(More customer reviews)My setup: HD antenna directly into the Panasonic's coax input, then connected via HDMI, coax and component cables to the back of my LCD panel (a Sharp LC37D62U, a 1080P panel with HDMI inputs).
The tuner in the Panasonic unit, while capable of receiving HD signals, cannot output a full HD signal, but only 480P. If you are looking for a unit to act as a full-on HD tuner, this unit is not for you, but if your TV already has an HD tuner, then this unit offers some cool features. Before I start though, I want to point out that the unit does "pass" a full HD signal - that is, when using my TV's own tuner with the Panasonic set to "TV" (on the "TV/VCR" selection), the TV receives a pass-through of the HD signal coming in over the air to the Panasonic. Other descriptions of this unit had me believing that it would pass-through a 480P signal, but this is fortunately not the case.
Cool Feature #1: Recording HD TV shows over the air. This is one of the first of a new generation of DVD recorders that can record an HD signal onto a DVD disc (although only at the lower 480P resolution). Despite the lower resolution, the picture looks great, obviously not full HD but far better than analog TV. I have recorded "Lost" and "House" and both shows look pretty good. While the unit appears to be able to record on every DVD format known, DVD-RAM format provides some advantages. Using a DVD-RAM disc and the HDMI connection to the TV, the TV switches automatically to a full wide screen picture. Setting the unit on its LP recording mode, I can record 4 hours of HD programs on one disc, and the sound is great.
Cool Feature #2: Chase play. After starting a program recording, you can start watching the recorded program before the entire recording is complete - skipping past commercials and so on until you catch up to the "live" point in the recording. This works only with DVD-RAM discs, but is pretty nifty. By the way, the DVD-RAM discs can (according to the Panasonic manual) be re-recorded up to 100,000 times, so they are ALMOST like having a hard drive in the unit.
Cool Feature #3: Disc navigator. This allows you to see all the programs recorded on a DVD disc on a single screen - you can then use this to select which recorded program you want to watch. Nifty! No more hunting through VCR tapes for the program you recorded you can't remember when...
The VCR output is also fine (although obviously much less impressive that the DVD output). I can't comment on its ability to output upscaled 1080P as compared to other DVD units with a similar feature, but the outlook looks pretty darn good to me, no noticable "jaggies".
Complaints: The auto-channel setup missed one of my local HD stations, instead tuning a secondary station being broadcast on the same signal. Annoying! There appears to be no way to manually select which channels are tuned by the unit. I have been meaning to call Panasonic about this, but haven't gotten around to it. Also, long-ish startup time (like 15 seconds). Sometimes the DVD output seems a little washed out, but this can be taken care of by re-adjusting the TV's color settings. Having to turn the unit off in order to have it launch a scheduled recording.
Overall, quite happy with the performance.
FYI, the first unit I bought (from Amazon) arrived DOA, but they were great about returning it and I had a new unit two days later. They even paid for the shipping to return the first unit. Nice!

(More customer reviews)Like all Toshiba TV's, the picture quality is top-notch. I compared this TV to a Samsung of similar size. Toshiba's color was a tad better than Samsung, but the Samsung was excellent also. Built in DVD player is a plus when space is limited for a separate player. We use this TV in our bedroom and the 26" size is perfect, almost bought Toshiba's similiar TV in 22" size, glad I picked went for the 26", bigger is always better...
Two gripes, you cannot tilt the TV downward. We have ours on a 5 drawer dresser and we have to look up to watch the TV when laying down in bed. If you do not tilt the TV downward the picture quality goes away, and I mean away, so dark you can't even watch it. I made a wedge out of some molding I had laying around to raise the rear of the TV so it tilts down. No having the screen tilt is a big mistake by Toshiba, the smaller screens sizes of this similar TV DO tilt, I cannot see why Toshiba did not use the same tilt feature in the 26" model. Very bad design for Toshiba on this one. The other gripe is the sound amplifier could be a tad stronger if the TV is used in a room other than a bedroom. The best bet would be a set of amplified speakers if the TV is used in a noisey enviroment. Yes I know you shouldn't have to go out and buy external speakers, but this is a common problem with ALL flat screen LCD TV's, there is not enough room for quality speakers in the thin case design.
Overall this a great TV for picture quality and the built in DVD player is a plus.
To solve the tilting problem, I would suggest mounting the TV on a wall with a wall mount that will enable you to tilt the TV to any desired position. I am thinking of doing that myself.
I would highly recommend this TV/DVD combo.
Additional comment: Wall mounting was simple and easy, but you do need 2 people of course to do this safely. Find at least one stud in your wall, the spacing of the mount does not allow you to screw the mount into two studs of course. Use winged Toggle Bolts for the side without the stud if mounting on sheet rock with a hollow wall behind the sheet rock. If stud mounting is not acceptable, the use of the winged Toggle Bolts can be used to attach the mount to the wall. Make sure your mount has full tilt capabilites of many degrees.

(More customer reviews)I have this unit plugged into a 55" Sony projection TV with an HDMI cable.
The up-converted picture is great; episodes of House are much sharper than with a progressive scan DVD player, Star Wars looks terrific, etc. No complaints on the picture quality at all. The unit is small and looks attractive. Some people have complained about a buggy firmware in these reviews, but I haven't noticed any bugs.
The best feature, besides the picture quality, is that you can turn off the unit while a DVD is playing, turn it back on later, and the player remembers where it was--no more pausing for hours or days (or dealing with the frustration of trying to "rewind" or "fast-forward" to where you were).
There are some drawbacks though. The number one issue is that the player is slow to respond to the remote commands. Pressing "power" on the remote takes a few seconds to turn off, and so I often press it again--which eventually turns the player back on. Menu, play, pause, etc. also lag just enough to make me wonder if the player got the command or not.
This wouldn't be so bad, except the remote/player combination is finicky about the angle of the remote to send a command successfully. I find I have to hold the remote at just the right angle (not directly pointing at the player!) for it to work. I guess the idea is that users want to hold the remote so that they can read the buttons, not aiming it at the player--neat, but I am using to aiming. This is extremely aggravating, so I am docking 2 stars for this.
Another annoyance is that when the player switches between layers on the DVD, there is a huge and obvious glitch in the video playback. My ancient JVC player didn't do this, nor have I seen this on el cheapo Zenith players.
But this player is cheap, small, and is a good value for passing the time until the HD-DVD/BluRay thing is resolved.

(More customer reviews)I have had this Toshiba 55SV670U for about one week. My decesion to pick this set over the Samsung 7100, Samsung 950, Sony XBR8 and LGH90 did not come without a carefull examination of the picture quality on all the sets. (I eliminated plasmas as they appeared rather dim to me.)

My desire was high brightness, sharpness and high contrast ratios. The weight and thickness was not that important as I only planned on moving this set once or twice. I will be looking at the picture more often than looking at the side view. This model Toshiba is now using a similiar front layer as Samsungs and it has improved the contrast ratio signifiantly. The blacks are much darker using this front material. I know it will reflect lights from behind me, but I'll block the window with a shade.... I would rather have that problem 10 % of the time than have the matte finish distort the picture 100 % of the time.The only way to improve contrast ratio is to locally dim. All the above do locally dim except the Samsung 7100. I questioned how the Samsung 7100 could have a single backlight and be able to make selected areas blacker. I found this Samsung set to have a slight blue hue over the whole picture. However, the Samsung 7100 would have been my second choice.
The Sony XBR8 and the Samsung 950 had the best pictures - just too expensive for the RGB backlighting and Just not worth
$ 1500 to $ 2000 more to me.


The Toshiba 55SV670U gave me the local dimming, an anti-reflective coated contrast window, 120 HZ scan rate and a bright long lasting LED display. I am completelty satisfied with this set.... and with and with its much lower selling price.
Drop in Mr and Mrs Smith in Blu Ray and you will ever regret purchasing this Toshiba

(More customer reviews)I know there have been a number of mixed reviews about this product, and it almost deterred me from selecting it when I was looking for a Blu-Ray player to go along with a Samsung 50" plasma HDTV I recently bought.
After having this player for a little over two weeks now, I can't be more happy with it. I wasn't sure how I was going to react to the unusual form factor, and I would not have originally thought about mounting a Blu-Ray player on my wall rather than keep it in a entertainment center, but it has worked out extremely well and I very much like having it wall-mounted for both access and use of the remote control.
The player has worked as smooth as silk and I have not had a single issue playing any DVD in my library, including titles burned on DVD-R and DVD+R disks.
I also really love the additional features of Netflix and Pandora and was amazed at the HD quality of the streamed Netflix titles.
I also like that with the wireless network access comes automatic firmware updates, which from I've been reading will prevent me from having to worry about newer Blu-Ray disk features from being usable.
I really have only two criticisms and one warning about this player.
I would really prefer it if the USB Wifi Dongle was positioned to be underneath the visible edges of the player. Having it stick out takes a bit away from the visual sex appeal of this player.
I will also say that they should issue one of these players to CSI graduate students for fingerprinting exercises. This thing is so sleek and shiny that you can spot fingerprints and smudges on it from a 10 feet away.
Lastly, if you are planning on putting this unit in a TV/Entertainment cabinet/housing, beware. Because it is a side-facing slot-loading player, you will not be easily able to load disks without turning the unit sideways each time. Fortunately for me, I enjoyed mounting it on my wall, but it would have been slightly annoying if I had had to stuff it in the new TV cabinet I bought at the same time.
Overall, I am thrilled with this unit and would easily recommend it to anyone looking for a leading-edge Blu-Ray player that will be a great home theater component for several years.

(More customer reviews)I have been researching on and off for almost 6 months trying to find the "perfect" tv that will fit my needs and my pocketbook. I have reviewed the technical details and the specifications of numerous tvs and had narrowed the search down to the Samsung LN46B630 and the Phillips 47 PFL6704D. I had decided on the Samsung and went to my local Sam's Club to buy it when the manager of the electronics area, told me they had a rash of returns on the Samsungs over the last month.
I had no reason not to switch as both units were at the top of my list, but after making my decision and purchasing the Phillips and using it for 10 days, I know I made the right decision.
Arriving home with the TV my wife assisted me in removing it from the box. This task is made very easy by the clever design of the box. It is a two person job. Do not try it by yourself as you are likely to tip it over and damage the TV. The next day, the Direct TV guy came and installed our dish and hooked up the tv. He hooked up the tv and couldn't believe the tv didn't appear to need any adjustment right out of the box. He also couldn't believe how effective the matte screen reduced the amount of reflection nearly to zero.
I have only had one LCD TV and that was a 26inch Vizio in my RV. It seemed to take forever to get that adjusted for acceptable color etc. The Phillips seemed to need no adjustment so I thought I would wait for a few days before making any adjustments. The PFL670 is a 120 Hz so one sees no "judder" and its 2 ms response time is so fast you don't have ANY lag time or jerky movements during fast action scenes. The colors are bright and vivid it kind of reminded me of when I got new glasses my entire world brightened up. So it is with the Phillips TV. I have a friend who is a TV tech at a national electronics store coming over tomorrow. He told me he will be glad to make any adjustments since they don't sell Phillips at his store. He wants to be able to compare it to the Samsung and other models they do sell. He was very skeptical that the set would be "IN TUNE" right out of the box. If possible, I will come back and make additions and corrections to this review when he has completed his "tune up". In summary, my wife and I are both pleased beyond belief that we found a TV that meets all our needs including the lack of reflections by the matte screen. We wish that all our decisions would work out this well.
I want to add, that I don't think it fair that people mark a TV up or down with delivery issues. The delivery has nothing to do with the product and it's performance. Delivery is a separate issue. I rate the Phillips soley on it performance and its specs. I try to compare it to other products and their specs. When a product does not meet its specs it should be downgraded in the review. In the case of this particular Phillips TV, in my opinion, this model meets or exceeds all the specs. The contrast issue of 50K to 1 with this model is reduced by the matt screen. If you have a glossy screen you will have a sharper black. However, with a matte screen and a setting with the potential for reflection, our living room with a walk thru patio door, we were more concerned with reflection than we were with sharper blacks. After all, 50K is right up there with the best of them regardless of the matte screen.

LG 47LD650 47-Inch 1080p 240Hz LCD HDTV, Black Review

(More customer reviews)Looked at TVs for 3 months before making a decision after my 42" Panasonic Plasma died with a maximum of $1500 to spend. My first idea was to buy a Plasma again but I think it died due to how hot my room would get because of it, then I moved on to the LED TVs and wasnt impressed with the picture quality when I compared it to these 3 TVs.
I dont want to write a few thousand words so I am basically going to put this in a real simple explanation.
If your considering buying an LED LCD please go look at this TV or Samsungs LN650 or Sony HX701 I guarantee it will make you think twice about purchasing an LED TV based on the picture quality alone.
So why did I purchase this over Samsungs LN650 and Sony HX701?
Well it has a higher contrast ratio (Same as Sony), the response time is 2ms (Samsungs LCD & LEDS are 4ms couldnt find Sonys), it has a 240hz refresh rate (Sony has 240hz, Samsung 120hz)
THE MAIN PROBLEM WHICH I READ ABOUT IS THE AUDIO/VISUAL LAG via HDMI connection in both the Sony and Samsung TV. I have had NO PROBLEMS AT ALL and YES I DO RUN THE TV THROUGH A RECEIVER! (ONKYO HTR557) Ive watched HD, SD, DVD, and played Xbox360 with no audio/visual lag! I did notice this problem on the Samsung in 1 store. Also the Sony Model is a Canadian Model which you will only find at Costco in the US.
CONCLUSION: One thing that bothered me was that I couldnt find much information about this TV online but usually people will be quick to speak up when something is wrong with a product. The main thing I can say is the picture quality on all 3 TVs are great in this order 1)LG 2)Sony 3) Samsung. I cant comment on the sound because I use a surround sound. I have no had any problems with uneven back lighting, clouding, or audio/ visual lag. The only pain about this TV is mounting it because LG expects you to purchase a VESA wall mount. In other words the screws that usually screwed into the back of a TV to mount it to a wall are not included. I did find out that it is an M6 screw in the manual but it doesnt say the length. I recommend a 1/2inch M6 screw just to be on the safe side. Hope this review helped!

A little update....so far the TV have been worth every penny spent. Been watching a lot of DVD's and HD & SD content, playing Xbox360 and watching netflix. Unfortunately I havent experimented with the netflix on the actual TV because my router has no more ports for the TV :( but I do play netflix through my Xbox and it does look great 98% of the time. Im having a hard time getting a good picture watching sports though but I figure it needs some adjustments to get it just how I want it *might just me being to picky* Everything else looks great. The Picture Wizard adjuster is pretty good and will give you the results you want...its not a professional calibration but it does what its supposed to do. The intelligent sensor option tends to always make the picture very dark so thats a downer but who really cares for something thats going to consistently adjust your picture due to how lit the room is. So other then what I wrote before about the manual not including or mentioning what kind of screws to use to mount this TV to the wall mount...I would say get a full motion wall mount because the viewing angles can be a little tough to get used too coming from watching a plasma TV.

Well nothing new. This TV works like a charm in every aspect. I recently re-modeled my house and had to take everything down except my TV but I did have to take down the surround sound so I had to use the TV's speakers...I gotta say the speakers in this TV can get very loud and stay completely distortion free. I bought the LG Wifi Dongle to access the widgets but it seemed that after the update it wont even load it...im sure its some sure its an easy fix but I havent gotten around to it as its not that big of a deal to me.

Another little update.....I got the widgets working, all I had to do was unplug the TV and hold the power button for 45seconds. When I turned it on they worked perfectly fine.

I am a convert form 30 years of owning SONY TVs. As with most of the new sets, they are weak in the sound arena unless you connect to an external sound system. I purchased the 19 inch LE for a small bedroom but may end up using it in the kitchen. Again, outstaning picture!

I bought this TV because I thought that it had very good specs for the price. But, the picture really isn't that great. Given the specs, I think that it must be a software problem, and I'm guessing that it is a likely problem with all large screen LGs. The settings out of the box for normal HD programming (I have FiOS and put the set-top box settings at 1080i because that is what the TV handles best and is the highest resolution setting available from my cable provider, as 1080p is not an option) were really terrible. Watching football was originally a borderline nightmare due to the pixelation that was very difficult to get rid of with the wider field shots.
To LG's credit, it does allow the user a lot of options to calibrate the picture. I believe that I have my set optimized, and my settings are vastly better than the default settings innate with the TV. But honestly, the picture still occasionally has a lot of pixelation, especially with lower quality HD feeds, which, unless you watch almost exclusively Blu-ray movies, is what the average person watches the most.
I consider myself a sophisticated user. This is my second 52" HD TV and my third HD TV brand. (I had to buy another 52" HDTV because my other one was a Samsung, which broke. (I have had two Samsungs, both were lemons and broke in less than two years' time. That is another story. But, if you want to get a Samsung, good luck.)) Because I'm thinking that the way this LG TV handles the lower quality HD feeds is a software problem, I'm hoping that LG fixes its pixelation issue for the lower quality feeds with a firmware update. (I also have the wireless dongle, which is the most convenient way to get firmware updates.) If it does, I will update this post. Until then, I can't endorse this TV. (Whoever at LG is creating the picture settings, please look at the field for an American football game. The dancing pixels are insane. I have messed with every setting imagineable and can't fix it.)
Also for those of us that also bought the wireless dongle and have a Netflix subscription, options to calibrate the picture become inexplicably limited when attempting to calibrate the picture for the instant watch movies. This has got to be a super-easy firmware fix for LG. I will also post whether LG corrects this issue. (Update: This is still a problem. Though LG just upgraded it's netflix interface to match the new PS3 upgrade, which is nice. I will say that having netflix and youtube available at a push of the button on the remote is really a nice feature of this TV.)
(New paragraph: This TV has some interesting software decisions on it. The options to calibrate the picture for normal TV viewing are a mile long, which on some level you need because the factory settings are so terrible. The TV comes with a picture wizard that is actually somehow counter productive, at least in my case, because my best picture came by ignoring most of the settings that I created from the picture wizard. The picture settings can't be adjusted when using the Youtube app. One decision that affects my enjoyment of the TV is that LG removes audio options when you plug devices into the headphone jack. I plug high quality computer speakers into that jack in order to have a subwoofer, but often the background sounds are too loud and speech too soft: both of these problems would be solved by a single setting in the audio options, which is available when my speakers are not plugged in.)
Finally, the apps available with the wireless dongle are VERY limited. I hope that LG plans on adding more to justify purchase of the seperate dongle. The dongle accesses firmware updates and five apps: instant watch Netflix, Vudu (instant HD rentals), youtube, Picasa, and one other app that I forget because I don't use it.
(Update and clarification: Overall, I like this TV, but I don't love it due to the aforementioned issues (i.e., software decisions and handling of lower quality, high-definition feeds). I feel like I get a lot out of this TV as the focal point of my media set up. I have my HDMI slots taken up with (1) my set-top box, (2) blu-ray player, (3) Xbox 360, and (4) Desktop hard drive. When you add in the Netflix and Youtube apps that are instantly available at a touch of a button on the remote, I feel like it has all of the features needed to be the focal piece of my media center. It also handles high, high-definition very well, so watching Blu-rays and playing Xbox 360 look as beautiful as they should.)

(More customer reviews)Purchased from Amazon. White glove delivery was seamless. They unpacked the set, attached the swivel stand, placed it on the media console and hooked it up to the cablebox. All I had to do was supervise. Now let's talk about the 55LD650 itself.
Picture Quality. Considering there are no reviews out yet, I considered it somewhat of a gamble to purchase this new LG model (which according to the sticker was built in February of this year). But after watching HD programing for a few hours, my concerns evaporated. The picture quality is impressive. This is my first LCD. I've always been a plasma guy and have two Pannys, so I had my concerns. Howver, after watching Monsters vs Aliens, I definitely have no complaints about the PQ. The images on the 55 inch screen popped beautifully. So much so that my kids even asked if it was in 3D!
Off-Angle Viewing. Viewing the TV from various angles (even extreme ones), I can confirm that this set did not have any noticeable degradation in picture quality from off-angle viewing(unlike some Sonys I looked at). Very impressive.
Glare. This was the main reason I sought out an LCD set, since the TV resides in a very bright room with two sides of floor-to-ceiling windows. This eliminated the plasma option (though we first tried a Sammy plasma and aside from the mirror-like glare, we couldn't handle the loud buzzing noise it made). While there's some glare on this TV when it's not on, there was nothing noticeable on the matte sceen when watching programs.
All in all, I'm very pleased with 55ld650 thus far.

(More customer reviews)While this is my first HD TV, I have been looking at them for a while. I have had trouble justifying replacing a perfectly good 27" Sony. However, now that the networks are moving actual content into the bars that fall outside the range of what my SD Sony can display, I finally got tired of missing 1/3 of the show and decided it was time to upgrade.
I am a Netflix subscriber, and I have been using PLEX to stream Netflix content onto my TV as well as to stream other video content stored on my Mac to my TV. It works very well, but it is a little kludgey since I still want to be able to use the Mac wile using it to serve Video content to Plex. (The TV acts as a second monitor.)
I was VERY concerned that I could find no reviews about this unit anywhere. It's just that new. I was especially concerned about how well the 'net connectivity worked. So, now that I have one, I thought I would write a review.
It's an LCD HD TV. Picture quality looks fine to me, but standing in the store, they all kind of start to look alike. I'm not a video quality expert, I would say that I could see a slight improvement on the LED TV's over LCD, but I don't think it's drastic enough to warrant $500-$1000 premium. I was more interested in spending extra to get that Ethernet port on the back.
So, how does it work? In a word: Amazing.
I hooked my HD cable box up and got that working, then I plugged it into my home network. It recognized that I had plugged it in, and it DHCP'ed an address off and connected without any problems. I hit the Netcast button, and got my choice of Yahoo Widgets (There is also a Widgets button on the remote) Netflix, VuDu, YouTube and Picasa. I clicked Netflix, prepared to have to painstakingly enter my Netflix login and password using the arrow keys on the remote and a virtual keyboard. I was pleasantly surprised when it presented a URL for me to go to (on my computer) along with a code to enter. I went there (it was a Netflix URL) on a computer that was already logged into Netflix. I entered the code and BAM! my instant watch queue showed up. You can't browse movies here, just your instant watch queue. Put movies in the queue on your computer, and they show up here. Select a movie and after a few seconds, it just starts playing. You can skip forward and back and it shows the thumbnails very much like it does on the computer. It works great.
The Netflix video quality was good, but VuDu was Spectacular. They call it near BluRay, and considering it is streaming real-time over the Internet, it looks really nice. I have only watched a few short sample clips from New Moon, but it was impressive. You get a free rental to sign up, and I'm looking forward to trying it out.
I haven't done Picasa or YouTube yet, but I'm guessing those are just as easy. The TV came with a Windows-only Nero MediaHome Essentials 4. Since I don't have a Windows box, I can't load this. I'm assuming this is what LG expects you to use to access content directly from your PC. I did a little Googling and downloaded a trial of Twonky Media. A cross-platform DLNA server. Loaded it up, set up my directories for my content, hit menu on the remote and chose "My Media" and BAM! again! There were the files on my Mac. I streamed a couple of shows for a few seconds. Fast forward, rewind, it just works. It's amazing. I'm not sure I'm even going to bother hooking my Mac directly to my TV (who am I kidding, of course I will, because I can... but I doubt I'll actually use it much).
Yahoo Widgets work as you would expect. They pop up on the bottom of the screen kind of like the Dock in OS X or Windows 7 and you can scroll through them and select them to have them pop up a window. You can have the window pop up over the picture, or you can have the picture shrink down so you can still see it all. I haven't really played with them that much. There are several widgets to choose from, but my computer is very close to my TV, so I'm not sure how much I will use them on the TV.
Late last year, I got a Droid wireless phone with Internet, now I have a TV that, while it doesn't have a Web Browser (who wants to do that anyway), it DOES have Internet connectivity. I'm pretty sure I want ALL of my future purchases to have Internet Connectivity. (Buying my new Dishwasher may be problematic...)

(More customer reviews)Buying this Philips makes me feel like a bit of a pioneer; there are no reviews of this fairly new set ... at least any I could find.
Compared to other 32-inchers, the specs on the 32PFL6704D/F7 (who names these things?) are pretty impressive given its price-point: 1080p, 120hz and a 2ms response time. Costco prices it at $599 -- about $200 below the MSRP, and about $100 below Dell and Amazon. (Put these specs on a Sony or Samsung and you'll pay about $900, even at the online discounters.)
Setup was breezy, and the side-by-side picture quality tool that confronts you on the first boot-up seems pretty handy. You're asked to pick a side of the TV that looks the best, and through a series of 5 or 6 screens the TV determines your preferences. It could be a gimmick, though, because there's the usual array of color, sharpness, tint and other tweaks in the options menu.
It took about two minutes for the internal tuner to snap up all the HD-broadcasting stations in the Kansas City area using a simple set of rabbit ears. It was pretty astounding to see a decidedly low-tech antenna deliver HD content and end-run all the hype about needing an HD-capable digital-tier from your cable monopoly. I'm only getting the local affiliates, mind you, but still. (Of course, most HDTVs do this these days, so it's not really something that makes this model stand out.)
The picture is fantastic. Colors are crisp, fast-motion sports and gaming are smooth, and I notice the difference between the 120hz refresh rate and the 60hz on other sets. I think I understand why 1080p is lost on a TV this small, but for the price I did well to get it, and I suspect I'll notice a difference when I load up a Blu-ray disc.
Standard-def: I was pleasantly surprised that the set did a reasonable job with my SD Tivo. I mean, yeah, it's a comparatively bad picture, but it's watchable. I think many reviewers who hate on their HDTV's ability to process SD content go a little overboard. (Or, maybe I'm just good at managing my expectations.)
Gaming: The Xbox 360 looks stunning. No discernable lag. It's that simple.
Sound: Read any review of Samsung, Sony, LG or other brands and you'll get complaint after complaint about speaker quality. Flat-panel sets just aren't big enough to house quality speakers. And out of the box, the Philips defaults to the worst of two sound settings. I forget what it's called, but I changed it to the better setting, and it sure was a lot closer to the overcooked "incredible surround" promoted by Philips. It's not incredible, and they know it, and you shouldn't expect 5.1 or even 2.1 -- but the on-board sound is no slouch. I can even pick up a bit of faux-surround, and the settings include an equalizer that you can use to tweak the highs and lows. Overall, I'm pleased.
I'll try to update this in the coming weeks. But these are my initial impressions, and I hope it helps others who've been waiting for a review on this one.

LG INFINIA 50PK750 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV Review

(More customer reviews)This is one of the Best TVs available on the market, especially considering it's price. I've had this TV for about a week now and have nothing major to complain. I was nervous getting a plasma TV due issues like glare, buzz, weight, form factor, ghosting, burn-in etc. But this TV proved to live out most of the disadvantages of plasmas.
Pros:
1. Color Accuracy - Color accuracy great without even tweaking any calibration settings. I like the THX cinema mode the best.
2. Slick - The TV has a slim form factor and the uniform glass top (Bezel does not pop out of the screen). We absolutely love it's looks.
3. DLNA - This is the first TV I owned with DLNA capability. I installed the Nero Home media essentials that came with this TV, on my laptop and I was able to watch photos and videos that are on my laptop, in no time. The video quality also feels upscaled and close to HD.
4. Plug and Play USB - I connected my USB hard drive and instantly there is a prompt on the TV to play videos, music and photos.
5. Netcast and Widgets - The TV comes with Netflix, Youtube, Vudu, Picasa widgets and it also supports the Yahoo widget gallery. I haven't yet tried Netflix or Vudu. But Youtube and Picasa were really good. The picture quality of the youtube videos was not great, but it really is a matter of the video itself, but not the TV. Yahoo widgets were good too. I especially use the Twitter widget a lot.
6. Games - The TV came with some games pre-installed. I haven't explored this feature much. But I tried Sudoku and it was simple to use.
7. No Buzz - Since I read in one of the earlier reviews about the buzz sound, I tried hard to hear it from my typical viewing distance (about 10ft) and I heard nothing.
8. Ease of use - The menus and features are very easy to navigate and operate.
9. Remote - The remote is really slick and with big keys and very easy to operate. Also has decent short cuts to most of the frequently used features.
Cons:
1. Black Levels - Black levels are not as dark as I'd hoped for, in a Plasma. In fact in some cases I tend to think they are not even on par with some of the latest better performing Sony and Samsung LCDs. I was a little disappointed with this. But hey, you get what you pay for..!
2. Glare - Like any other plasma TV, this TV produces a bit of glare. But this is much better compared to a lot of other plasmas I've seen and in most cases you wouldn't really notice it unless you are looking for it.
3. PIP/POP - I'd hoped that a 2010 TV comes with the basic PIP/POP features. But seems like this TV does not have it. It's not a deal breaker for me though.
4. Zoom - The picture zoom feature is a little cumbersome.
5. Typing - Netcast widgets use the number pad for typing. But Yahoo widgets (twitter) rely on the visual keyboard and entering each alphabet takes a lot of strokes. I wish LG offered a remote with QWERTY keyboard, something similar to the one that comes with Vizio VF552XVT.
6. Video format compatibility - I tried playing several videos of different formats - divx, divx HD, mpeg, mp4, wmv, avi etc. It was able to handle all formats. But within a given format some videos were not recognized (videos that I have are, even though of the same format, are different in bit rate, compression, resolution etc). Sometimes it does not recognize the audio. I wish LG comes up with a firmware update to expand it's support.
One feature I haven't tried is the wireless connectivity. This TV is both WiFi ready and Wireless 1080p ready. But both of these optional accessories which I do not currently have.
I haven't played around with a lot of picture settings yet (Mostly, because I didn't need to). But as I explore more, I shall come back to update this post.
This may not be the best TV on market. But for a little over 1000 bucks, you can not go wrong with this TV, especially if you are not a videophile and picky about deep black levels.

(More customer reviews)I have only had it a week and it is my first HD TV and I think it is great. I bought it for the bedroom and watch it from about 12 feet away and the screen size in my opinion is perfect. I can see all the detail but the set is not so large as to be obtrusive.
Picture quality is excellent for over the air channels using a coax cable to an external antenna that is in the attic. Sound is good and I think the Energy Star rating is a plus. There is a option to enhance the frequencies of the human voice so I can better understand what is being said. I think this really works.
I had a gift card for Fry's so I did not buy from Amazon this time but I did research other brands and sizes here. Like I said this is my first HD but I have looked at a ton of them at Best Buy and Costco. I cannot remember seing another set that had a better picture but I haven't really seen too many of the smaller screen sizes. It may just look better because it is small but I cannot imagine what 1080 would give you over the 720 it has. The LED may have something to do with it as well. I have seen no motion blur or ghosting and it is 60hz refresh rate.

But...... I've had continuing problems with an intermittent picture and sound problem. My local cable provider did extensive diagnosis of the cable signal and it's more than OK, so I should not be getting this. Trying two other TV's connected to the same cable outlet have no problem. Dealing with LG's customer service has been an abysmal experience. I'm sending it back for warranty service for a 4th (!) time today. I keep sending it in and they either do nothing (can't reproduce the problem) or make some component change out. But it's still not working right and I get virtually zero feedback except details of what they can't do for me..
