say is the picture quality on all 3 TVs are great in this order 1)LG 2)Sony 3) Samsung. I cant comment on the sound because I use a surround sound. I have no had any problems with uneven back lighting, clouding, or audio/ visual lag. The only pain about this TV is mounting it because LG expects you to purchase a VESA wall mount. In other words the screws that usually screwed into the back of a TV to mount it to a wall are not included. I did find out that it is an M6 screw in the manual but it doesnt say the length. I recommend a 1/2inch M6 screw just to be on the safe side. Hope this review helped!

A little update....so far the TV have been worth every penny spent. Been watching a lot of DVD's and HD & SD content, playing Xbox360 and watching netflix. Unfortunately I havent experimented with the netflix on the actual TV because my router has no more ports for the TV :( but I do play netflix through my Xbox and it does look great 98% of the time. Im having a hard time getting a good picture watching sports though but I figure it needs some adjustments to get it just how I want it *might just me being to picky* Everything else looks great. The Picture Wizard adjuster is pretty good and will give you the results you want...its not a professional calibration but it does what its supposed to do. The intelligent sensor option tends to always make the picture very dark so thats a downer but who really cares for something thats going to consistently adjust your picture due to how lit the room is. So other then what I wrote before about the manual not including or mentioning what kind of screws to use to mount this TV to the wall mount...I would say get a full motion wall mount because the viewing angles can be a little tough to get used too coming from watching a plasma TV.

Well nothing new. This TV works like a charm in every aspect. I recently re-modeled my house and had to take everything down except my TV but I did have to take down the surround sound so I had to use the TV's speakers...I gotta say the speakers in this TV can get very loud and stay completely distortion free. I bought the LG Wifi Dongle to access the widgets but it seemed that after the update it wont even load it...im sure its some sure its an easy fix but I havent gotten around to it as its not that big of a deal to me.

Another little update.....I got the widgets working, all I had to do was unplug the TV and hold the power button for 45seconds. When I turned it on they worked perfectly fine.

(More customer reviews)Unless you want an inch thin LCD TV, this should be your TV of choice. I went to Sixth Avenue where they had an exceptionally large selection of LCD and Plasma TVs. This TV had the best picture quality of any LCD TV they had. I was planning on getting a Samsung 1080P 120Hz thin LED TV (could not quite swallow the price of the 240Hz) model until I read reviews of streaks in the picture quality when watching the TV in a dark room. I then moved on to the less expensive non LED Samsung 240Hz LCD TV which is still $400 more than this Toshiba. Luckily, the salesperson asked me to take a look at this TV first. This TV is back-lit LED which makes the TV thicker, but provides better picture quality than the side-lit LEDs in the thin Samsung. The 240Hz was a real bonus--especially in a TV that sells for this price. I have had the TV for a month now and could not be happier with it. I have had friends that visit comment that this TV has the best picture quality they have ever seen in any TV. This is the best 46-inch LCD TV you can buy that sells for a price that's unbelievably low when compared to the competition. It might not be the thinnest LCD LED TV, but it does have the best quality picture in any LCD TV. It is just one awesome TV.

(More customer reviews)First, I just received my second set from Amazon today. The first set had an issue on the inside of the GLOSSY glass screen. I couldn't tell if it was a thread or a small crack in the screen. It obviously wasn't supposed to be there, and Amazon swapped it out for me. I'm on my first couple hours on the second set, but I haven't see the same issue with the second set yet. This does support a couple other reviewers suggesting quality control may be an issue with these sets. This contradicts the weight of the TV suggesting it should be very well built.
The TV is stunningly simple to look at. There isn't a lot of extra bezel or showy manufacturer's name plates. I love this, as I'm usually driven nuts at having to look at a constant advertisment of a product I've already purchased. The "LG" that lights up at the bottom when the TV is turned on, can be set to be off when the set is on. This effectively means in a dark room (as mine is), the ONLY thing you see on this TV is the picture...exactly as it should be. The only exception is a small set of lights along the bottom that are only powered during power on and off to inform the viewer of this.
My general impression on the picture quality is mostly very impressed. I'm not a display expert so I'll only state what I notice as a slightly more "techy" than average viewer. These sets do seem to have a screen uniformity issue. Large and bright, white or very light colored sections of the screen will show light horizontal bands. These bands are light, but can be distracting depending on the viewer. It seemed to get better with more hours on the first set, but it could have been the firmware issue. Either way, know that if you watch a lot of content containing mostly white screens, you may want to look at another TV. Some people claim to not be able to see this. Others state they see even more of it during panning scenes. Perhaps there is some difference from one panel to the next. Either way, I have seen it on two sets, so anyone looking at purchasing the set should expect it, unless there is an update (software or hardware) to the set at some time.
I looked at a backlit/local dimmed set like this for one big reason though...CONTRAST. Buying this set to watch solid bright screens would seem to be a waste. Where this particular set really shows it stuff is in the black level it can achieve. Movies are beautiful. I thought my old RPTV had a nice picture, but the sharpness and clarity of the 55LE8500 really put my old set to shame. As mentioned above, when you turn off the LG logo, all you see is the picture. Even if there is letterboxing, you will only see the picture. The rest of the screen will be as black as the bezel, and in a dark room, you won't notice it as letterboxing at all.
Colors are vivid and natural looking. The settings from the factory are pretty decent, but count on using the two extra ISF settings that can be customized to your liking. Having a knowledgable Tech to come over to properly set up the TV would be wise if you can afford it, but it's not neccesary to achieve a nice picture. There is even a built-in menu system to aid you in doing so.
Summing it up

Tons of access to change viewing settings
discrete codes for most anything you might want for a customized remote.
Cons:
screen has uniformity issues

no 3D support
Overall, this is probably the best 2D TV released in 2010. If you can control the lighting in your room, and you don't watch lots of source material with large patches of very light scenes, this is the TV for you. Amazon is a great source for the set, but know the wireless media kit was offered free with the set last week, and the price has been changing dramatically (down and up and back down again). I gave it 4 stars because it could have been a bit better, and probably should have been.

I bought this TV because I thought that it had very good specs for the price. But, the picture really isn't that great. Given the specs, I think that it must be a software problem, and I'm guessing that it is a likely problem with all large screen LGs. The settings out of the box for normal HD programming (I have FiOS and put the set-top box settings at 1080i because that is what the TV handles best and is the highest resolution setting available from my cable provider, as 1080p is not an option) were really terrible. Watching football was originally a borderline nightmare due to the pixelation that was very difficult to get rid of with the wider field shots.
To LG's credit, it does allow the user a lot of options to calibrate the picture. I believe that I have my set optimized, and my settings are vastly better than the default settings innate with the TV. But honestly, the picture still occasionally has a lot of pixelation, especially with lower quality HD feeds, which, unless you watch almost exclusively Blu-ray movies, is what the average person watches the most.
I consider myself a sophisticated user. This is my second 52" HD TV and my third HD TV brand. (I had to buy another 52" HDTV because my other one was a Samsung, which broke. (I have had two Samsungs, both were lemons and broke in less than two years' time. That is another story. But, if you want to get a Samsung, good luck.)) Because I'm thinking that the way this LG TV handles the lower quality HD feeds is a software problem, I'm hoping that LG fixes its pixelation issue for the lower quality feeds with a firmware update. (I also have the wireless dongle, which is the most convenient way to get firmware updates.) If it does, I will update this post. Until then, I can't endorse this TV. (Whoever at LG is creating the picture settings, please look at the field for an American football game. The dancing pixels are insane. I have messed with every setting imagineable and can't fix it.)
Also for those of us that also bought the wireless dongle and have a Netflix subscription, options to calibrate the picture become inexplicably limited when attempting to calibrate the picture for the instant watch movies. This has got to be a super-easy firmware fix for LG. I will also post whether LG corrects this issue. (Update: This is still a problem. Though LG just upgraded it's netflix interface to match the new PS3 upgrade, which is nice. I will say that having netflix and youtube available at a push of the button on the remote is really a nice feature of this TV.)
(New paragraph: This TV has some interesting software decisions on it. The options to calibrate the picture for normal TV viewing are a mile long, which on some level you need because the factory settings are so terrible. The TV comes with a picture wizard that is actually somehow counter productive, at least in my case, because my best picture came by ignoring most of the settings that I created from the picture wizard. The picture settings can't be adjusted when using the Youtube app. One decision that affects my enjoyment of the TV is that LG removes audio options when you plug devices into the headphone jack. I plug high quality computer speakers into that jack in order to have a subwoofer, but often the background sounds are too loud and speech too soft: both of these problems would be solved by a single setting in the audio options, which is available when my speakers are not plugged in.)
Finally, the apps available with the wireless dongle are VERY limited. I hope that LG plans on adding more to justify purchase of the seperate dongle. The dongle accesses firmware updates and five apps: instant watch Netflix, Vudu (instant HD rentals), youtube, Picasa, and one other app that I forget because I don't use it.
(Update and clarification: Overall, I like this TV, but I don't love it due to the aforementioned issues (i.e., software decisions and handling of lower quality, high-definition feeds). I feel like I get a lot out of this TV as the focal point of my media set up. I have my HDMI slots taken up with (1) my set-top box, (2) blu-ray player, (3) Xbox 360, and (4) Desktop hard drive. When you add in the Netflix and Youtube apps that are instantly available at a touch of a button on the remote, I feel like it has all of the features needed to be the focal piece of my media center. It also handles high, high-definition very well, so watching Blu-rays and playing Xbox 360 look as beautiful as they should.)

(More customer reviews)Purchased from Amazon. White glove delivery was seamless. They unpacked the set, attached the swivel stand, placed it on the media console and hooked it up to the cablebox. All I had to do was supervise. Now let's talk about the 55LD650 itself.
Picture Quality. Considering there are no reviews out yet, I considered it somewhat of a gamble to purchase this new LG model (which according to the sticker was built in February of this year). But after watching HD programing for a few hours, my concerns evaporated. The picture quality is impressive. This is my first LCD. I've always been a plasma guy and have two Pannys, so I had my concerns. Howver, after watching Monsters vs Aliens, I definitely have no complaints about the PQ. The images on the 55 inch screen popped beautifully. So much so that my kids even asked if it was in 3D!
Off-Angle Viewing. Viewing the TV from various angles (even extreme ones), I can confirm that this set did not have any noticeable degradation in picture quality from off-angle viewing(unlike some Sonys I looked at). Very impressive.
Glare. This was the main reason I sought out an LCD set, since the TV resides in a very bright room with two sides of floor-to-ceiling windows. This eliminated the plasma option (though we first tried a Sammy plasma and aside from the mirror-like glare, we couldn't handle the loud buzzing noise it made). While there's some glare on this TV when it's not on, there was nothing noticeable on the matte sceen when watching programs.
All in all, I'm very pleased with 55ld650 thus far.

(More customer reviews)I bought this set almost a week ago at Best Buy for under $900.00. It was very heavy to get upstairs, but once installed in the cabinet, it was very easy to set up. The picture is absolutely gorgeous, even on non-HD channels when compared to a regular television; on HD channels the picture is crisp and sharp and the color just POPS. On other sites, I have read about distortion that is noticeable on the Samsung SlimFit, but this has not been my experience with this television. In checking out various sets in the stores, I always always let my eyes do the shopping. I can always pick out a Sony without looking at the name of the set, but with this one, I noticed the Samsung sets looked pretty darn good, and I am a Sony person. However, I did not want to spend more than a $1000.00 for a new TV and was limited as to how large a set I could get. My last very good set is a regular Sony 27" that is lasting forever in the family room, but we just lost a different set in our TV room; I thought the 30" inch screen Samsung HDTV was a good step up. I am very happy I bought this set. It really does provide a great viewing experience, complete with good sound for a very good price.
November 11, 2007- Just an update: We still love this TV. We've never had an ounce of trouble and the picture is just gorgeous. Maybe we're not discriminating enough, but we have good eyes. I am very glad I purchased this product and would recommend it.

You don't have to take out a second mortgage to enjoy the brilliant colors and vibrant realism of high-definition television, thanks to this 30-inch Samsung TXS3082WH CRT HDTV. At just 16.3 inches deep, it's 30 percent slimmer than a conventional CRT TV. Samsung's DynaFlat screen increases the viewing angle while minimizing distortion and glare, and it offers a maximum of 800 lines of resolution. The side speakers offer wide-screen design impact that takes advantage of the 16:9 aspect ratio, and the silver bezel provides an elegant and modern look.
You'll enjoy 480p, 720p and 1080i high-definition viewing right out of the box thanks to the built-in digital ATSC tuner, which pulls HD signals right from the airwaves. You can also connect the set to an optional receiver or cable/satellite set-top box using either the dual HDMI or dual component connections. An analog NTSC tuner receives standard-definition (SD) programming.
The TXS3082WH is packed to the gills with advanced video and audio features. The 3D Y/C digital comb filter constantly analyzes the three dimensions of picture height, picture width, and picture changes-over-time to dramatically reduce edge image artifacts while improving transition detail. The 3:2 pulldown cinema video processing feature detects and compensates film--which is shot at 24 frames per second (fps) compared with video's 30 fps rate--to video for a smooth theater-like experience at home. The velocity scan modulation function improves black to white image transitions for sharper detail and enhanced picture definition in high brightness operating conditions.
It also includes an Invar shadow mask for rendering detailed, high-contrast images free of geometric distortion. A shadow mask is a thin sheet of perforated metal behind the screen that restricts electron flow, each hole in the sheet corresponding to a single pixel. An Invar mask uses an alloy that's especially resistant to the high temperatures generated by the electron beam, allowing a brighter, clearer picture.
Choose the mode (standard, dynamic, movie, or custom with adjustable brightness, contrast, sharpness, and color selections) that best suits the program you're watching. You can also select from five screen filling modes--normal, wide, zoom 1, zoom 2, or panorama (which stretches less in the middle and more towards the edge). It has a number of convenience features, including Remote Surf timer (returns TV to original channel so other channels can be browsed during commercial breaks), sleep timer, V-Chip parental controls, auto channel programming, channel labeling, and tri-lingual on-screen displays (English, French, and Spanish).
It features two built-in, 5-watt speakers and right/left stereo output for connection to a home theater audio system. The Auto Volume Leveler feature keeps audio volume consistent during channel changing to minimize static sound bursts, and it offers four preset sound modes (standard, movie, music, and speech). High-quality virtual surround sound can be experienced with just the speakers built into the sides of the TV. SRS TruSurround XT technology delivers an amazing, simulated 3D effect with clear dialog and powerful bass. Enjoy progressive scan DVD playback or game play using the component video inputs. Tech Talk HDMI is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link any audio/video source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver) with your TV--all over a single cable. It provides up to a 5 GB per second bandwidth for transmitting pure digital video and audio signals with no degradation in the transfer. It can carry up to eight discrete audio channels, making it compatible with 7.1-channel surround sound systems. Signals are encrypted with HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) to prevent recording. HDMI is fully backward-compatible with most DVI connections .
Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. You will need a separate RCA left/right audio cable for sound.
High Definition Formats: The most common high-def (HD) video format is 720p, which displays video at 720 vertical by 1280 horizontal pixels. The "p" denotes that it is progressive scan, meaning that all video lines are filled at the same time. The 1080i format displays video at 1080 vertical by 1920 horizontal pixels, and the "i" means that it is interlaced (the old-school way of presenting video where the screen scans the odd-numbered video lines first, then the even-numbered lines). The 1080p format has the same pixel resolution as 1080i, but it is a progressive scan format and thus has a constant vertical resolution of 1080 lines.

(More customer reviews)I bought a Samsung "Touch of Red" 46 inch LCD TV awhile back, intending for it to become my everything TV, for sports, XBOX and all around lounging. Having two kids though, quickly turned it into the Elmo's World TV in the living room and I was left with an old, 19" TV upstairs to play on. I bought this strictly for the man cave and think that it was a great buy. The size is perfect, Big enough to get full HD but not so large that it looks strange sitting on a desk. The picture quality is amazing, the colors are incredibly crisp and everything I have played on it looks exceptional. The 120 HZ, though not top of the line anymore, is still more than enough to make all but the most high speed games look great, with no blurring. It has 4 HDMI ports, so that I can hook both consoles up, along with a computer port, so I can have everything right at the desk.
Like the Samsung Series, LG planned ahead and made their TV internet capable. You have to buy the $80.00 wifi adapter, but once you do you have access to Netflix, youtube and a bunch of apps that can do many things. Great for me and wife trying to find something to watch on the weekend.
I looked around for a while before deciding on this TV. At Best Buy it was up against a Sony and a Samsung of similar price and size. The LG clearly had the better picture. I have no regrets about buying this and highly recommend it for anyone wanting a moderately sized, fully HD TV.

(More customer reviews)I've had this TV for just over 24 hours and so far I'm pleased. I chose the LG 5400 after visiting the local blue and yellow store as they were changing over their 2009 models to the 2010s. I was initially impressed by the Samsung LED LCDs and was getting close to buying the Samsung 7100 (7000 everywhere else with a red ToC vs. Grey at this store) when on my third trip to the store, they had just put the LG up on the wall. The picture stood out right away from the Samsungs and the Panasonic Plasma above it. The other decidng factor over the Samsung was the matte screen on the LG. The Samsungs have a high gloss screen just like a Plasma which is a problem for the room that I planned to put the TV in. It has multiple windows and lots of light so a high gloss screen would reflect way too much. As for the Pro's and Cons, here's what I have noticed so far:
Pro's: Picture quality with deep blacks and sharp contrast, picture adjustment wizard and ability to tweak it to the Nth degree including judder, sleek case appearance, internet widgets (haven't played with these too much yet so they might just be toys to brag about but, not too useful), Solid build
Cons: missing some features that others in the price range have like local dimming LEDs, PIP/POP, room light sensing, and a universal remote, 120hz instead of 240hz (not that I've noticed a problem yet).
Lastly, a note about mounting this TV on a wall; all of the permanent hook-ups are on the back surface (i.e not recessed into the case) so if you plan to use a low profile mount, you'll need right angle adapters for everything (HDMI, Component Video, VGA, etc). You'll need at least 1.75" of clearance from the back of the TV to the wall to get all your connections made. You'll also need to use a recessed outlet. I ended up scrapping the low profile mount and using a tilting mount that gave me 2.5" of clearance. Made life alot easier at the sacrifice of some sleekness on the wall. This shouldn't have been a big surprise given how thin the TV is but, I made the mistake. Oh well. After I've lived with this TV for a while longer I'll post an update but, so far so good.
UPDATE 1-11-11:
I've had this TV for about 10 months now and I'm still very pleased with it. I should note that I made a mistake in my original review under CONS wich was that this TV does NOT have room light sensing to dim the backlight. To the contrary, this TV DOES HAVE ROOM LIGHT SENSING. My mistake which I didn't notice until recently. There are only two observations that I can add since my original review and later comments: 1. One of the infrequent software updates seemed to have erased my custom picture and sound settings. 2. Occasionally the room light sensor gets tripped up in a dark room and ramps up the brightness then back to normal. The first observation was more of an annoyance and had only happened with one update. The second observation may be due to a software update or possibly something on my component stand below the TV throwing it off. I really don't know yet what causes this to happen but, it is infrequent and did not start to happen until several months after purchasing the TV. Otherwise, I'm still very happy with it and expect it to last a long time.
