(More customer reviews)After the Samsung 22" in my bedroom died a premature death, I decided to give LG a try since I'd heard great things about their products in general. The picture quality does not disappoint and is superb. It is far better than the Samsung it replaced, better than my Samsung 40" 1080p and nearly as good as my 1080p 46" Toshiba. Sound quality as with any flat panel TV I've owned isn't very good. Don't expect any bass response when watching anything with a good soundtrack. There are several adjustments for sound, none of which offer much improvement.
The main menu has a myriad of options for adjusting the picture. You can choose from several pre-set modes or go into what they call the "expert" settings and fine tune to your exact preference using on-screen pictures and samples as your guide. When complete, you can save to either expert 1 or expert 2 so you can easily select your preference at any given time. There is also a menu selection for 3 energy saving or "eco" modes which seem to achieve results by darkening the picture. When performing the intial setup I used the auto program allowing the tv to scan for and lock in any channels I receive on my cable (no cable box) connection. All seemed well initially but when surfing through channels I noted on several occasions the tv would suddenly jump back to channel 2 and I would have to either surf again from that point or manually enter a higher channel number than what I'd been at. Eventually I figured out that it had entered into its memory channels 2-13 as TV and then 2-98 as CATV. Once I figured that out I went back into the menu and had to delete the TV channels 2-13 manually. Now I can surf channels without repeating. I have no idea why it duplicated channels 2-13 as none of those are available in this area without cable or satellite.
I really have no issues with the main menu, it's what LG calls the Quick menu that is absurdly redundant and which a person must access to use the sleep timer (more on that in my next paragraph). To use the quick menu, you navigate around a circle. The quick menu has several items which make no sense since they can be accessed through buttons on the remote as well as through the main menu. Some Quick Menu items actually require more button pushes to access them than they do if you use the main menu.
The remote is by far the worst I've ever had. This is a small tv I use in my bedroom and is the first tv I've owned in the last 15 or 20 years that did not have a sleep timer button on the remote. If this is your primary tv, that isn't a bad omission, but for a small set like this which is often used in a bedroom, the omission is annoying. To access the sleep timer you must either go through the main menu or to the quick menu both of which require about 8 button presses to access it. That in itself wouldn't be quite so bad if it were not for the rubberized multi-directional pad which also includes the enter button in the middle. The pad must be used to move through both the main and quick menus. It requires a great deal of force to use, a simple press on the arrows or the enter button won't work. After pressing hard enough to get it to work about half the time the menu item selector will go past the item you are trying to access or change. All other remote buttons work easily. Perhaps I got a defective remote, I don't know. To solve the problem I've ordered a programmable remote which is also illuminated, the LG remote is not. Perhaps with a better remote I'd be able to better enjoy the excellent picture.

(More customer reviews)Being the first to review the 2009 Samsung LN40B630 on Amazon was purely an accident in that I actually bought the new Sony KDL-40V5100 on April 2nd. At that time, the Samsung B650 had just come out, but its high gloss panel would not have performed well in my brightly lit room. My high definition projection TV had kicked the bucket after 8-years, but I rarely enjoyed watching HD because the daylight glare would wash out the picture. The Sony's non-glare screen performed well except when the picture would black out during dark movie scenes. I discovered that many of the V5100 series have had this glitch and Sony had no fix for it at that time. To Best Buy's credit, they cheerfully exchanged the Sony under their 30-day return policy and delivered the Samsung B630 model which has a non-glare screen and is similar to the popular B650.
My expectations of the new Samsung were that it would perform much like the Sony. I could not have been more wrong. The B630 was like viewing another huge leap in a television experience, while the Sony seemed to be of past technology. The depth and breadth of Samsung's visual color tones are astounding and mesmerizing. A perfect example of that came from viewing scenes of the Caribbean Sea. The Sony could not match the Samsung's Wide Color Enhancer 3 processor with its three dimensional qualities and vibrant tones of turquoise, sea green, cobalt blue, coral pink and white sand clearly seen under the sea. It literally was like being there.
The Samsung's dynamic contrast of 80,000-1 was visibly superior to the Sony's 50,000-1 and convinced me that Samsung's contrast rating was more than a marketing numbers game. The viewing angle of the Sony was horrific when moving away from center by seeing flesh tones morph into green. Samsung's viewing angle was far better by maintaining the proper color tones, but it did lose contrast and brightness. Of course, a slight turn of its swivel base helped to alleviate Samsung's viewing angle issue.
The downside to Samsung's advanced technology was that every movie appeared as video and lost its magical cinema quality. Sony was superior in dealing with this issue. To address that problem, the backlight and contrast settings have to be toned down to soften the picture and to preserve a film's attributes. Most importantly, an adjustment to the 120 Hz Motion Plus feature must be done in order to keep movies from appearing surreal. While some recommend turning the 120 Hz off, I found video blurring far too annoying and placed the Auto Motion Plus to a custom setting of 6 for blur and judder reduction. That seemed like a good compromise without losing much of the film's realistic movement. Experiment with every adjustment to find your best settings and calibration instructions are easily found on [...]. It all came together beautifully for me and hopefully this information can be helpful to you.
One bad design feature was the power and channel functions on the TV itself. You cannot see where they are unless you have light shining directly on them. As long as you use only the remote control, it may be a non-issue. By-the-way, in case you were wondering how effective the non-glare screen was on the Samsung B630; it was perfect. I experienced crystal clear high definition TV -- Day or Night.

(More customer reviews)I own the 26" version of this TV (I also own a 47" Vizio) and I needed a small TV to use for a convention display table. The reason I purchased this one is that it is unique in that it has forward facing speakers. Most small TV's have downward facing speakers and in a large room they are much harder to hear. This TV is perfect, small, loud volume and has a great picture. I also like how Vizio packs their small TV's because they are easy to re-pack and the box can be used many times. The base plate also comes off easy.
Highly recommend.

(More customer reviews)technology innovations are going to cost more at the leading edge ... i have seven children at home, several grand children and grand parents who have all come over and watched the 3d movie (only one so far) ... we even watch some regular blue-ray movies in the simulated 3d mode, which is not as great, but it does add depth ... and no one has damaged the glasses, from age 2 (with parental supervision) to age 78 ... with lots of young hands turning the glasses on and off ... we have four of them, kid tested for over four months and all working and intact ... yes, they are not indestructable, they could be easily broken with carelessness, but you would think if something cost a hundred dollars, you would take care of them and not leave them to be sat on ... and for those who care, not one of us have had headaches or anything else after several hours at a time and over fifty hours over the four months ... and 3d is great ... the whole picture just has so much more realism (if one can have that in an animation film) ... just the individual hairs on the moth ... the many times you just put your hand out there cause you believe you can almost touch the picture ... just fabulous ... maybe not for everyone, but out of the sixty or so people who have watched at our house, not one of them was not impressed and everyone wants to know when we are getting our next 3d movie (more than likey meatballs this month) ... there has always been those who put technology down or believe everything should be indestructable and a cheap price ... well, the car, television, computer and many other advances have overcome those that are negative, (of course some advances have failed miserably) ... but my advice is to judge for yourself, i know a couple of box and department stores that have the tv and glasses for demonstrations ... take the time and see for yourself ...

I hooked it up in a matter of minutes (I also have 3d ready Blu-Ray player) and turned it on. The kit comes with a dvd that previews upcoming 3d Blu-Ray releases and I have to tell you, it is pretty amazing. The 3d is really fantastic and I can not believe that I am able to have this in my living room!! I LOVE IT!!!! When we turned it on...all we could say was "Wow" over and over again. I have one blu-ray 3d dvd movie - Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs - I plan on watching it tonight with my kids. (More customer reviews)I bought a 50" Plasma and decided it would be best on my wall. I went looking through stores and found higher prices than this one and bulkier designs.
I love the articulating arms!! I can pull it away from the wall to access the wires, etc. and adjust the left to right tilt for best viewing. It seems very sturdy and has worked great for me the last six months.
It was easy enough to mount to the wall but if you are not good with tools seek experienced assistance. You will need someone to hold it up for you unless you are good at this sort of thing. The hardest part was hanging the TV and that was only due to the weight of it.Note: Make sure you have wall studs with 16" centers if mounting to drywall!! I bought it not realizing I had 24" centers on that one wall. This caused me to mount it to a steel plate so it could get anchored to the studs (The 50" TV weighed 125lbs!!)

This is a very substantial mount with Dual arms and heavy guage steel. The arms extend over 20-Inch from the wall yet fold to less than 5-Inch. Even at full extension, this mount has very little sag or twist. It is rated for up to 165lbs and most displays 55-Inch and smaller weigh under 100lbs. The unit has dual tilt adjustment knobs and it will tilt forward or back 15 degrees. The wall plate is 19-Inch wide and has wide slots making it easy to mount into standard 16-Inch studs even if they are not exactly 16-Inch apart. Thus, the arms may be visible on the sides of 32-Inch units. The universal design will fit any display with a hole pattern up to 26.3-Inch wide and 18-Inch tall. The wall plate is 1/8-Inch thick and very stable and includes a large center hole for cable pass-though into the wall. This mount will swivel approximately 150 degrees depending on the size of your display. Dual TV locking screws are included to prevent accidental liftoff of the display. Samsung HT-C5500 Blu-ray Home Theater System Review

(More customer reviews)The HT-C5500 is a solid all-in-one home theater package at a good price, but you need to know what it can--and can't--do before you decide to buy.
First, some pros and cons:
Pros:
*Low cost
*Compact
*Easy setup
*Integrates with Samsung AnyConnect+ TVs for one-step DVD playback
*Decent enough sound and sufficient volume for a family room
*Netflix and YouTube connectivity work well
*Completely integrated in one relatively small unit
*iPod/iPhone dock included
*Speakers look nice and are very small and unobtrusive
Cons:
*Very limited inputs (Audio only; there are no HDMI inputs--the description above is wrong)
*Flabby bass response (no surprise given the 8lb passive subwoofer)
*Completely integrated--if one part dies, your entire home theater system is offline
*Wireless Internet use requires optional ($70) proprietary Samsung LAN adapter
*Proprietary speaker connectors
*AnyConnect+ can be a little wonky: If you have a disc in the tray, DVD playback seems to override all the other functions such as Internet services or the AUX input.
Even given all the Cons, this system suits my needs very well. I already owned a Samsung TV. I didn't want a proliferation of remotes or components. And the odd shape of my living room meant that I wasn't going to get optimal surround sound in any case, so I wasn't willing to pay a fortune for a system.
I ran the HT-C5500's HDMI output to one input on my TV and connected my FIOS box's optical audio output and my Mac mini's analog audio output to the appropriate inputs on the HT-C5500. The HT-C5500's remote is nothing special, but it makes it quite easy (after a little practice and reading of the manual) to switch between setups. You still need, however, to manually switch between HDMI inputs on the TV depending on what source you want to watch.
Note, however, that I'm at the absolute limit of what this system can do. I couldn't add, for instance, a game console into the mix.
Still, I'm very happy with my purchase. Yes, the HT-C5500 hits a wall quickly, but if you intend to stop before that wall arrives, you won't be disappointed.
