This TV was made for me. As far as HDTVs go, this was extremely inexpensive, it's lightweight, and really thin. The picture looks incredible, but the view angle is not terribly good (it gets pretty dark if you're outside of probably 120 degrees or so. The HDMI inputs are great, and the TV's comb filter does such an incredible job with 1080i on my Xbox360, you can't even tell that the picture has been interlaced (though there is a lot of shaking when I hooked up my PC and ran it in 1080i). The VGA input does a great job, and doesn't over scan the way the DVI/HDMI port does. The speakers a great and LOUD, but make sure to get yourself a nice surround sound set, it's worth the money. Overall, you can buy a better TV, but I'll be confounded if you can find a better price/performance deal that this one.

Samsung PN50A550 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV Review

Samsung PN50A550 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is my second review for this panel! The first one was lost! (Frustrating it was!!!)
First off Amazon has kept their promise with their Post-Order Price Guarantee. Delivery was prompt and the white glove delivery people were like, "This is the best condition a tv box has ever came through their shipping company". They did like Amazon said...they'll bring it in, unpack it, set it up where you want it and take the box away! One of the many reasons why I shop from Amazon!Anyways, the plasma panel, PN50A550 is as good as I thought it was. Being a techie, I tested this thing to its full potential for a couple of weeks and I have to say that I am really impressed with the capabilities of this plasma! There are lots of great things about this plasma and I will address some questions that people have had with plasmas and this particular model...and from its predecessor, the 5084.
Color and black levels:
The factory settings are almost OK if you don't know how to calibrate plasmas of this caliber. But if you can calibrate it yourself or spend money to get a pro to do it then PLEASE do so! Each source has its own independent set of Dynamic/Standard/Movie settings... which is great because each source has a different video quality feed. You must remember to calibrate it via the room type you have. So for bright rooms I used Dynamic (remembering to turn off any dynamic contrast settings that will lessen the performance of this plasma). I used Dynamic for daytime because I can utilize the DNIe+ option. For dark/dim lighting, I calibrated it using the Movie setting. After spending a good time on 3 sources (DVD, CABLE HD and the Wii) the video feed is mesmerizing! I tested the settings with 300, The Incredibles and Die Hard, each movie for its different characteristics. Remember not to use any dynamic contrasting when you calibrate, no need for it....ask any pro! (btw...don't use any of the E-Mode settings)
Buzzing:
There was an issue with some 5084's having a loud buzzing sound. As of my unit, the A550 has no LOUD buzz. It has a normal, very minute buzz that you cant even here unless your ear is to the back panel.
Heat:
This model is a LOT cooler to touch than the 5084. I read it's because of the better placement of the inner "guts". I have touched the sides and the top. Of course the top is the hottest spot but this thing doesn't emit as much heat as the 5084. That's a plus! Less heat = less energy.
Burn In/ Image Retention / Ghost images:
I have TRIED to produce burn in images with the A550(remember that I have calibrated settings and not factory)...and it's really hard. The anti-burn in settings that come with this plasma works wonders and has options to if you did have burn in, you can get rid of it. But use your head, if your have dynamic settings on and your brightness level is 55+....you're probably are going to get burn-in. There are so many ways to avoid it.
Speakers:
I only heard the speakers when I first turned on the A550. The Samsung chime tuned its way letting me know its presence. After that, I turned them off and used my amplifier to produce the sound to outboard speakers. The only reason there are speakers on plasmas/ LCDs this size is because the consumer does not invest in a home theatre system right away. I always thought....BIG pictures need BIG sound. All in all, this is a wonderful plasma. I even think in some ways it is better than the highly praised Kuro. I am very impressed with what this plasma has to offer and I love the way it has that "WOW!" factor when people see it for the first time. I'd have to say SD channels aren't the best but they are ok for what they are. People ask me all the time why I chose plasma over LCD? Look at one side by side and tell me which one you want to invest your money into....plasma all the way. . Update:
I finally used the Wiselink! I connected both a Fujifilm Finepix F50fd 12MP Digital Camera with 3 x Optical Image Stabilization and a Sony Alpha A100 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only). It recognized both and I got to show off some pics from various shoots I did over the weekend! Never knew how great something looked at "poster" image sizes!!! The A550 is GREAT!
My friend brought over his new toy, the Apple MacBook Pro MB133LL/A 15.4" Laptop (2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 2 GB RAM, 200 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD SuperDrive), and we hooked it up! It was one thing to show off the new mac book pro....but on the 50incher...oh my god it was awesome! PLUS PLUS PLUS!!!!Update #2,
Since my last update and review, I have moved to a newer and bigger house. I'm not sure if it was for us or just to make room for this plasma panel!
The A550 is now mounted usingPeerless Universal Tilt Wall Mount for 37"- 60" Flat Panel Screen with one Touch Tilt. I waited and waited and waited to purchase a PS3 for it's Blu-Ray purposes. Playing games on it is a plus too, but I mainly got it to watch movies on. Why not just get a Blu-ray player? Functionality. The PS3 allows me to have a media center and it allows me to stream movies/pictures/music directly from my PC/Laptop via TVersity.
The A550 has withstood many nights of watching hdtv, 1080p movies(finally) and gaming. My wife can even operate the thing now without me worrying about her ghosting anything on the screen. And if there are any, the "side scrolling" feature eliminates it. I have also bought a Logitech Harmony 550 Universal Remote. The Wife got aggravated with all the remotes I had. Now with one programmed click, it turns on the A550, the receiver and the set-top box in one infrared sweep!
Did I mention yet that I still LOVE this thing?
Update #3,
I have meaning to update this again when the new 120hz LCDs hit the scene. Friends and Amazonians alike have asked me how do the newer LCDs compare to the A550/plasmas in general. Well, 120hz was introduced in LCDs to address the motion blur due to a slower refresh rate(hockey pucks, footballs, explosions, etc...don't look natural enough and sometimes pixelated). With that said, how do the newer 120hz compare to my A550? Even though the 120hz LCDs have improved, it still doesn't compare to this plasma. If you want the whole package, get the A550! Awesome color, black levels, no motion blur, contrast ratio is great. LCD's native contrast ratio is around 2000~15000:1 with a Dynamic 100,000:1...remembering dynamic is not what you want to go by when measuring contrast levels.
Another thing, I have updated the software to the PN50A550. It's really easy to do. You go to www.samsung.com, you find the PN50A550 and download the updates. Took me less than 5 mins to do!
I can not believe it will be a year on April 4th that I have had this panel. I enjoy it everyday...STILL!

This tv has one of the most amazing pictures I've ever seen - and being in the business I've seen alot, so much so I've decided to keep it in spite of the annoying glitch of rebooting it everytime I put a dvd in it!The input seems to crash every time I start my sony blu ray or regular dvd player.

First things first, I ordered this TV directly from Amazon and within a few days the price dropped and Amazon refunded the difference. Awesome! Amazon's White Glove delivery service delivered as promised and was OK to deal with; no issues at all. So for those of you wondering whether it is better to spend a few hundred bucks to order this set from a brick and mortar store; keep your money in your pocket and order from Amazon.
As for the TV, I am not a video expert type, but I do research big ticket items thoroughly before buying. This set and the previous generations received great reviews. However, I was torn between plasma and LCD. Being a big sports fan (lots of fast moving action on the screen) I had been leaning towards plasma. But the reviews of this set and the benefits of LCD over plasma (lighter, uses less energy, no risk of burn in and better for well lit rooms) made me make the plunge.
Overall, I am extremely satisfied. This is my first HDTV and I am using Directv HD service and the picture is outstanding. It is sharp, bright and overall beautiful. The only issue I have, which I was worried about with the LCDs, is that I do notice some pixelation when scenes move very fast (Thus 4 instead of 5 stars). However, it is not distracting but I do notice it.
The speakers are not as bad as some of the reviews would indicate. You just need to set the equalizer to the right settings. I have a home theatre set up so this is not a big issue, but to some it is so I thought I would comment on them.
The set looks great, is easy to set up and I am very, very, very happy with my purchase. Especially at this price. With my extra money I was able to buy a nice stand for the Samsung.
I hope this helps.

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The specs, price, and graphics quality in particular are excellent for this model.
But there are some serious disadvantages, exacerbated by Samsung's lack of support and unusually hostile response to those who are complaining about it.
The driver disk that comes with this product doesn't load in Windows 7 64-bit, which is now the standard for newer computers. You can find drivers that work, but not easily from the official Samsung site. There are actually two drivers, one for VGA and one for HDMI connections. In VGA mode, the monitor's native resolution of 1920x1080 is not supported; it deforms horizontally and clips off 3/4" on either side of the screen, thus converting squares into rectangles and circles into ovals, a fact that even level 2 Samsung support defiantly insists is OK.
In HDMI mode, they have written a fix (as of this writing) which allows a hardware option to 'fit screen' instead of the usual '16x9', which of course never should have been necessary, since the monitor itself is shaped as a 16x9 to naturally match the 16x9 standard. Also, the default mode for use in HDMI is AV, not PC, and if you don't override that, the type quality in particular is smeared and virtually unusable.
Worse yet, the front panel controls, which are both critical and extremely difficult to use, except in very bright light, can be overridden by software (convenient), but again ONLY if you are not using Windows 7 64-bit, a limitation you can find buried in their Web site.
Of the three reviews submitted to their site, it got one five star and two one-star reviews, and Samsung deleted the initial one-star and refused to publish mine. A company that makes a lot of fine products can get in serious trouble treating users as the enemy and failing to support those products. Be forewarned.

We've only had this TV for a day, and we don't have our High Definition Cable service yet, but the picture is still really good. My husband says it will be even better when we get HD channels (our new service is on the way).
The colors are great and I love the fact that there is no glare on the picture. We were going to get another TV with a few more features, but the picture had such a glare on it, we changed our minds.
I will say though for anyone buying this TV at this price - think twice - we honestly only paid $748 for this exact TV at Samsclub. We just got it today, August 25th, 2010, so I think this price on Amazon is horrible - more than twice what we paid.
The TV is very stylish and easy to set up too. If you decide on this one, and buy it somewhere cheaper, I think you'll love it.

This television is truly something to be admired. I'd say it's also a work of art.
I have a high definition cable box with an HDMI cable to the TV and the HD channels are superb. I mean, the picture is totally 100% crystal clear. I have windows behind me and somehow there is virtually no glare. Yes, the TV looks better when it is dark outside versus light outside but it's perfectly great when it is light outside.
I'm writing this review on my couch. My laptop is connected to the TV via a VGA cable with a wireless keyboard and mouse. Unfortunately my laptop does not have HDMI but I can see very well with the VGA cable. Needless to say, I am going to become much more lazy as a result of this TV.
The 40 inches is great for my viewing pleasure. I'm sure 46 is bigger but I am 100% content with 40 inches. It comes down to price. I did not want to pay more than $1,200 for a TV (that's $100 a month for 12 months using the Amazon Store Card). So this was a no-brainer for me.
If you are in the market for a TV, I highly suggest this one. It is truly a wonderful TV.
The "only" thing that isn't 100% perfect is the sound. The sound is good mind you, but it is not as perfect as the picture. But for the record, I have not played with the equalizer which people report helps the sound.
This is an amazing TV.
UPDATE 6/12/2008: This is still a remarkable television. I don't have any complaints about it at all. Even the sound is perfectly fine. However, you MUST either have a Blu Ray player or an Upconvert player with an HDMI cable to get the full benefit. Everything looks and sounds perfect on this TV.
UPDATE 7/13/2008: The TV is still perfect so just buy it already! I actually bought a 26" 3-series for my bedroom. I don't notice too much of a difference; I am happy with this "worse" TV as I am with my living room TV (this one). Samsung makes an excellent LCD television!
FINAL UPDATE 3/19/2009: Well I've had this TV about a year and I can honestly say it still is great. The sound is great, too. But... in retrospect, when it comes to TVs, bigger is better. A year ago this TV was $1,200 and I just paid it off this month. But if I could have gotten a 42" or a 46", then that would be better. Don't get me wrong, the 40" is great, but what's wrong with a few extra inches? Either way you can't go wrong with the LCD 5 Series from Samsung.

There was one selling point for this bracket...its price. There is a reason this bracket is half the price of other articulating mounts.
I didn't need anything fancy, just something to keep the TV on the wall while articulating. It does the job and I have complete confidence that the TV will not fall off, unless you adjust the pitch. Through a poor design, the brackets that hold the TV to the mounting plate increase or decrease in length with the pitch adjustment. If you adjust the keeper screws to keep the brackets on the mounting plate with the TV pitched all the way, when you then change the pitch to 90 degrees, the keeper screws will no longer be holding the bottom of the brackets to the plate. As long as you aren't moving things, it should be okay, because all the weight is carried from the top, but it's still a poor design. Also, there is nothing stopping the brackets from sliding off the side of the mounting plate.

We just got this little gem for our kitchen and it's just wonderful! The automatic Plug & Play setup found all the DTV, cable, and DTV air channels automatically. No need for a cable box with our Comcast cable service but you'll need a box if you want premium cable channels, on-demand, etc.
The LCD panel sits on a clear stalk which attaches to a nice oval base with a swivel-tabbed screw. No tools needed. It then fits into the hole in the base of the LCD and it can be tilted front to back. Since we use it in the kitchen, we have it tilted back. The swivel is stiff at first but it works well and tilts a few degrees off the vertical back and forward. When it's first attached, it appears to tilt forward so just firmly hold the base and push the monitor back.
The sound when set to Standard mode can seem a little tinny but it's better in Movie mode. The picture always needs to be adjusted at first since the standard settings are always too bright and too saturated. Reducing the contrast and the color setting helps produce a more natural picture. The tone is set to Warm2 but I find setting it to Normal works better. There are lots of ways to tweak the picture and the sound to achieve pleasing results.
NOTE: Amazon says this set has RED Touch of Color and that's WRONG. It's CHARCOAL.
This is a perfect LCD TV for small spaces and kitchens. We love it!

I already own 4 Sharp LCD TV's. This TV is to replace my bedroom 37" Sharp LCD that is about 6 years old (still works great, but will be putting it in my kids' playroom).
So, after looking around at all the different brands I decided once again to buy a Sharp, the LC-40LE810UN. Reading about all the nice features of this unit, including the introduction of the new color (yellow) technology is what did it for me.
After 1 week of using my new TV I am happy to report I made a great choice picking this unit. I explain the main points why:
* LED technology provides cleaner, brighter lighting. This is apparent as soon as you turn on the TV. As this unit is edge lit, not sure I see a difference between it, or a back lit LED unit. Need more time to evaluate this I guess.
*Adding yellow as a fourth color is definitely noticeable, and I like it. As most people know plasma TV's give you better color than LCD TV's. My Panasonic plasma TV is proof of this. However, I believe the LC-40LE810UN is a step up in LCD technology that brings it closer to plasma-like colors.
* Overall picture quality is excellent.
*The speakers are great, clear and loud. To me this is a major improvement for Sharp as their speakers are always horrible (like on the other Sharp units I have).
*The picture and sound adjustment options are plentiful and easy to use. This has always been the case with every Sharp TV I've owned. This one is slightly better/more user friendly.
*The unit is very well built and elegant looking, especially the glass base.

In closing, I am definitely recommending the LC-40LE810UN to all. You'll really like it!

I bought this TV online at [...] on Thanksgiving day for $799 on the early Black Friday sale. Forget the lines!
This TV has been great so far. Watched Wall-E in HD the other day, and was blown away! I matched this with the Samsung HT-Z310T 5.1-Channel Home Theater Surround Sound System (Set of Seven, Black) and the AnyNet feature is a real perk. Only needing one remote, and having the input source switch on its own when I put in a dvd or switch to TV is extremely convenient.
The only con I would mention is that when there are dark scenes, or letterboxing, I have noticed a bit of backlight bleed from the top corners. But I have a service call in to Samsung about that, and they are actually replacing my whole display panel (which will take care of the ONE dead pixel too). They are doing this in-home, so I won't even have to lug this down from my 3rd floor apartment.
Overall, this TV is outstanding, and the only reason to get the 530 or 550 is if you NEED 3 HDMI's instead of 2, or if you REALLY think you can tell a difference between 20,000:1 and 30,000:1 contrast. I tried, and I can't. Thanks for reading.

The dirty little secret when buying consumer electronics is to not buy them when they first come out, because there are bound to be bugs and defects among the first units manufactured. The manufacture is bound to discover these problems, make the necessary correction(s), and the subsequent lots should not have the same issues. This Vizio model is no exception.

I too have had the audio problem, where the audio distorts after a set amount of time. When I went to exchange it, I made sure the replacement was from a different lot than the first, that way I am bound to get a unit that shouldn't have the same problems as what I had before. My new unit works perfectly. For reference my first unit was made on 11/09 and my new unit was made 02/10.

Vizio has also made several firmware updates between the two sets I tried out. The first TV had version 2.06 and the second 2.13. I have no idea what improvements were made, but it could relate to the audio problem.

What I like about this TV is that since it has a glass panel, the image resembles what a HD CRT would produce. It really smooths out the picture and gives a better image quality that a matte finished LCD panel can't deliver. A typical LCD TV can produce a sharp picture, but at the same time it looks a little hazy to me. You certainly can't get a glossy panel for a TV of that size anywhere that I know of. If you like the look that a CRT TV or a plasma gives you will probably like this TV. I am also surprised that Vizio was able to deliver a LED TV at this price point.

I also really like the styling of this TV. It has the appearance of a high-end TV, something like what Bang & Olafson would produce. An the fancy touch panel controls are a nice touch. I would like to purchase a 27" or 32" of this same style of set, but unfortunately Vizio only makes this style in in 19" & 23".

The sound, if you get a properly working unit, is quite good. It looks to me Vizio put a smaller version of their HD sound bar into this set, because the SRS Surround technology really expands the sound coming from the TV. I didn't find the sound to be "tinny" at all. As others had reported the sound quickly goes from silent to loud.

The remote control only has one IR emitter on it, so if you are fairly close to the TV you need to point it toward the IR receiver to work properly. If you stand back a few feet, then you should have less problems. You best bet is to use a universal remote control (like the one provided by your satellite of cable provider), because many of them have at least 2 IR emitters giving you a wider range for transmission.

This TV also features a light sensor that can automatically adjust the picture in relation to the light in the room. Be aware you can't use this feature at the same time as the 20,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio feature. For me the dynamic contrast ratio feature works better for me.

For some reason Vizio doesn't advertise the fact that you have the ability to pause live TV (like a DVR), if you plug in a flash drive on the back of the TV. This TV also can play a play a slide-show of pictures on a flash drive.

For those that already own this TV and are unhappy with it, I would encourage you to exchange it at the store of purchase or have Vizio replace it. No one should have to live with the defect(s) if Vizio corrected it in later runs.
**UPDATE: I have seen that several other retail outlets are no longer carry this product, it appears it is being replaced by a more conventional design, that lacks the glossy screen. If you are interested in this product, be sure to get it as soon as soon as possible.
**UPDATE 2: Vizio as released a firmware update for this product (version 2.23), if you are having problems with this prodcut, be sure to download it. It may correct your issue.

HP 2010i 20-Inch Diagonal HD Ready LCD Monitor - Black Review

HP 2010i 20-Inch Diagonal HD Ready LCD Monitor - Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Pros:
Great Design, beautiful look
Cristal Clear Text and Image
Great Color richness
Great color accuracy
no eye strain
tilt adjusting
matte finish(I prefer matte to glossy)
Energy Star qualified (25W maximum)
100mm x 100mm screw-mount
Cons:
No height adjustment.
no HDMI
sub per speaker
Not very good vertical viewing angle
HP Ads is too sticky
Resolution:
For this size monitor, I think 1600*900 is the ideal size otherwise the text size (1920*1080) will appear too small.
Comparing to 2009m:
2009m is the 2009 model. it is not energy star efficient qualified. it is glossy finish. It does not have 100X100 mount. For 20$ more, I would go for 2010i.
Comparing to 2210m:
The 21.5' 2210m is 1920*1080 full HD with HDMI input and is gloss screen. First of all, 2210m is a great monitor if you like gloss screen and are used to relatively small character size. However, if I have extra cash and if I like glossy screen, I would go for a larger screen such as 2310m or 2509m since the character size is simply too small for me on 2210m than that on 2010i.
Comparing to ViewSonic's VX2250WM-LED 22-Inch
I was also able to compare it to ViewSonic VX2250WM-LED. First of all, I don't think led tech will add better display experience to a monitor but make it a lower power consumption and a lighter body. Considering the color richness and color accuracy, I would like to vote for 2010i because the color on VX2250WM-LED appears to me wash-out and a little weak. The built quality of 2010i is also better. But if you want a lighter display with a higher resolution at a reasonable price, you may want to go with VX2250WM-LED.
Comparing to Samsung 2333SW
I also own Samsung 2333SW. Even if it is full HD, the color is so weak comparing to HP 2010i. The most important thing is that I always feel eye strain on the Samsung 2333SW. I just feel so comfortable working on the HP monitor.
update (11/02/2010): Comparing to HP S2031
I made a dual setup using HP 2010i and HP S2031. I got the HP S2031 from HP for a huge discount. The HP 2010i has an overall better build quality than that of HP S2031. The display experience on two monitors are quite similar except that the text character on HP S2031 has a barely noticeable greenish cast. For under $100, I would go for HP S2031.
Character size:
The character size appears larger on this monitor than that on Samsung 2333Sw 23"(1920*1080) monitor and that on 2210m. You may like this if your eyesight is not as good as before. For 21.5" and 23" monitor, I have to adjust the text size to medium (125%) to feel all right. But on this, default 100% text size appears just perfect for me.
If you are looking for a budget monitor best used for online browsing, text editing, movie playing, and photo editing, this would be a great buy. Large screen or higher resolution is not always a better choice and it really depends on your needs. If I really want to get a full 1080P experience, I would watch the movie on my Samsung 46" HDTV. After comparing different brands and models, when I sit in front of my desk working on something, this is the most comfortable screen that I ever had. I just feel the crystal clarity at every second...
Buyer attention: removing sticker from top bezel of 2010i can be a pain since the glue residue is very strong as the other reviewers pointed out. I also observed that other HP 20** series monitors received many negative reviews only because of this. HP should take serious consideration on this. Here is a tip : "Removal of advertising sticker from top bezel of HP monitors at HP Support Forum": Check out comments section below.
About HP consumer monitor 2*** model:
Have been doing research on hp monitor for a while. I went to Costco to check also. Personally, I prefer the 'i' version to the 'm' version since I don't like the glossy finish. Even with the anti-glare coating, I still see things or myself clear on the screen. I feel eye strain too (the most important thing). I wish they had a bigger screen model. Unfortunately, they don't have the corresponding 2310i, 2510i, 2710i in US(only available in UK). They do have the 2310m, 2509m,2710m in US, but they are glossy finish. the only downside with the i version is there is no hdmi input.
Example
2509m
25 means 25"
09 means 2009 model
m indicates glossy finish

I would be extremely careful buying a large screen TV from Amazon.com. They have a no return policy on TV's larger than 27" that I was not made aware of upon purchase of the product. I received the television and realized after I had signed for delivery that there was some cosmetic damage to the TV's cabinet. I contacted Amazon.com the next day (which you can not do by phone; only e-mail) and was then alerted to this policy. They refused to provide me with a replacement TV.
The customer service was less than impressive and I would recommend buying this product from Circuit City or some other company that will guarantee the product and provide reasonable customer service. If you insist on purchasing from Amazon.com, I recommend you inspect the set thoroughly before signing for delivery. This is important b/c it is your only chance to refuse the product and Amazon.com will not make you aware of this.
All that said, it is a great HDTV monitor for the price point. It is a good anchor to a starter home theater setup. It displays progressive scan and HDTV signals very well. One thing to consider is that the set does not allow you to scale the aspect ratio for any of the HDTV inputs as many Sony sets do. This means that a full screen DVD will be stretched by the TV.
I would recommend this set for anyone looking to enter the world of HDTV at the sub $1000 price point. However, I would strongly urge you to consider buying from a electronics only dealer such as Best Buy, Circuit City, or Tweeter as Amazon.com can not match their level of customer service in this arena.

Big pictures no longer have to rest on big footprints, a fact exemplified by the 30-inch DynaFlat HD TXN3075. And the television is not only space-efficient, but well made: Samsung's proprietary DynaFlat technology provides a perfectly flat viewing image that has none of the curvature, image distortion, or glare associated with traditional screens.
Pro Chip NTSC-to-progressive-scan conversion improves typical (interlaced) TV viewing by combining odd and even scan lines, presenting flicker-free images, much like those found on today's better computer monitors. The picture becomes crisp from edge-to-edge, due in part to a 3D Y/C comb filter and velocity-scan modulation circuitry, which also maintains corner focus. If you want to watch Hollywood films at home on DVD, 3:2 pulldown is indispensable. The difference between film and video frame speeds causes slight blurring, stuttering, and other motion artifacts, especially during fast-action sequences. 3:2 pulldown corrects these anomalies so you can experience a smooth picture much closer to that of the original film.
In Samsung's DynaFlat HDTVs, the overall resolution is higher than earlier-generation sets because the individual phosphor color spots (pixels) are smaller and closer together. Its multiple-focus electron gun is capable of illuminating finer spots to achieve a much more detailed picture.
A DVD presented in progressive scan and/or HDTV content can be connected through either of two sets of auto-sensing wideband component-video inputs, and three rear-panel audio/video inputs (one with S-video) and a set of side AV inputs are also available. A pair of two-way, side-firing speakers with 15 watts per channel rounds out the set.

AOC L24H898 24-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV Review

AOC L24H898 24-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Pros:
- Price
- Picture quality
- Includes clear QAM tuner
- Can hide unwatched channels
- Gets program guides for the DIGITAL (not analog) channels
- Includes 1 of each key input type including good old composite & PC
- Remote has favorites, digital program info, channel guide, sleep timer,+ - lots of extras for a small tv remote
- Beautiful
Cons:
- Picture gets substantially darker when viewed from even slightly below tv level (see below)
- Stand does not pivot or tilt down, only tilts up
- All screen menus are tiny- illegible text from over ~5' away @ 1080 res.
- Poor remote design for use in dark bedroom (see below)
- QAM tuner a little slow (see below)
- No designated audio out to send tv audio to surround receiver, just a headset out
- Two composite, component and hdmi inputs would've been better- I needed to add a passive switch for two old composite only components, but at least these are easy and cheap to add.
- No hide/show channel shortcut button on remote (minor quip)
Bottom Line Summary:
This tv is the best price and value in the 22-26" size range in 1080p, and its a better size than 22". Highly recommended- you can't go wrong unless you watch tv from the floor (see below). I haven't attached it to a PC. I have a vcr, gamecube and dvd home theatre attached, and it's in my bedroom. I get cable and have NO cable box attached, and it gets all the analog and CLEAR qam HD and unscrambled digital channels flawlessly. I replaced a 20" analog crt tv with this- yipee!
Picture:
Chrystal clear and vibrant but picture does get substantially darker when viewed from even slightly below tv level- not good for bed to wall mount or higher dresser situation or floor watching. I had to set the brightness too light for same-level viewing so it looks good from the bed. (My Samsung is not like this at all). It tilts up but NOT down so can't resolve that way.
The QAM tuner loads the digital channels very slow the first time you tune them in after turning on the tv, then it caches them so they load fast the rest of that watching session. Next time you turn the tv on, it has to re-tune and re-cache so you need a little patience with that.
Tips- watch non-hd channels in 4:3 and then they are pretty crisp too. I wish you could set a default picture size for HD (full) and for non-hd (4:3) so you don't have to keep switching picture size setting on the remote. (Cable boxes have this feature but I believe most tvs unfortunatly don't)
I set the sharpness high, all other picture defaults are pretty good. Amazing picture!
Audio:
Default out of the box is with the surround sound off. I prefer this setting. I just configured the custom audio setting to be very high in bass and I think slightly higher than centre in treble. Some of the pre-defined audio settings are pretty good too, like music and movie.
If you switch to surround sound, be sure to turn the volume down to 1 dot before, because the surrond volume is tons of db higher! The surround adds too much echo (in my opinion) and although it provides a more separated stereo affect, ultimately is way too tinny even with the bass all the way up.
I was shocked to find no designated audio out on this. If you want to send the tv audio to an amp. your stuck using the headset out to do so; wierd. Fortunately that's on the back panel too and not the front. So I got a 3.5mm male to stereo RCA male cable at monoprice for a few bucks and am all set up.
Remote:
Nice extra features for a small tv remote but no illumination, and all the buttons are the same shape and clumped together with the number pad..ugh. I had to memorize the pad and now count and feel the key placements to find a button- ridiculous really, but I've managed to get it, mostly.
Menu Navigation:
They don't teach you how to do this in the manual so here goes- after you click menu button, it goes by default to the picture settings. To change to say, audio settings, use the left and right arrows to select a diffent menu from the turntable. Then use the up and down arrows to select a list item within the menu, then use enter and right/left again on the list items.
To get out of the menu you must back out of the menu levels by repeatedly pushing the menu button.
There is a timout setting for all menus in the options. After I figured out how to close the menu, I set that pretty long so it wouldn't close any menu on me too soon automatically.
Attached VCR:
I found my vcr picture is far better when viewed through ch3 rather than changing the tv's input to aux. It's also easier that way. Just turn on the vcr and change the tv to ch3. Turn the vcr off and the tv channels all just come back.

While I love gadgets, I'm not into spending tons of money on televisions. I frankly don't watch TV as much as I did in my teens and as long as I can see everything without snow, I figured I didn't need anything too fancy. I was content with the 32" Sony CRT I had for the past 8 years until it went off to be with the Lord.
I went to some local super centers to look at their offerings - it's nice to have lots of TVs in a certain price range, all playing the same loop, side by side so you can compare color depth along the entire gamut as well as refresh rates, intensity, glare, etc.
I had heard that HDTV was the next wave of the future and since I expect a TV to last at least 10 years (or until it gives up the ghost), I didn't want to be left in the technological dust, regretting my purchase, so I compared prices and quality, and this Samsung SlimFit was the hands-down winner - NO CONTEST.
The clarity in HD is stellar and in regular, non DTV mode, it's no slouch, either... but if you're used to a regular analog (non digital) TV, you will notice lower quality on analog channels. Why is this? A typical analog CRT set has about 300 lines of phosphors top to bottom. The HDTV has 1080 lines - so it has to take the 300 lackluster analog lines and basically triple the info - so it looks ok, but underwhelming if you are switching from a nice, expensive analog TV.
I asked tons of questions at the big box retailer to make sure that if and when I got this home, I wouldn't be coming back with an AK-47 if my reception did not match what they had in the store.
I live in a town of about 90,000 people and while we have digital cable, we do not have HDTV available via cable. The big box retailer is stuck in the same town, and they assured me they were not getting a satellite feed.
When the delivery men came with my TV and set it up, I was underwhelmed. The reception was worse than on the dead TV when it was still living. I went back to the store and talked to the salesman, who filled me in on some great information.
With HDTV over the air, if you get as much as 51% of the signal, you get the whole thing... so I got some RCA HDTV-ready rabbit ears and voila - I get local HDTV streams for free over the airwaves from Dallas and it is so stunning, I've caught myself frozen on the carpet, standing and staring at vacuum commercials. The depth, the clarity - mind blowing.
I have an old DVD player - about 7 years old, and it does not have progressive scan, but a fairly new DVD, "The Bourne Identity," looks freakin' awesome on this TV, even w/o the progressive scan. The better option from progressive scan is the up-conversion which gives even more of a clarity booster.
The TV has it's own equivalent of an A/B/C/D/E switch via remote, so when you want to switch from Playstation to DVD to TV to PVR, you don't have to keep hopping out of your seat and flipping a switch. Three cheers for couch potatoes!
My less than stellar review is for the following reasons:
1.) The directions are incomplete. I have a PVR/DVR and while I had everything flawlessly hooked up with my previous TV myself, even the "specialists" that set up my TV didn't know what to do. I had a committee meeting of sorts with the guys at the big box retailer until after about 30 minutes, one of them came up with the solution that was not provided in the manual.
2.) If you've pointed your antenna toward the transmitter in your town for DTV signals, sometimes you'll get all but one of them and one will fade in at out - but will have brain freeze while you try to change channels while it tries to decide if it's getting a signal or not. It is MADDENING!
3.) You can add/delete channels, but not the HD sub channels (ie, 4-1, 5-1, 5-2, etc.) so if it doesn't get it by auto scan, you have to keep fiddling with the antenna and pray and auto search the entire spectrum over and over again. This drove me freakin' crazy and everyone at Samsung should have their fannies smacked for this.
4.) The warranty sucks unless you get an extended warranty, which I did. It's covered for a year, but the set weighs over 200lbs and you have to pay to ship it to Samsung w/ the 1 yr warranty! Then, they decide if it's covered or not. Even if it's covered by the warranty, you still have to pay to ship it back. It's crazy! I paid the big box retailer a couple of Benjamins for a 4 year warranty that not only quadruples the warranty, but also means that if it croaks, the big box retailer comes to my house and hauls it off at no charge and they take care of everything through Samsung for me. If I never need the warranty, my daily cost of ownership over 4 years is pennies a day - but if I ever do need to make use of the warranty, it's worth its weight in freakin' gold.
The friends and family that have come over to visit have had their jaws drop on the clarity of this TV and are all coveting one themselves. I looked at HDTVs for 3 months before settling on this one and despite the shortcomings cited above, this is the best one you can get for the price. The next step up is going to get you in the big-time 4-5 digit range to get a DLP - which in comparison, makes my own awesome set look like doggy doo... which is hard to fathom being possible until you see a Samsung DLP in person - it's enough to induce convulsive sobbing from the sheer emotional joy your eyes experience... but until I hit the Lotto, this 30" SlimFit is going to do the job quite nicely.
