I am really enjoying the tv screen protector you can not even tell that it is on the tv even when you know that it is there, I just wish that the companies that make the tvs would give some sort of clue about the fact that the covers even exist, I wish I would have known with the first tv (but it was broken by the little one)This is a fantastic product to have if you have children in the house at all. I am now actually able to relax even when the 5 year old is in the living room watching tv alone
The product was fairly easy to install it did take two people but I belive that was due to the size of the tv. When getting ready to install and removing the film off the screen protector make sure to have on a hard clean surface the carpet it not such a good idea it creates a lot of static and any little thing that is on the carpet is now on the screen protector and it is a chore to get it back off.
Highly recommend:)

This story, like many others on this board, have striking similarities to each other.1. I buy an expensive new media center toy...
2. I experience buzzing from my speakers with the new device installed...
3. Call the cable company after tracing the buzzing sound to a poorly grounded CATV line (house is properly grounded too)...
4. Cable guy comes out and finds no problem even though he can hear the buzz as I plug in and unplug the coax...
5. Cable guy says TV has to be up pretty loud to hear buzzing, blames problem on TV...
6. I go into GTFO of my house mode... (important step)
7. Buy Viewsonics VSIS-EU CATV Ground Loop Isolator...
8. Plug in isolator...problem solved...no more buzz....
9. Post wonderful review for this product, immediately...

When two or more devices are connected to a common ground through different paths, ground path noise or a ground loop can occur. This is actually quite common in home theater systems, even those that are well designed. The result of a ground loop is audio hum and/or horizontal bars in the TV picture. Disconnecting coaxial connections between components eliminates the hum or interference. If "beefing up" conventional ground connections and establishing solid ground points in your cable system does not resolve these problems, then a CableTVamps Ground Isolator is the most reliable way to fix it.

Sony DVP-NS710H/B 1080p Upscaling DVD Player, Black Review

Sony DVP-NS710H/B 1080p Upscaling DVD Player, Black

This DVD player does an excellent job of upconverting in my opinion. I also have a far more expensive Oppo DVD player and I would say they are on par.
One 'feature' I dislike about these DVD players is in the manufacturer's quest to make the box look sleek and simple, there are only a couple of buttons: open/close, play and stop (aside from the power button). Why, oh why, do manufacturers not put skip or fast-forward buttons on the box? Is this to force us to buy new remote controls when the kids make them disappear? I just don't like the idea that a piece of equipment become less functional without the sometimes elusive remote control.
Still, it does provide a beautiful picture, very sharp and one I believe almost maximizes the contrast, color and clarity provided by our expensive plasma tv.
A very good value when considering the quality for the price point.

I bought this system at Costco after reading good reviews for the BT230. I was also impressed with the sound of the system at Costco, compared to the other displays. But after setting it up, several problems arose.
The good:
-Excellent sound
-Sleek design. My wife was a little put off by the tall boy speakers but tolerated them.
-Online content. Access to YouTube, netflix, etc.
The bad:
-Blu-ray player has problems. It was not able to play Baraka without locking up and rebooting. I thought it might be a problem with the disc, but I cleaned it and saw no scratches, and still the same problem. I read that Baraka has some of the most data-rich graphics, and the player always jammed up on very busy scenes with lots of movement and sound, like the panoramic views of waterfalls with roaring sound. This leads me to believe the blu-Ray player cannot handle it.
-Unit shuts down in the middle of movies, radio, etc. This has consistently happened - the unit just powers off automatically in the middle of a movie or while listening to the radio. Very frustrating.
-No wireless compatibility. Before I bought it I read that some of the panasonic systems have an upgrade for wireless rear speakers, but after contacting support, it does not work with this system. And the wires are way too short for stretching across any but the smallest of rooms.
That's too many bads for me, so I'm returning it to Costco today.
**Update: I got the Sony home theater, and Baraka (the exact same disk) played just fine. So there was a problem with the Panasonic blu-ray player handling the data load. And that was after updating the firmware.

SVA HD4208TIII-PDP 42-Inch Flat-Panel Plasma EDTV Review

SVA HD4208TIII-PDP 42-Inch Flat-Panel Plasma EDTV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recently bought this tv acouple days ago. I had been wanting a plasma screen television for quite some time, and when I seen the price of this for alittle bit under $2,000 in a local advertisement I had to take a look at it.
When I went there I was quite impressed with it, visually it looked great, the design of the case and the picture quality itself. I asked the sales person alot of question but he didn't really know too much about it so it made me question the integrity of SVA, a brand which I had never heard of at the time.
I went online to try and find some reviews and information about it, but could only find these same reviews below on abunch of other websites, which didn't really help at all since you have 2 people saying they like it, and 1 person that posted twice about how it sucks and not explaining a reason why. After abit more research I read that the picture tube is made from a Samsung picture tube. I heard of this before where other companies like Dell import pieces of plasma screen tvs and construct them in one of their factories to keep the price down.
After visiting the store again, this time with my brother to decide on final purchase, me and him went over all of their plasma tvs and gave them our own bare eye inspection. Both of us thought that the SVA had a great picture quality compared to all of the other plasma screen tvs they had on display, and in alot of cases it looked even better than alot of the tvs on display.
When I bought it, the only thing that was bad was the stand was broken on it (which we recieved another stand) and for being a plasma screen tv and how thin it is, it is very heavy. The other thing is that it has no controls on the tv itself, there is no volume, channel, video select or even a television power on! (Although there is a main power turn on/off) So if your remote control breaks (and you don't have a universal remote programmed for it) it sounds like you'll have to order a new remote.
I read from a different review that someone was having problems with the remote control and that it had a "mind of its own". I haven't came across this problem at all, either that person had a faulty remote control, or was talking nonsense.
But still, like I mentioned before, I have recently bought this plasma tv, I haven't had any problems with it yet, and I had been looking up information about preventing burn-ins since I hear it plagues plasma tv's and I play alot of video games and intend to use it as a pc monitor as well.
Also another nice addition was that included ALL the hook ups you need. I am not sure about the exact amount of cords, but it include acouple of the same ones like 2 a/v cords, 2 normal left/right audio cords, 1 component, 1 s-video, 1 pc cord, 1 pc to component (which is really cool), 1 analog(?) cable, and 1 audio (you know like a head phone jack) to left/right audio cord. I thought that this was very cool since alot of tvs I had bought and other people bought didn't include, or only included maybe 1 or 2 cords.
I gave this a rating of 4 because like I said, I had just recently purchased this tv and still am testing it out. I wrote this review to help people get alittle bit more knowledge about this tv since I couldn't find much help about it online either. My biggest suggestion for anyone interested in this tv is to go to a store and take a look at it and compare it to other plasma tv's, make sure to check for burn ins and everything. When I was checking it out at the store they did not have the audio set up, only the picture cables were hooked up, when I got it home and tested out the audio, I was quite surprised at the quality of it since I heard alot of plasma screens with speakers didn't give good quality. But still I run all my audio through my reciever for surround sound, which the majority of people that purchase plasma tv's do as well, so you wont be worrying much about the audio on this... which I believe by looking at it, it has 4 sets of speakers, I could be wrong... but it did give off some nice sound for when I was testing it out.

Once demanding tens of thousands of dollars, gas-plasma flat-panel displays have entered the realm of current real-world HDTV prices. One such newly affordable plasma display is SVA's widescreen HD4208TIII, a 42-inch set using a Samsung plasma screen with 852 x 480 native pixel resolution. The set gives you true EDTV (480p, progressive-scan) resolution as well as inputs compatible with full-resolution 720p and 1080i HDTV signals (optional set-top box decoder/receiver required) as well as analog PC signals up to 1,600 x 1,200 through a VGA input.A plasma screen gives you vivid colors like you've never seen before, extremely wide viewing angles (wider, even, than those of most LCD screens), and easy placement due to a plasma monitor's slim profile--the HD4208TIII is a mere 3.9 inches deep, perfect for desk or wall mounting. Brightness tends to be extremely uniform across plasma screens, which are also impervious to the picture distortion and negative color balances that afflict CRT monitors when placed near lighting or sound systems. The HD4208TIII offers 160-degree viewing angles, high 700:1 contrast, and typically luminous 600 cd/m2 brightness. On this display, SVA uses a dissymmetrical unit structure from Samsung for the optical elements, which greatly improves tricolor illumination balance over previous models. Moreover, the set's advanced plasma AI system can automatically increase the discharge frequency on gray and dark scenes to precisely control brightness levels. Thus, images become clearer, more natural, and generally more vivid. The set also features a pure-black driving system to enhance black-level regeneration and pure-gamma rectifying technology, which produces 1,024 gray levels for extremely detailed home theater viewing. The 24-bit real-color display can realize 16.7 million colors with good reducibility.SVA's 72 Hz line-by-line scanning technology thoroughly eliminates any flickering of 60 Hz NTSC TV pictures. And, unlike many plasma sets, the HD4208TIII doesn't need an RF commutator between it and your cable box; you'll be able to enjoy pristine, high-contrast cable images (at standard cable resolution) right out of the box. The unit's stereo speakers are powered by a generous 12 watts per channel.Inputs consist of the above-mentioned VGA computer input, one each composite, S-video, RF (for antenna or VCR/cable box signal), and HD component-video, and four accompanying stereo analog (left/right) RCA inputs for your associated source components (DTV set-top box, satellite receiver, PVR, VCR, DVD player, etc.). An composite-video based audio/video output lets you feed an SD (standard-definition) interlaced video signal to a PVR or VCR.

Samsung SyncMaster 275T+ 27-inch LCD Monitor Review

Samsung SyncMaster 275T+ 27-inch LCD Monitor
Average Reviews:

The vital consideration for a monitor is the relation between diagonal measurement of size and the number of pixels on the screen--neither one alone is enough. I've found this 27-inch monitor to be perfect for 1920 x 1200 (from a ThinkPad T61p with digital connection). A display this size needs to be further away from the eyes to see everything; I find about 30 inches from my face to be comfortable. At this distance both the Windows UI and webpage defaults produce type which is easy to read and still gets a lot of content onscreen at once. In Word, for example, it is very easy to edit two documents side by side seeing all of both full pages at the same time. In a browser it is easy to see two webpages side by side.

Samsung DVD-P241 Progressive-Scan DVD Player Review

Samsung DVD-P241 Progressive-Scan DVD Player
Average Reviews:

i was looking for a good, but cheap DVD player that i could use in my young son's room. There are a lot of no-name DVD players out there for a bit cheaper price but I guess I am still leery of buying anything with a name I don't recognize.
This Samsung player seems to be just the ticket. It's got a few more bells and whistles than you'd think in a player for around $50 bucks indlucing the EZ view letter box eliminator for small screen TVs, distortion reduction, and can play MP3's and Kodak picture CDs.
But I mainly got it because it's easy to use and cheap so if my young one does anything to it it's easily replaceable. Not a machine for your high-end TV but certainly capable of doing the job.

Samsung's DVD-P241 features high-end progressive-scan component-video outputs, built-in MP3 decoding for your home-brewed CD compilations, and even compatibility with JPEG image CDs and Kodak Picture CDs. Now you can enjoy a slideshow of your digital pictures right on your television.Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the DVD-P241 stands ready to deliver the full potential of your DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. The DVD-P241 also performs 3:2 pulldown. DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24-frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture. Another handy feature is the player's EZ View letterbox eliminator, which lets you enjoy full-screen pictures on 4:3 aspect-ratio TVs--even when you're watching widescreen DVDs.A set of left/right analog-audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio output for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. Composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television. What's in the Box DVD player, remote control, remote batteries, user's manual, stereo analog audio interconnect/composite-video cable, and warranty information.

Samsung DVD-HD841 Up-Converting DVD Player Review

Samsung DVD-HD841 Up-Converting DVD Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I very rarely write a negative review, but this player is so bad, I felt compelled to write this. I just don't want anyone else to waste their money on this unit like I did.
I have 4 DVD players (accumulated over several years) in addition to the Samsung DVD-HD841: a Sony DVP-NS700 (old, but great progressive scan), Pioneer DVD-563A (universal SACD/DVD-A, prog. scan), and the Toshiba SD-5970 (HDMI, 720P/1080i upconversion), an XBox with the DVD dongle (480i only).
I'm not joking when I say the Samsung is by far the worst player (in every way) that I have ever owned. Here's why:
1. DVI output (any resolution) is terrible. No shadow detail regardless of the brightness setting on my high-def front projector (projecting onto 92" screen). Horribly soft picture which results in very little detail, like looking at the image through a steamed up lens. The DVI output is actually the worst video connection on this unit, and yet most people will buy this unit (as I did) to experience the 720p/1080i upconversion. The Toshiba unit's HDMI video output is wonderful and shows how upconversion should be handled!
2. The Samsung keeps skipping audio when playing DTS soundtracks. I thought it was a dirty disc at first, but this happens with every single disc, regardless of how I clean them, and none of my other players have this issue.
3. Really bad response to the remote control, and limited angle of control. It's tough operating this player as it is slow to respond to its remote control and you really have to point it at the unit.
4. Forgettable sound quality with SACDs and DVD-As - the Pioneer is much better (and it's cheaper too!).
5. As documented by several Amazon.com reviewers (and elsewhere on the internet), the Samsung forgets its settings each time it's turned off, so you have to re-configure its DVI, Dolby and DTS settings all over again. Such a pain.
My advice to you is please do not buy this unit, and save yourself the money! If you're looking for DVI or HDMI 720p/1080i video upconversion, go with one of the other players with this feature that have great reviews (e.g. the Toshiba, Panasonic, Sony, Denon). If you're looking for a DVD player which plays SACDs and DVD-As, there are now many low-cost alternatives too.
I can't believe Samsung could release such a poor product.

Samsung's DVD-HD841 delivers scintillating video and audio performance at an eye-popping price. Between the unit's progressive-scan component-video and DVI digital-video outputs, sophisticated high-definition upconversion (from 480i/p DVD-Video to 720p, 768p, or 1080i, depending on your HDTV), and processing abilities for the audio-only SACD (Super Audio CD) and DVD-Audio formats, this player quite nearly does it all.
Samsung's video upconversion technology eliminates visible scan lines and artifacts arising from interlaced video and the 3:2 pulldown process required to render film-based movies as NTSC video. The result: higher resolution from conventional sources and sharper images with few motion artifacts. The player's DVI digital-video output may be used for lossless video transmission between the player and compatible TVs and computer monitors.
Superior Sound SACD and DVD-Audio media both offer super-high-fidelity sound. DVD-Audio discs provide 192 kHz/24-bit multichannel and stereo sound, high storage capacity, and unique bonus materials not available on regular audio CDs. These discs often have compressed Dolby Digital soundtracks for listening on standard DVD players, but true DVD-A decoding is required for full sonic appreciation. Depending on the disc, Sony's proprietary SACD format provides multichannel and/or stereo sound, often presented in a dual-layer format compatible with both standard CD players (at standard resolution) and SACD-equipped players like the DVD-HD841 (for full-resolution playback).
As an antipiracy measure, the DVD-HD841 performs its own decoding of both DVD-Audio and SACD signals, passing high-resolution analog, not digital, audio to your integrated amplifier or surround receiver. This means you'll need an audio/video receiver with multichannel analog-audio inputs to appreciate multichannel DVD-A and SACD releases.
A set of stereo and a set of multichannel analog-audio outputs route audio from DVD-A/SACD media as well as from Dolby Digital- and DTS-encoded DVDs to your AV receiver. If you're not planning to use the DVD-A/SACD capability for multichannel programming, both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio outputs (one each of RCA coaxial and Toslink optical) for simpler connection with your receiver.
Another handy feature is the player's EZ View letterbox eliminator, which lets you enjoy full-screen pictures on 4:3 aspect-ratio TVs--even when you're watching widescreen DVDs. Composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television.

Toshiba 72HM195 72-Inch Diagonal Theaterwide Integrated (1080p) HD DLP Rear Projection TV
Average Reviews:

Ive had the set about 1 week, and bought it after careful research.
It is certainaly the best dollar per 1080p inch available. I am very happy with the size, look, interfaces, and picture quality. I have since found out although it can display 1080p content, it cannot receive 1080p content, only 1080i as a max. Not a big deal now as there is no 1080p content, but could be an issue when HD-DVDs come out. Apparently only the HP DLP sets can receive 1080p, not Toshiba, Samsung, nor Mitsubishi.
I was very happy with buying from Amazon; no tax, low ship fee, and it was white glove delivered right into my great room, all within 5 days of purchase.

Get the sharpest and clearest images possible from HD and standard TV and your favorite DVD movies with the 72-inch Toshiba 72HM195 DLP rear-projection television, which offers both 1080p and 720p progressive resolution. As 720p is rated as high-definition, Toshiba has dubbed this TheaterWide TV XHD--2X Resolution, as its 1080p rating has twice the pixel count of 720. This set is loaded with the latest in video and audio processing technology as well as loaded with a wide variety of connectivity options, including Firewire and a multi-format memory card slot.
DLP (which stands for Digital Light Processing) uses an optical semiconductor to recreatesource material with a fidelity analog systems can't match. While other technologies lose a certain amount of light in transit, the microscopic mirrors in a DLP projection system bring more light from lamp to screen. It also features better color uniformity over time--no burn-in, screen aging or color-shifting possible. It's the leading display technology for products like small portable conference room projectors and professional venue entertainment systems.
The technology at the center of the 62HM95 is the new Toshiba Digital Light Engine named Talen X, which utilizes Texas Instruments' xHD4 chip, advanced optics, and Toshiba's DEEP Picture and Xtreme BLAC technologies to provide high resolution with improved brightness and contrast. It also includes the new PixelPure AT Digital Video Processing, utilizing new Adaptive Technology to create further improved picture quality, the new Radiance 150 Hi-Bright Lamp for noticeably brighter images and a TheaterFine DFP Screen with anti-glare coating that results in increased detail and noticeably deeper blacks.
A 3D Y/C comb filter (4 MB, 10-bit with Vertical Contour Correction) further enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt). The CableClear feature utilizes the Digital 3D/YC Comb Filter to compare frames and determine the existence and extent of video noise. It then applies the needed amount of digital video noise reduction, and the appropriate sharpness adjustment to keep the picture clear. This feature now works on RF, composite and S-Video inputs, and can be selected by input.
The HD Dynamic Contrast feature increases contrast and color saturation to create deep, rich images. The intelligent circuitry analyzes both the dark and bright areas of the picture, and separately optimizes the dynamic range in each area of the picture. Toshiba's PixelPure AT (Adaptive Technology) includes Motion Adaptive De-Interlacing, Adaptive MPEG Processing, Adaptive Contrast Enhancement, and Adaptive Color Enhancement--all critical elements to deliver a consistently high quality picture.
With the integrated ATSC tuner, you'll be able to receive off-air high definition broadcasts without the need for an external set-top box. It also features a digital cable tuner (QAM), which allows for the reception of digital cable signals that are not scrambled. It also incorporates a CableCard slot for optional card, which can pick up HD (ATSC) broadcasts from your digital cable provider (digital cable subscription required). The integrated TV Guide on-screen guide provides an easy to read listing of the television programs available to view or record. It includes an 8-day program listing, the ability to perform keyword searches for locating favorite programs, and the G-Link IR Blaster for controlling cable boxes.
The speakers provide a total of 20 watts of power (20 watts per channel). The SRS WOW virtual surround sound system provides amazing, enveloping sound through just the two built-in speakers. It also provides MTS stereo/SAP with dbx. The StableSound feature eliminates the annoyance of normal program volume being followed immediately by extremely loud commercial messages or drastic volume fluctuations while changing channels.
It offers the following connection options:
Composite AV (RCA): 3 in (1 side), 1 out
S-Video: 3 in (1 side)
Component video: 2 in (480i/480p/720p)
HDMI: 1 in
RF: 2 in
Firewire (IEEE1394): 2 in
Analog audio (RCA, L/R): 1 out

The OmniViewer memory card slot accepts five different types of memory cards, including SD (Secure Digital), MM (Multi-Media), MS (Memory Stick), CF (Compact Flash), and SM (Smart Media). In addition, it includes a JPEG Viewer program that allows the TV to display pictures from most digital cameras, which can be rotated and viewed in an automatic presentation format. The TheaterNet Control System simplifies the control of external components through both an IR jack and Firewire (IEEE1394) port, the latter of which can be used to transmit digital video and audio and allow for recording of HDTV.
Convenience features include color temperature control, closed captioning on mute, sleep timer, tri-lingual on-screen display, V-Chip parental controls, video input labelling, channel labeling, and Toshiba's GameTimer feature, which allows parents to set the television to shut off after a specified period of time and stay off until a lockout key code is entered.

Viore PLC10V49 10.2-Inch Portable Widescreen LCD TV, Black Review

Viore PLC10V49 10.2-Inch Portable Widescreen LCD TV, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Most of these reviews are specific to each individual's use and hookup.
Here is my input, after comparing to a similar 10.2" Haier HLT10:
1) Regarding the other review on the audio, you can't expect much from 1"
speakers. This Viore was better (clearer sound) than the Haier HLT10.
2) Picture was great on either model, but that's usually the case when the
screen is so small. It's like saying my 2" screen on digital camera
is great.
3) Regarding the Tuner operation in this Viore model, based on my hookup to
Cable which carries both digital and analog channels:
First off, both models have a NTSC/ATSC as well as QAM tuner which will
receive your off analog/digital/and cable digital channels. So for that
I gave 2 stars for having the QAM as well.
Second: The Viore is much less user friendly for channel setup than any
other TV I've seen. After scanning my analog/digital cable, it separates
the TV/DTV (analog/digital) channels in 2 menus rather than mix them all
together when changing channels. So before changing channels you need to
use the source menu to choose TV or DTV. Viore told me they do it this
way because they have 2 tuners. (But how does every other brand get
around this?)
My biggest complaint is you cannot skip the DTV channels, as the skip
is only for analog channels (which we don't care about any more). So
if you are flipping through channels and come across one channel which
has 80 sub-channels (like I have), you need to keep flipping 80 times
just to go to the next channel.
The alternative is not so useful either and you need to know the ch# you
want to go to. Ex: If you need to go to ch 105-1, you need to press:
1-0-5-(10+ key for the "dash") and also the ENTER key.
Ex: channel 82-4 is entered as 8-2-(10+ key for the "dash")-ENTER.
Again I called tech support and they agreed there is no way to skip
the DTV channels. They said it was designed to select channels using
the EPG instead. So I tried that, but it only displays the program
time slots for the CURRENT channel. So how do you get to the next channel? You flip through the CH+/- or use the arrows on remote and you're
back to same problem: If a channel has 80 sub-channels, you must keep
flipping thru all of those before you get to the next channel.
Basically it cannot skip the DTV channels nor create a favorites list.
4) Now regarding Off-The-Air (free TV) channel reception:
My comparison includes this TV, the Haier HLT10, an RCA set-top
box (from $40 rebate program) and a Samsung HDTV set-top box. All
these work the same way using VSB (ATSC) tuners.
You may notice many complaints on off-the-air reception. But it's usually
a matter of location and antenna used. In my case living in Dallas area,
all these tuners including the Viore picked up almost all channels listed
for my area, but only with a good antenna. The supplied antenna with this
model is useless as you may have heard.
To keep it short, choose an antenna shaped like this one, or just buy
this one if you need a portable antenna (vs. roof top or attic-mount):
PHILIPS PHDTV1 SILVER SENSOR HDTV ANTENNA (same as the former Zenith
model ZHDTV1). You will still need to reposition it for best reception,
but it outperforms most other indoor types.

This television looks okay cosmetically but even with a cable hookup the picture is blurred and definitely not clear. It's okay though. It only cost $110.00, no shipping charge, no tax, so you really can't complain.

Equipped with such features as front A/V inputs, automatic closed captioning (displays caption information onscreen when the mute button is depressed), and auto channel programming, the TV covers all the necessities while delivering a crystal-clear picture. Users can improve the video image through the color temperature correction, which adjusts from blue hues (cool) to red hues (warm) depending on the light sources in the room. The TV also offers up to 16 favorite channel presets, so viewers can surf their favorites exclusively.

Toshiba 40RV525U 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV Review

Toshiba 40RV525U 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Background
We decided a while ago that we wanted to upgrade all tube TV's in our household with decent wall mounted HDTV's. So we started of researching and initially bought the Samsung LNT series. This HDTV @ 1080P had a great price point for the specifications listed (contrast, resolution, available ports).
The second brand we bought was the Sharp, more specific the aquos series. Again, very similar to the Samsung although a bit more pricy and not necessarily as nice looking.
We then ordered a Marantz from the Philips outlet and boy was that a pice of junk. Cheap but it had sever ghosting and was impossible to use. That one moved to the family room.
Finally we needed the 4th TV and wanted it for the kids' XBOX 360 and PS3 experience in their gameroom. When checking over Thanksgiving we wanted to get another Samsung as that was the best one in our experience but no good deals were out there and most that had them were out of stock on the reasonable deals.
So we ran into the Toshiba 40RV525U as the cheapest 1080P 40" HDTV with (supposedly) a fast screen rate for gaming.
About the 40RV525U
First of all this is NOT a REGZA from Toshiba, which is more high end than this item. However, this TV does look good with its black piano laquered front bezel (although it is not as shiny as the Samsungs but less wobbly in its reflection, so it is equal in aesthetics).
It comes with 3 HDMI ports. Very important for the furture as the switch boxes are trouble in our experience.
What we noticed MOST during the reasearch into this item is that Toshiba is not very forthcoming with specs other than Gamer Mode being great for next gen console requirements, 1080P and the number of HDMI ports. Even downloading the manual for spec sheets gives you nothing on contrast or the milliseconds is requires.
We took the gamble since the item was hundreds cheaper than the next best thing and are VERY happy with it. The contrast ratio is not as good as a Samsung since you need to put the contrast and brightness up a bit but there is no ghosting or fuzziness when playing XBOX or PS3. We have noticed the same issue another reviewer had: the XBOX does not produce sound when connected via HDMI but this is a known XBOX 360 NXE issue and not a Toshiba one. The component cable connection is great and the screen looks wonderfully crisp.
Another few comments: the side buttons are very plasticky but luckily hidden. The remote is simple and effective (not a button laden brick) and most of the interface is VERY simple to navigate through. Make sure you switch the gamer mode on as it is of by default. It does make a visible difference.
Pros:
Great piece of technology at 1080P for a very low pricepoint
3 HDMI
Plenty of other connections
Gamer mode
Looks very sleek and expensive

Cons
Little heavy compared to Sharp and Samsung
Lack of information on contrast ratio and other key specs (but it is excellent in what it delivers so not really a ding)
Wallmount screws are placed relatively far aparts so if you want to adjust screen horizontally you will need to buy a wide mount. Samsung has the mount holes really close together, as a contrast.

Samsung LN-S1951W 19" flat-panel LCD TV Review

I bought this television from Amazon. Twice. Both times Amazon sent the wrong t.v. The reason is because this television does not exist. If you don't believe me, look on samsung's website. The LNS1951D and LNS1952D are not produced. The "D" at the end of the product ID stands for "Integrated ATSC Tuner." If you buy this t.v., you will not receive the "D" version. You will receive the "W" version. The "W" stands for "without Integrated ATSC Tuner." The ATSC Tuner is not included on Samsung Televisions until they are 26" or larger. I had to send both televisions back and eventually settled for a Sharp with ATSC Tuner. Clearly Amazon refuses to acknowledge this problem and continues to falsely advertise this item. Oh, and Amazon wasn't exactly apologetic either. After wasting a month of my time and hours on the telephone with customer service, they merely offered to refund my money. Thanks Amazon.

Sony BDP-BX37 Blu-Ray DVD Player & Streaming Internet Review

Sony BDP-BX37 Blu-Ray DVD Player and Streaming Internet
Average Reviews:

I haven't used this much for Blue Ray DVDs, but so far no problems.
But there are a couple of issues that really compromise this player:
1) It doesn't come with wireless communications built in and so far I haven't found a generic usb wireless dongle that works with it. So if you need wifi and have to buy Sony's add-on communications device, then you might as well just buy a higher end model that already has wifi.
2) all of the above makes this especially important: BD Remote on your iphone or ipod won't control the unit unless it's connected to wifi.
To do over, I would have bought a model with wifi built in.

Samsung HLP5674W 56-Inch HD-Ready DLP Projection TV Review

Samsung HLP5674W 56-Inch HD-Ready DLP Projection TV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am not a very knowledgeable electronic buff - but have been fantasizing about buying a HDTV for a couple of years now.
Since the choices are so many, it was a fun job trying to find out about them - at the same time very confusing. Finally, I did decide on Samsung DLP - the only question was which model I should be going for :-)
The HLP 56" is just about right for my family room -- has a very good viewing angle, has no real issue with room brightness. The quality of standard TV via Satellite depends on the different channels. (I use component cable for Satellite and DVI cable for DVD) Some channels appear better than others. HD programs are fantastic. The default color settings were a bit to greenish for my liking. The TV is lighter compared to my standard 29" TV. The PIP feature is cool. The TV was almost "plug-and-play" - didnt need too much tinkering to get the basic features working (for normal non-electronic buffs who wonder if a HDTV has to be always set-up and tuned by a professional).
I also bought a Samsung Progressive Scan HD 841 DVD player -- a good combo with this TV. (And the good thing is that this comes with the DVI cable in the package)
Some Cons I noticed:
# The remote lacks a backlight feature - since I like watching my DVDs by darkening the room - its frustrating to grope around the buttons.
# There seems to be some humming noice - like a fan rotating when the TV is on mute (or volume very low) - not too noticeable - but present all the same.
# The feature wherein you can change the source or the TV display size make you cycle though ALL the possible choices instead of poviding a "drop-down" ike UI to choose the one you are looking for directly - this becomes fustrating if you are the type who constantly change you TV display and source (between Satellite, Antenna, DVD etc.)
# Very little to no documentation on fine tuning the system available .. what exists is definelty enough to get a nice viewing experience - but if u want more fine grained control - dont bother reading the documentation to find out how.
But all-in-all its a great TV and I hope to enjoy it for a long time !!

Ready for big-screen thrills, astounding image quality, and a convenient setup? Then it's time for Samsung's high-definition-ready HL-P5674W DLP projection TV. The set's broad, 56-inch screen is configured in the widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio of today's HDTV broadcasts and most DVD movies. And, measuring just 50 inches across and 18 inches deep, the set's ultra-slim bezel and lightweight design enable it fit where other projection and big-screen sets won't.The secret to this DLP (Digital Light Processing) projection set's quality is its Emmy-winning technology from Texas Instruments. Samsung has combined its proprietary HD2 Plus light engine and advanced optic enhancements with a single, 0.8-inch digital micromirror device (DMD) capable of generating high-definition video images with film-like resolution, deep blacks, and robust colors. HD2 Plus leaves no possibility for convergence errors, so you'll enjoy crystal-clear images for the 5,000-hour life of the set's user-replaceable lamp. Samsung's Cinema Smooth light engine enhances brightness while ensuring an astonishing 2,000:1 contrast ratio.Texas Instruments' DMD panel is immune to the factors that can cause other displays to deteriorate with use, imparting a longer life expectancy than that of cathode ray tube (CRT) sets, plasma display panels, and liquid crystal display systems (LCD, LCoS, HTPS). A host of advanced digital interfaces and video inputs make non-issues of connectivity challenges and future proofing. The HL-P5674W's automatic digital-format conversion system converts any input (whether DTV, analog TV, or XGA computer sources at 1080i, 720p, 480p, or 480i) to a progressive, 16:9 widescreen image with a 1,280 x 720 pixel count. A 3D Y/C digital comb filter dramatically reduces image-edge artifacts while improving transition detail, and the set's HD ultra-fine-pitch (.155 mm) screen further clarifies images, especially when you're viewing high-resolution sources like DVD and HDTV.Samsung's Cinema Smooth Film Mode 3:2 pulldown correction circuitry addresses digital distortion in 480i (interlaced) video signals generated from 24 frames-per-second film. Finally, Samsung DNIe video enhancer (Digital Natural Image engine) works with all analog NTSC and wideband video signals for improvements in contrast, white level, and picture detail, incorporating digital noise reduction to improve lower-quality sources. The set offers digital-video inputs in 2 formats. A DVI-HDTV interface with HDCP copy protection permits all-digital rendering of video without the losses associated with an analog interface, and an HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) jack channels both digital audio and video to simplify connections with newer DTV set-top boxes and DVD players by reducing hookups to just a single cable and plug.Other inputs include dual HDTV component-video inputs (480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i) for high-definition satellite receivers, HDTV tuners, and HD cable boxes with component video outputs (Y, Pb, Pr); 3 each composite- and S-video inputs; and 2 RF coaxial inputs for antennas or older VCRs or cable boxes. An audio/video output permits hookup with an external device such as a surround-sound receiver.A 15-watts-per-channel (x2) audio system with a pair of 2-way speakers comes with built-in SRS TruSurround XT, which simulates compelling surround sound through any stereo playback system, including headphones and the TV's speakers.Last but far from least, onboard 2-tuner PIP with side-by-side split-screen viewing grants convenient simultaneous viewing of 2 TV programs, while a supplied universal remote control permits control of the TV, a DVD player, a VCR, and a tuner/surround receiver. What's in the Box TV, remote control, remote batteries, a user's manual, and warranty information.

Just got this monitor and it looks great. After calibration, I'd say it is comparable to the best LCDs I've seen. And it does in fact have a tilt adjustment. It is however a bit stiff at first and appears to be fixed in a vertical position. It's not.

Pros: Great high contrast screen, built in DVD player, built in speakers, side audio/video in ports, 3 HDMI ports, computer port. And finally, price.... oh.. and yes, it actually has a ATSC Tuner!!
Cons: Menus aren't too intuitive... sometimes tries to be too simple, other times it too difficult. Some settings are not remembered, you have to set them over and over and over and over... Unit came with an immediate flash upgrade (flash card included), wasn't expecting that. DVD is not Bluray or HD-DVD. No PIP... which is typical nowadays, just seems a shame to waste all of those inputs.
This is an excellent HDTV for the price. Having the built in DVD is a plus BUT it is not a HD DVD unit... just a normal DVD. This unit is going into my daughter's upstairs den. Highly recommended. I tested against LG, Samsung, Phillips and Westinghouse. The Toshiba picture was a good as the best from the others and had the additional features.

Now you can play your entertainment library on one versatile machine. Since the 32LV67 has both a DVD player and a 32-inch screen, you won't have to worry about connecting different electronic components in order to watch your favorite program. This convenience is matched only by its smart, stylish design.
The Value of LCD TVs Aside from their obvious aesthetic value, LCD TVs are much more practical in the home than CRT (tube-style) televisions. They take up a smaller footprint, and thus use up less floor space in the room. Also, LCD TVs are lighter and easier to move around when cleaning or redecorating. The 32LV67 is only 4.65 inches deep and weighs less than 37 pounds. Best of all, LCD screens use less power than CRTs and plasma screens.

Full-Featured DVD Player The 32LV67 includes an integrated, slot-loading DVD player. It has upconverting technology that improves the standard picture definition of regular DVDs to match the 1366 x 768 (720p HDTV) display resolution of the 32LV67.

Connections The set has a built-in digital television tuner, so out of the box it can receive digital broadcast ATSC signals and QAM signals used by most digital cable providers. It also has a built-in 181-channel NTSC tuner, so it can also accept traditional analog signals. It is also capable of these connections:
HDMI inputs: 3
ColorStream HD component video inputs: 2
PC monitor input: 1 (VGA 15 Pin D-Sub)
RF input: 1 rear
A/V inputs: 2 (rear and side)
Optical audio output: 1

Audio The SoundStrip speaker system hides the unit's speakers in a thin strip bordering the screen. They're powerful enough to deliver big stereo sound, but they don't add significantly to the size of the set.

Toshiba's StableSound feature maintains television volume within a preset range regardless of the source signal. This is an extremely useful feature when transitioning between a quiet television program and a very loud commercial advertisement or when changing channels.

SRS WOW, a combination of SRS 3D, TruBass, and Focus sound-expanding systems, create a 3-D sound field with improved bass response over standard TV audio and create directed, three-dimensional audio sweet spot for maximum enjoyment. The cabinet includes stereo speakers, but the TV also has optical digital output for connecting to your audio system.

Other Features Channel browser shows you thumb-nail images of the last five channels you've watched at the touch of a button. You can also see previews of your preset Favorite Channels along the bottom of the screen.
